So, it’s 2008. Who feels old?

Anyone make resolutions? I haven’t made any in years, but that’s probably because any resolutions I might make are the kinds of things that I resolve to do all the time. So there’s no novelty in making a super-duper-special “This time I REALLY mean it!” kind of pledge.

Or, you know, maybe it’s just sheer laziness. Cuz then I’d have to actually think up some. Heh.

So what else is up?

I was supposed to be nicer to people. I don't think I have been the last few days...

Has anyone seen Enchanted? I wanted to check it out for a bit of fun with a friend and apparently it's pretty good.

I actually forgot we were supposed to make resolutions. Eh well, mine would be to eat rice as little as possible.

Enchanted, well, perhaps I'm the only one who thought it sucked. Everyone's been raving about it, but I just didn't see it. It was sort of funny, but nothing really funny. It was really corny, the kind I didn't like.

Speaking of movies, tho, I saw PS I Love You, and it was actually good. Very good, in fact. Sure, it still couldn't top Korean way of doing romance, but I loved it.

in an earlier Open Thread there was some discussion of how to find the Korean film - THE LETTER - has anyone found a place to buy it? download it? watch it?
====================
ALSO - can you give us an update of the success or lack thereof - of WITH S2 having unauthorized hard subbed videos removed? I don't visit those sites because I don't want my "visit" to count as a "hit" and encourage them to keep up these videos.
================================
ALSO ALSO, when the film "THE MAN WHO WAS SUPERMAN" is released in Korea - how long do you think it will take it to make it's way either across the ocean or onto a DVD - The film looks to be quite good - even by U.S. standards -
=========================================
ALSO ALSO ALSO - regarding the recapping of episodes - there is the saying "necessity is the mother of all inventions" - i've found that on the series I've been watching - that because english subs are currently NOT in the forecast - amazing things are happening over on the SOOMPI threads - those who can translate bits and pieces, do it well - those who can recap - recap - and there's a very new member who's mother completely explains korean idioms - and it's been good - everyone has developed some team spirit (with the exception of the BAD LOVE thread - some serious name calling in that thread - and it has nothing to do with the show )
WITHS2 and Dramabeans - made it so easy - that now we're having to work a little harder for understanding - which i'm saying may NOT be such a bad thing at all.
===========================
ALSO, ALSO, ALSO, I picked up the import CD of Sam Brown - that includes the tune STOP - i enjoyed how they used that song in EVASIVE INVESTIGATIVE AGENCY ! It's actually a great CD considering it's from 1989 - so thank you Dramabeans for giving me the title and artist!
===========================================
sooooo, let me be the first to say
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY ! (why not! they've already got the stuff in the store!)

I haven't seen Enchanted, but I love Amy Adams. She was amazing in Junebug -- the movie was just all right, but she was marvelous.

Someone posted the CB link to "The Letter" in the thread, and I managed to download it from there. Haven't seen any subs though.

I can't speak to when With S2 will lift its temporary sub embargo... It definitely won't be forever, but since the point was to get the subs off streaming sites, it's also contingent on how swiftly those sites comply, I think.

Man, I can't believe they're pushing VDay already! Well, I can, but it's ridiculous.

enchanted was too bubbly for me. once you've heard about all the funny bits from your younger sis, there's really little to look forward to. it's the type of movie i'd just watch once and be done with it.
i just watched atonement and i LOVE LOVE LOVED it. i tend to like depressing movies, according to my friends, but i think this is a more thoughtful melancholic movie. not emo. the scenes in atonement were so artistic and gorgeous. the script is actually faithful to the novel. and James McAvoy has the most beautiful baby blues. haha

next, i wanna see national treasure.

Me! I feel old! I'm turning 20 this year and I'm not a teenager anymore... It kind of changes my thinking a little bit... I enjoyed Enchanted but Stardust was my favourite movie in 2007... Enchanted was nice and all but I love the storyline in Stardust and Robert De Niro hopping around in a tutu? Priceless. Stardust is probably the only Neil Gaiman book I truly like...(out of the few that I've read...) But kudos to the director and screenplay writer who adapted it to a film so well... My new year's resolution would be to eat more healthily and to be more dilligent at my studies in uni... But junkfood is my life and I was born a slacker....*sigh* There goes my resolutions... :-P

My first post in your threads! :-)

Happy New Year Javabeans..
I didn't like to make any resolutions, and never plan to make one this year, but I did make few hopes that I can do as year goes by.

I feel OLD! Now that I'm getting nearer to my big 3-0 ( few years ahead, but still ), I think I haven't made any significant things in my life and it made me sad.

Anyway.

Pushing V-day? We're pushing Chinese New Year! It's more fun, because I can't wait.......if there is anyone who willing to give me red pocket! :P I want to enjoy accepting it while I still can! hehehe

canyayasis, i love your comment on new developments as result of the withs2 proclamation/declaration/warning. i quote, "we’re having to work a little harder for understanding - which i’m saying may NOT be such a bad thing at all." indeed, not a bad thing at all.

blake, james mcavoy may have "the most beautiful baby blues" but he's still mr. tumnus to me. i know, petty right? i saw "becoming jane" and although he's a good enough actor to let me forget at times, i would laugh at random scenes, remembering the frozen faun. i think "atonement" is too melancholy for me. i like my movies bubbly fun, lighthearted and preferably with a happily ever after.

VDay? already, we're decorating hearts in our classroom. we even made the kiddie handprints form a heart (the thumbs and forefinger). and no, not the cutesy kcelebrity kind, but an abstract oh-wait-i-see-it work of art.

Ah... I can't believe it's 2008! I graduate high school this year! All those years, throughout elementary, middle, and high school.. we've been told: You're going to graduate in 2008... and it felt so incredibly far away...
It feels so surreal that time's flown by so fast! It's also been a year since my kdrama/kpop addiction. And I'm as addicted as ever.

As for resolutions... they haven't changed since last year or the year before.. what does that tell you? XD I've found that New Year's Resolutions don't work for me... -_-

About Enchanted... I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I was VERY excited about it, but... it was disappointing. As others have said, it was FAR too bubbly and corny. Disney definitely overdid it this time.

Has anyone seen Sweeney Todd? I'm going to go watch it tomorrow... Is it good?

i'm feeling ancient... i'm 32 which probably makes me the oldest person in here... y'all sound young & perky... rocketfuel & merriweather are hilarious... i had the same new year's resolutions... i'm not a heavy drinker but i thought i shouldn't do stupid things where alcohol is concerned... i thought about trying to be nicer to people too but i don't know if it's working... another one would be to get out more since the last movie i saw in the theatres was transformers...

Oh gosh. Im one of those who feel older. Im a december magnae. hahhaha

Wow V-day alreeady? Depression anyone? Lol. kidding..
Its more of CHinese New year for me too.

Hmm.. Im excited for atonement and ps i love you. I love those kind of stuff. I loved the book ps i love you so much.

Enchanted was cutesy, romantic, a bit cheesy but overall feel good and nice. Mcdreamy was hot too. hahhaha
Or that just me?

Im sad, about non compliance of the hardsubbing and how people are taking it.
But Im glad as canyasis mentioned, so people recapping, summaries, trans bits and pieces. Im glad they help.
Bad love, thread chaos. People undermining the spoken languages of others. Yikes.

Talk about feeling old. I visited family last weekend which happened to be my aunt's 70th birthday. At the restaurant, I was looking for a seat and was headed towards a half empty table when I realized that that was where my aunts and uncles were sitting. Now, out of sheer reflex (and years of habit), I did a quick 180 'cuz who wants to sit with the ole folks speaking Korean? Then, out of habit again, I headed towards the kiddie table when I realized, "Wait a minute, I can't sit with my nieces and nephews (cousins' kids included). I'm an adult (and have been for a very long time)." So, finally my husband and I plopped down at the safe, adult second-generation table with some of my cousins. LOL!

On New Year's, we had the traditional bowing to the elders, and we had to shell out the dough to the kids. Geez, I kind of miss being on the receiving end of all that cash, especially since inflation has come a looooong way.

As for New Year's resolutions, I finally decided to do something about my injured wrist (from a CPR class) and knee (from nothing in particular). After years of thinking they'd eventually get better on their own (isn't that how it used to be?), I finally went to see a physical therapist. His prognosis was that there was no arthritis, and PT and exercise should resolve it. ARTHRITIS, are you kidding me? I'm not THAT old yet. HAHA. So, I guess this means I've got to start exercising regularly. It's good for my health, right?

Blake, I saw Atonement and loved it. It's definitely more melancholic rather than depressing. It's not the oh-I-love-me-my-romances romance that Pride & Prejudice was, and I didn't read the book so I can't compare, but Joe Wright directed another fantastic work of art. I loved the single-pan camera shot on the beach (how in the world do they do that?), the lighting, and the typewriting-incorporated music score. It was beautifully moving. Gail, if you want to get Mr. Tumnus out of your head, I recommend seeing James McAvoy in Rory O'Shea Was Here, Children of Dune, or MacBeth (a modern version I saw on BBC America - I don't know if its out of DVD yet). How was Becoming Jane?

Well, Happy New Year everyone!

@nileey: New Year resolution #10 ... that's a lot of pressure! hehehe.
@hjk: So glad that someone did watch Atonement and loved it. Still need to make time to see that. Don't you just wish that James McAvoy is still in the midst of his growth spurt? hehehe (hope that i don't sound too mean)
@djes: SMILE. The twenties are the practice ground for the real accomplishments that will happen in your thirties. The third decade is full of unexpected and wonderful surprises. Trust me, i promise you.
New Year resolutions: Have more faith in people and believe again in second chances.

@tealeaf: haha, yeah James McAvoy is on the short side, but he makes up for it in so many other ways...and he likes older women (he's married to Anne-Marie Duff). hehe...

@nileey: take your time, don't rush. The right one will come along eventually. Enjoy the single life!

I just tried, unsuccessfully, to dl The Letter. Is it anywhere else?
There were some pretty bad reviews for P.S. I Love You.
Even though lovely Gerry is in it (I prefer his Scottish rogue), I think I'll wait to watch the original first. I don't want to make the same mistake I made with The Lakehouse.

Everyone has their own taste in movies, I guess. I spent New Year's Eve watching AVP 2 -
I know, blame it on the hubby. (And he mocks my beloved kdramas? Someone needs to get their head checked, and it sure ain't me.)

My 2008 resolutions:

1) I will clean my desk. The reason I did not send Christmas cards this year (and last year) is that I could not find my address book. I know it's on my desk... along with 7,203 other things.

2) I will not procrastinate. I will clean my desk today.

3) I will not make excuses. (such as: I can't clean my desk today because I have to bathe the dogs.)

4) I will not sweat the small stuff. What's a messy desk when oil prices just hit another high yesterday?

5) I will be happy. I love my desk, clutter and all!

There's a red vein popping out of my left eyeball from my constant computer use. Argh! And my wrist hurts due to RSI (also related to my constant computer use). This is so why I shouldn't be on holidays, I only spend it in front of the computer.

I need alife outside of this computer. I think my new year's resolution should have been to spend less time on the computer.

new year's resolution: try to reduce my addiction to dramas, internet and gadgets bit by bit.... that's my no.1 procrastination tool...
although i wouldn't go "i really meant it!" but will give it a go.... i mean "at least I tried..."

national treasure was a quite funny but a bit expected. haven't had the chance to watch enchanted, i went for golden compass instead - felt that it was a waste of 2 hours since it ended so abruptly like a series show instead of a movie. if it wasn't for nicole kidman, i wouldn't have chose that movie.

what else is up? i watched May 18 on my onboard my flight, left a deep impact on me.. by the way, how far is it true regarding the Gwangju Massacre ??

hey thunderbolt! .. hows the desk going?

nileey, most of your resolutions could be mine... but definitely not the getting married part. :D are you engaged? #10 would make sense if you are.

hjk, becoming jane was alright. i didn't rave about it. james mcavoy is a pretty good in it. anne hathaway's acting goes up and down, but i like her all the same. although i am an austen fan, it didn't have quite the ending i wanted.

Hmmm! I try to make a New Year's resolution every year. It's always good to try to improve yourself. I love reading self help books.
I have a recycled resolution from last year...learn Korean. lol. Dang! It's a really difficult language to learn in terms of sentence structure...subject-object-verb. I have a hard enough time remembering never to end my sentences with a preposition while speaking/writing in English. But, It's been really fun trying to pick up words and phrases from the kdramas!
My resolution this year is to keep an unmade mind instead of a made up mind. I'm reading Don't Let Your Mind Stunt Your Growth (really recommend). The title speaks for itself. Let's see what I can acheive this year.

Enchanted was really cute, feel good movie. I liked how Disney poked fun at themselves and their fairytales. I'm a tad bit bias. I love all types of Disney movies/shows. I'm a parent of an 8yr old daughter, so we eat and sleep Disney...esp. HSM. I can admit that I have now karaoked to all the songs in HSM and HSM2. lol...oooh...the shame!

I haven't made any resolution for years. I know what I should do but the biggest question is whether I wanna do it or not. I know I need to work out coz I's putting on weight, with all the eating during Christmas and feasting will not stop till after Chinese New Year which falls on Feb 7 & 8.
I have watched Stardust and like it a lot. Just finished watching Game Plan - I like it too ... Planning to watch Enchanted, Golden Compass, Atonement and a couple others later in Jan.
I'm closing to 40s and I'm not worried so much about my age. I guess when one turns 30, one worried about what's going to happen to them especially those who is single. My advise is concentrate of being the right person than going out to look for the right person. I'm turning 40 in a couple of years and I must say that I have plenty of things to worry about but I'm not going to. Worrying is not going to add another day to my life so I'm just going to concentrate of being happy with my life ... which I am happy with my life. I thank God everyday for this life He gaved me.
Blessed New Year everyone. Javabeans thank you so much for keep me entertained and well informed throughout 2007. Though I have just came to know about you since the Coffee Prince days, I'm glad that I found your site. THANK YOU.

hjk, yes! the type-writer incorporated music was wonderfully whimsical and sometimes intense. another thing i loved about atonement was how the character of briony tallis remained consistent despite the use of three actresses. on yahoo!movies they have a short clip about the way the older actresses observed the younger "briony" to pick up her mannerisms. everything is so intentional.

gail, i agree its a tad strange to find the faun from narnia catapulted into hollywoods hottest leading man status. he's making out with all the starlets, for godssakes! before: anne hathaway, now: keira knightley, later: angelina jolie. i do hope that he'll shy away from the romantic roles for a little while.

katwoman, i love HSM and HSM2! my best friend is a HSM freak and hannah montana/jonas brothers lover. she's gone to more disney concerts than rock concerts. we're highschool seniors.

Actually this year has done nothing but made me feel older. My 18th birthday was yesterday. I don't know about anyone else, but that's a huge bucket of cold water to the face for me. It gives me the heebie jeebies.
Regarding New Years resolutions, my friend and I decided to just go by the motto, "be spontaneous" because it's nothing that will drag us down or make us feel like failures at the end of the year, rather just an excuse to go have fun. So far it's working.

Happy New Year 2008 Everyone!

This year I'm STILL going to watch as many K-dramas/movies as I can but not at the expense of my family! LOL Wish I can rubberband the elasticity of time, only 24 hours in a day and after work, so little waking time left! So family or dramas? Family or dramas? *Shame faced* many times....dramas won! AND I'm going to learn how to download dramas/movies FINALLY (last year's resolution also U la la) chingus have been superb in providing them to me and DVD/CD shopkeepers love me LOL. Currently there's still a deadlock with my tech idiot brain and my lazy bones.. at the rate I'm going it could be resolution for 2010...aiyo wish me luck!

Haha. Kiongna, good luck with the downloading. If my technically-challenged brain could finally figure it out (with a lot of help from soompi friends), than anyone can do it. Now, on to deciphering how to run the subs simultaneously...

Blake, thanks for the yahoo clip. I've always really liked Romola Garai and Vanessa Redgrave, but Saoirse Ronan gave an amazing performance as the young Briony. And she's only 13! I can't understand why they billed this movie in previews as an epic romance-lover's romance (well, actually I can), when it's really more about this young girl and how her mistake affected the lives of all three of these characters. I hope they win some Golden Globes.

Waaaahhhh, I missed your 2day blog.... had too many things back at my apartment. spring hasn't come yet but i needed my window screens installed which never got to because... blah blah blah blah... not a nice way to start your day.

My new year's resolution? I stopped making them since I got out of college. I dunno, guess its because I never get to do them really.

For now I guess I could say, I'll watch as many movies as I can, online of course, and tv series, thanks to you javabeans. You give good insight to what's worth the time and what's not.

So far, I haven't watched any dramas after Time bet... LJK has closed my 2007 and am still contemplating which way to go. I'm currently watching Romantic Princess (sorry, am a fan of WU ZHUN). Like always, I can't wait till he says 'I love you'. Like it was me he was to profess it with. Haaay.....

I think I should add to my wish list for this year - I want to watch more of the tv series that will make me laugh, fall in love and yes! finally I decided to sample out all those horror films I missed!!!! (that's it!!!) One scary movie a month? (.... too much!!!) Got any suggestion JB?
