It’s a baby boy for Kwon Sang-woo and Sohn Tae-young

Actress Sohn Tae-young gave birth to her and husband Kwon Sang-woo‘s firstborn child on February 6. The baby was born a bit ahead of schedule — the couple’s due date was the 28th — but for all of you who worried that Sohn was too thin, their son weighed in at a healthy 3kg (6.6 pounds).

The couple married in September after much fuss over their sudden courtship and quickie engagement announcement; a few months later, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child. The couple had left on an extended trip to Australia to get away from the media hysteria, much of which was harshly pointed at Sohn, who revealed afterward that she’d suffered from depression and stress.

Both mother and child are reportedly healthy and well.

Congrats for the baby boy! Hope she won't get postpartum depression. People who have suffered from depression are at higher risk for getting postpartum depression.

Yay!!! Congrats!

Though why she was criticized for having depression and stress I have no idea. Sure, it can't be good for the baby, but it's not like she has any control over it. And no doubt the vulturous media and critics are just adding to the stress.

Oh thank jesus, the baby is indeed healthy.
Now I'm totally envious. When I get pregnant, I know I won't look that good.

Funny, why did it automatically put the name winnie there? I was the third "winnie" in a row before I edit, lol

LOL .... bingo, a boy!
That's exactly my thought from the very 'tidy' way Sohn Tae Young was carrying in that last article.

Girl babies often result in overall more padded, rounded out bellies.

Congrats to the happy new parents! :)

I predict a divorce within a year or two. Two at the most. The lady sounds like a disaster, and thank God the child was born okay (as far as we know) becuase she certainly didn't eat. Pregnancy is never a good reason to marry especially with a courtship that was as fast as this one. Kwon Sang-woo, you screwed up, man.

Aren't we fortunate that we don't have to have courtship and marriage and bear a child in the ferocious eye of the papparazzi...
Aren't we lucky we don't have to read discourteous remarks with malice aforethought about our future lives.

Blessings to this family and health to the mother and child.

It is a myth that moms have to eat a lot to bear a healthy baby. Many are certainly afraid that the baby would be not healthy if the mother doesn't eat a lot.

Sohn proves that this indeed is a myth. I know another mom who's exactly as "thin" as Sohn before she delivered her baby (and that's a daughter). She was slim before her pragnancy. The daughter is, now a teen, also very healthy and smart.

Perhaps she threw up so much that she couldn't eat. Perhaps Sohn's mom was also like this when she carried Sohn in her womb. Perhaps she got a very calculated diet. Who knows? Did she need to tell you why she stayed thin?

I am disturbed to see malicious comments here. This is a happy occasion.

All the best to entering the new parenthood, Mr. and Mrs. Kwon - lots of sleepless nights ahead, but I am certain you both can pull them through together in one accord. Congrats. And Mr. Kwon Jr, may you sleep like an angel, and eat and pxx a lot! :) Fighting!

some women are just naturally thin and remain so even during pregnancy, so i think some of these malicious comments are motivated out of jealousy or ignorance or boredom ^^

But congrats to the newlyweds!!!

@ 23, 24. 26

I am in total agreement with you all.
Thought some comments in the last thread (of gorgeous STY in her last month's pregnancy pictures) were somewhat sour-grapishly catty and uncalled for.

Eating healthy is one thing, OVER-eating like some pregnant women do (cravings, binges on favorite foods whatever) so they look like an unnecessary barrel is another.
It's really a fallacy to think one should be eating for two.
And if I am not mistaken that extra weight also has a part to play in gestational diabetes for pregnant women.

Anyhow, many small-framed women I know having their FIRST pregnancies look pretty slender (ie looking very normal with just a slight protrusion even in the last trimester - they can even wear normal jeans, just upped 3 sizes larger.).

It also depends on what you wear.
Some women like the matronly pregnancy smocks which often look like curtains (with the same added heavy effect) ..
Some people simply wear A-line, floaty baby doll, stretchy and trendy normal clothing or tops (and stretchy pants).
(I liked SYT's choice of soft pregnancy clothing in her pictures)

Sorry to sound unromantically prosaic for the uninitiated - but eating to get the huge baby (the 8-10 pounders) just means one tears open naturally during pregnancy or has to have episiotomies (ie pre-made surgical cuts to allow passage-through).
A wiser second-timer preggie mom often eats less for a much easy delivery ... the 6-7 pounders who slip out easier.

And since no one really knows what kind of pregnancy STY had - personal hormonal changes differ vastly from one expecting mom to another ....
Who's to say either that STY wasn't having having morning sickness until her last trimester?
(I had a classmate who threw up from day one to month 8 and could only drink soups and eat dry crackers. She was utterly miserable until her last 2 weeks. She went on delivered a decent 7-pounder).

To each their own.

Congrats to them. I didn't really follow it but I now know a thing or 2 about being preggo and having a newborn. All I have to say is that if you haven't been through it, it's really hard to know what it's going to be like for someone else, even then, different women have different experiences. Things like postpartum depression is very easy to get... sleep deprivation, healing physically afterwards, high expectations, dealing with in-laws & friends in different stages... it's very difficult. I'm wishing her the best, and for her to know that it's not her fault if she gets PPD - hormones are out of wack.

If she was due the 28th, and they had the baby the 6th, that's pretty close to full term. They usually say at about 38 weeks, that's full term for most healthy weight babies. 6.6 lbs is pretty good weight.

Congrats - I'm sure they are really happy! =)
