Yoo Ah-in models for HAZZYS

I suppose I should TRY to find something useful to say here, even though it is a Yoo Ah-in picture post, which means much squealing in glee is sure to ensue. (Not that I blame ya.)

The first four photos come from the newest spread for clothing brand HAZZYS, in which everyone’s favorite Crazy Horse dons winter fashions. The casualwear look is described as “cute” and “dandy guy” in style, which is about as far as you could get from his star-making turn as the gruff, passionate Jae-shin of Sungkyunkwan Scandal.

But first: A moment of silence to mourn the loss of his hair! It wasn’t perhaps the most elegant Mane of Glory ever, but he rocked it. Sure, he’s just as adorable with the short locks, but if ever a boy could rock the hair… (For more of where that came from, refer to these handy recaps.)

Meanwhile, the last image posted below comes from his recent Thailand trip, where he shot a spread for December’s issue of Esquire magazine. Yoo is reportedly in the hunt for his next project. May it come quickly.

i really enjoyed reading the squeals and shrieks err...comments here. :-)

YAI sure made a mark with his MJS character. although i do not dig him in any romantic way as YAI (he is sooo young!) but he created an MJS that is swoon-worthy and I'm a fan for his acting prowess, sensitivity and passion for his craft.

may his tribe increase in kdramaland!

Me too!! I was in stitches reading the fangirly squeals and mooning... hehe :)

And I couldn't agree with you more, samgetang, that in the beginning, I was soooo ENAMOURED with the CHARACTER MJS than with YAI...as he is sooooo very young...

and Javabeans is so spot-on about the long mane being THE LOOK that captured my imagination...

so much so that when he appeared without it, especially during the wrap-up party, I felt myself losing the enchanted feeling that I felt when he was in character with the long mane...

thus, I agree with you, samgetang, that the MJS character with the long mane is the CHARACTER that I fell in love with, and not with Yoo Ah In himself...

but giving credit where credit is due, as YAI was the one who portrayed MJS, the character which I became enchanted with, I became interested to know more about Yoo Ah In as a person and actor...

And the 3-part interview said a lot about who Yoo Ah In is as a person and actor...and as a result, I became enamoured with Yoo Ah In as a person and actor too because he came across as wise beyond his years, humble and (in your words) "so passionate about his craft".

In fact, even before reading the 3-part interview, I read up about him somewhere (I can't remember where exactly), and from that information, I learnt more about Yoo Ah In as a person and actor and it was then I found out that he is really down-to-earth, passionate about his craft and mature beyond his years...and it triggered an interest in me to find more about him...

I think it is a result of being 40 years old - I am not so overcome with giddiness as say, someone in her 20s might be, that I keep remembering that the person I became enamoured with is A DRAMA CHARACTER being acted by an actor who is a normal human being with his own strengths and weaknesses...

thus, I am NOT enamoured with the ACTOR himself...

but if I DO NOT LIKE the ACTOR acting the CHARACTER with whom I am so enamoured, because I found out that he/she is disrespectful, arrogant and/or possesses other undesirable traits, then automatically I would lose interest in the CHARACTER that he/she plays as well...

In Yoo Ah In's case, he comes across as REAL and HONEST because whether he IS IN CHARACTER as MJS or OUT OF CHARACTER as Yoo Ah In, I do not see such a contrast in character between MJS and YAI, that I cannot help but be captivated by his portrayal of MJS and cannot help but be equally enthralled by him as YAI through his answers to the questions posed to him in the interview...

because his answers in the interview spoke volumes about his character as Yoo Ah In...and his character as being wise beyond his years, humble and passionate about his craft simply cemented my impression of the REAL HIM...
that I cannot help but still be charmed by him until now...

siiiiigh...

i guess ppl our age doesnt really squee anymore..

cos the first that happened to me is a lump in my throat then a pain at the back of my eyes, and flooded tear ducts... which i managed to control (considering im still in the office, hehhhh)

does that make sense?

Hehe...D, to me you made perfect sense :)
because I experienced the same emotional roller-coaster as well!!! Hehe...

In fact, in addition to the lump in my throat and sting in my eyes, I also experienced an ache in the region of my heart...whenever my gaze fell on MJS/YAI with the various emotional expressions playing on his endearing countenance in SKKS...hehe...forgive me for being my moony self here...hehe...

I guess the way pple our age react to such attraction tends to be the 'muted, restrained and barely visible to the naked eye' kind...or at least that is how I see it...don't know if you agree... hehe... :)

ai, my friend, I still shriek. I saw this too, first time, while sneaking a look at dramabeans in the office. all this time that I was holding myself back from showing my true colors at work, the urges snowballed and my reputation went splat against the wall. my squee, caught the attention of fellow Moony-Loons and the shriek multiplied when I showed them these smoldering photos (it was like turning on a powerful electromagnet. everyone within the five-meter radius was suddenly stuck on my computer monitor, I had to fight for space), could be much to the horror of my boss - from whom we didn't hear any complaint. It could be that she was stunned from witnessing the rapid regression of her subordinates, or was too busy bracing herself from throttling us one by one.

Hehehaha...once again, izzie, I laughed my head off and literally had stomach pains from laughing so hard at your utterly hilarious words and sharing...including the post that you posted (which I attach below) :)

"ahaha! the no-guilt-girl here would agree to disagree.

I’m sure George Clooney wouldn’t mind me slobbering after him, so why not turn my attention to the other end of the age spectrum as well? Yoo Ah In is only six years back, so… hehe.

If Sean Connery wasn’t ancient enough to qualify as my ancestor, I would’ve included him in my list of eye candies. In his place, I’ve put Ralph Fiennes.

Yoo Ah In is too awesome an artist and as a guy that I’m rendered disjointed from telling the difference between the real actor and the character that he played in SKKS. and from reminding myself that when I was in college he was still in grade school."

Hehehaha...I really can't believe it but I am thoroughly enchanted and amazed anew each time I read your posts at the depth and breadth of the Moony-obsession you are experiencing and how your colleagues have been drawn irresistibly to the Moony-Loon faction...

hehe... :)

I just hope for your own sake, one of the following scenarios will materialise with regard to your boss :

either he/she momentarily loses his/her sanity by FORGIVING you and your colleagues for your regression OR
he/she momentarily loses his/her sanity by getting DRAWN into the regression along with you and your colleagues...

hehehaha... :)

Either way, you WIN!!! Hehe... :)

hi koreandramalover, care to elaborate some more? hehe ;-)

hi koreandramalover, care to elaborate some more? hehe

MY REPLY :

Hehe...you are spot-on, as usual, samgetang!! :)

i absolutely agree that the way we respond and react to the things around us and how we express ourselves are influenced by so many factors such as our upbringing, family and friends, education, culture, religion, gender and age, among others.

You are right, samgetang, about the fact that we are only young once and so we have the so-called 'license' to 'lose it' if and when we need to...for when else do we get to do it, right?

BUT, the EXTENT, MANNER AND SCOPE to our 'LOSING IT' and in our EXPRESSIONS are determined largely by the factors that I have mentioned...

the factors which to me act as safeguards and restraints from us TOTALLY LOSING IT and saving ourselves from our less-than-proper-selves...hehe... :)

After all, there is such a thing as MATURITY, or what we simply call 'growing up', right?

Surely it would be unseemly if I were to behave like a 20-year old when I am already 40 years old - no matter how strong the urge to do so really is...as in the case with the Moony-obsession...hehe :)

BUT...there is one place where all those factors would matter not when we wish to 'LOSE IT' or GO ALL MOOOOOONY to our heart's content...

The answer :

Where else but...
in the privacy of our bedroom...
away from public view...
LOSE IT ALL YOU WANT!!! Hehe... :)

(But even then, do exercise SOME caution and restraint, if only for the sake of your sanity...hehe) :)

Hehe, I do hope I have not corrupted your pristine minds...hehe :)

And, once again you are right, samgetang, that when we are in the different age-groups, our most influential senses that determine our reactions/responses/expressions differ and undergo gradual changes...

When I was in my 20s, I was more influenced by a person's looks and personality;

in my 30s and now that I am 40 years old, I am more influenced by a person's character and intellect...and I am a lot more conscious of the factors that I mentioned before that determine my reactions/responses/expressions to the stimulus around me...

I believe it is just a natural progression and transition that everyone goes through...

So, sumee, since you are in your 20s, you are SUPPOSED to be easily influenced by a person's looks and personality...

So, what can I say? Enjoy it while it lasts... hehe :)

my thoughts exactly, koreandramalover!

we cannot separate YAI from MJS. although we were charmed by the character being portrayed, it was the actor who created the role that is the vehicle that launched that character. same here, if i found that the person behind the character is a shallow and senseless individual i might not be celebrating in unison with all the other moony fans here. :-)

hmmm...maybe he has an older brother or uncle, hahahaha! :-) just kidding....

Thank you for sharing my thoughts that you've put beautifully as :

"if I found that the person behind the character is a shallow and senseless individual I might not be celebrating in unison with all the other moony fans here."

Exactly my sentiment!! :)

In addition, I find that for someone so young, Yoo Ah In came across as such a deep, thoughtful and mature thinker from the answers he gave in the interview that I am simply blown away by the depth and breadth of his answers...

Oh! Now I remember where I read up about him...

I was in one of the posts in this blog that one of the commentors posted about an interview conducted with the 4 main characters when they were asked which scene in SKKS that they found most memorable...

Yoo Ah In answered that to him it is the scene where Kim Yoon Shik/Kim Yoon Hee pleaded with the Professor to allow her to continue studying in Sungkyunkwan even though her deception has been discovered...

Yoo Ah In's answer was deep, intelligent and reflected a maturity beyond his years - he said something along the lines that the scene was a pivotal moment in SKKS for him because it provided a deeper dimension to the SKKS's story than simply about the antics of the scholars in Sungkyunkwan during the Joseon era...

I can't remember in which episode's recapping that the above info was posted...I hope I can find it one day...

"Thank you ever so much for sharing your moment of insanity, because you never fail to make me laugh my head off with your emotional-outbursts of a post…"

- and thank you too for the equally-hilarious posts and for sharing the Moony-Loony Bin with me. :) if ever I come out as funny, it may be because of the bizarre mix of excitement and frustration that overcomes my being - Moon's so gorgeous, but so out of reach.

"Btw, may I ask – how old are you?"

Arrgh! the age question! (nuninuninuni...) It's Yoo Ah In's age plus six. I'm an evil noona! :) hehe! All the more reason for him to be afraid. But then again, with my tendencies of turning into a stone, what harm can I do? Unless someone hauls me at him when that happens - it could be an exciting and terrifying experience altogether.

"Are you American/Korean-American/just Korean?"

Neither. Okay, this is gonna sound like a facebook status... it's complicated. :) I'm an outcome of the outrageous cross-breeding of Spanish, French, Malay, Chinese, and Japanese, who is often mistaken for an ethnic Chinese, and strangely sounds like an American. Out of all these blood and culture donors, not a drop came from a Korean. (Imagine my frustration at that.) :P

"You are so incredibly witty and expressive…"

- thank you. on the other hand, I think I babble too much and wear my heart too far out of my sleeve for my own good. :) good thing, I only meet understanding (if not equally-crazy) people o'er here. :)

"who is often mistaken for an ethnic Chinese, and strangely sounds like an American. Out of all these blood and culture donors, not a drop came from a Korean. (Imagine my frustration at that.)"

Wow, no wonder your mind is one of a kind!!!
What with the amalgamation of such awesome genes, blood, cultures and brains....AWESOMENESS OVERLOAD!!! :)

"I think I babble too much and wear my heart too far out of my sleeve for my own good. good thing, I only meet understanding (if not equally-crazy) people o’er here."

Yes, yes, my dear....soooo glad to make your acquaintance, my fellow Moony-loon...

let's walk into the sunset together, shall we?

cos the Moon is so far out of our reach, maybe by walking into the sun, we could crash and burn and put ourselves out of our misery...pining for the Moonly-impossible...siiiiiigh....

Hi there, izzie!

I went back to the episode 20 recap, and lo and behold, found your reply to my post, which I attach below because I wish to reply to it :

Your post :

117.1.1.3.1 izzie November 17th, 2010 at 9:26 am

And you’re too sweet! I should be the grateful one. Your response is way more than what I deserve. I guess life’s a comedy, more so when sprinkled with something crazy like a Moon-obsession. It may be good that we’re oceans apart. Imagine how it would be if the Moony-Loons of the world converged. (And what about the Smarty-Loons and the Yeorim-Loons?) Moony (and the rest of the JQ) has reasons to be concerned.

Thanks for the links! I’ll share it with my friends/Moony-Loon converts. I have to share the load so as to keep whatever sanity that’s left in me. Hehe. This is one of the rare cases where Moonshine can blind me and render me incoherent for hours (which explains the delayed reply). But what do I do? It’s not just the Moony’s face and/or the body (okay, self, stop drooling!) that one can’t help but admire, but the talent too. He’s like a tow truck to the emotions that if he smiles, you can’t help but smile, and if he winces, you feel his pain. (And shortly after, you start drooling again. Talk about that shirtless, bandaged body… Omo!) (Sigh) Please forgive the thoughts that pop in my head. Lately, they strangely swing from the eloquent to the distorted. How do you rein in the tart and the risque after a prolonged exposure to the Moon? C’est tres difficile! No matter how insanely hot the Moon is, we have to keep in mind that he’s still in PG-13 territory! (Excuse me while I degauss my head momentarily. I can’t come up with sweet nor wholesome ways to describe him while I’m at this train of thought…)

Okay. Where was I? Oh yeah, the Moon obsession…

Your confession about having your secret stash of Moon photos in your work PC made me laugh. I do the same thing too! It’s like having a secret supply of chocolates in your drawer, no? Only, chocolates don’t make you swoon. It’s like an emergency pick-me-up stash.

My goodness. I hope Yoo Ah In doesn’t find this thread and get to read it. How would we redeem ourselves?

koreandramalover, thanks again for the links. I too am so happy to have found new friends here who share what I feel towards the Moony and dig the crazy that I am.

P.S.
I can’t wait for the next Yoo Ah In drama, and I hope he gets the lead role the next time. His talent deserves more than a second lead role.

My reply :

Hehehaha...oh my goodness, izzie!!! I died laughing reading your post!!! Hehehaha... You are precious!!! :)

Thank you ever so much for sharing your emotional/psychological breakdown with the Moon... :)

I am in total agreement with your feelings, thoughts and expressions regarding the Moon...even the part about thinking thoughts-that-should-never-be-thoughts-in-my-head...but...as you said, what can we do???

There is a saying :

"The heart wants what the heart wants."

I have something new to add to that :

"The head thinks what the head wants to think - so there!!!" :)

Hehe...

I agree with you about the Moony photos being an instant emergency pick-me-up stash...

in fact, to me it is the pick-me-up like no other because no other pick-me-up can render me speechless and my facial muscles frozen and fixed at savouring EVERY SINGLE ADORABLE angle of MJS's countenance in the photos...

HOW could it be that he looks GORGEOUS from ANY AND EVERY ANGLE? It's practically CRIMINAL how GORGEOUS he looks...hehe...

Would you think that I am in deeper trouble than even you with regard to the Moony obsession if I confess that I even store the gorgeous MJS photos in my cellular phone? Hehe... :)

I just can't get enough of mooning over his blindingly dazzling, endearing good looks...hehe... :)

Alright! *Slaps to my face*

Enough! Enough!

Hehehaha...

If we were face to face, we'd be totally winding up in the loony bin for laughing at each other's craziness. See how this entire Moon obsession is pulling out the dramatic thoughts and words out of us? (And not just us, randomly pick any entry in this thread and it translates to crazy!) The id has totally overpowered the ego and the superego altogether!

"Would you think that I am in deeper trouble than even you with regard to the Moony obsession if I confess that I even store the gorgeous MJS photos in my cellular phone? Hehe…"

- most probably. you've just upped the theft-worthiness of your mobile phone with photos of the Moon. beware of fangirls in your neighborhood. I suggest you don't employ the SKKS theme song as your ringtone. It would be like hanging a steak-bait to the dogs. In the case of Moony-Loons... wolves. goodluck there. :)

"HOW could it be that he looks GORGEOUS from ANY AND EVERY ANGLE? It’s practically CRIMINAL how GORGEOUS he looks…hehe…"

- aw, you're totally right!!! even when the Moon has his back on the TV screen, I wanted to jump in and hug him from behind like a brat to an oversized teddy bear!

My goooodness! this entire visualization thing is driving me nuts, I could almost feel the soft fabric of his garb squished in between my arms and his probably-granite-like abs.

And he smells of fabric softener and after-shave.

I koreandramalover, sumee, and izzie and everybody else who were reading in this crazy thread, hahaha!

I never had as much fun as reading all your posts here! It was all crazy, and messy, and squealy, and fangirly, and moony, and loony, and wacky and all things out of this world! hahahahaha!

Truly, javabeans, must be amazed at all these responses from just a few photos of YOO AH IN!!!

What more if she posted news that YAI will, for instance, star in a new full-length movie (yay!) or perhaps he will be visiting the nearest mall in your country of choice (pls pls pls) or maybe he will have a meet and greet in your favorite destination and it happens to be where you will be visiting too at the exact time n day he will be there...ahhhh! ;-)

Imagination going wild..... :-) have a great moony-loony weekend ahead everyone! ;-)

I'm stealthy, you wouldn't notice. :) That is if I don't turn into a stone first before I succeed at it. And then poor Moony will have to pry apart the hands of a statue that are wrapped around him.

"PS seriously i am laughing like a crazy …my brother just got up (from his SLEEP)& is fuming like nuts what am i doing at 4 in the morning laughing loudly like a psycho ..woooooooooo"

I'm glad you're not rethinking associating yourself with us. :) or are you? in any case, we can't blame you. if you keep hanging out with us, you know it won't do you any good. :)

I have a theory/suspicion on this.

Winter garbs in Thailand? What's that all about?

Apart from your point that the clothes are meant to be torn, I think they were also meant to be melted.

Put anything in between the scorching Thai sun and Yoo Ah in, and it will be obliterated by the UV rays and the sheer awesomeness/hotness of the wearer.

Now here goes my theory: the photo shoot team meant for that to happen when they did the location scouting. So what happened was, they put layers of garbs on the Moon to buy them time to make lots of shots for photo variety, until the the clothes vanish into thin air. But they kept shooting. They thought we'll never know because what we only get to see here is a Quarter Moon. Which leads me to suspect that there might have been a Half Moon, or worse, a Full Moon.

and with that thought, I can't think no more.

0

I would choose option B. :)

we might need bullet/Moony proof vests.

but who wants to be immune of him? :)

if he hides under a rock, I don't care if it's in Patagonia or the Himalayas, I will embark on an expedition to locate that rock and join him in his hiding. :)

Hehe...I think it has something to do with the different effect that hair does to men and women...

To some women,
hairy men (but at the right places and with the right DEGREE of 'HAIRY-NESS'...hehe)
is a sign of virility and 'manliness' (don't know if there is such a term)...

I for one LOATHE hairy men but I just LOVE how Yoo Ah In LOOK in the hair-style that he sported as MJS...

because the hairstyle managed to make him look both GORGEOUS and yet ADORABLE... :)
a feat not easily achieved by just anyone or any actor...

Just compare his look with and without the long mane and what a difference the long mane makes to how WE feel when we LOOK at him... :)

Required fields are marked *

im partial to bald men, i dont know, hehehe ;-)

but hairy men like Guh-ro in SKKS are what is traditionally or normally considered swoon-worthy depictions of male attractiveness (that explains why rockstars sport a long and voluminous mane to keep the girls swooning and ahhh-ing hahaha!)

the director/prod designers' decision to make him don a long mane (if this is not what was prescribed in the novel) is a wise decision....it earned million points for Guh-ro's character and made him the formidable second-lead actor that he is now ;-)

Required fields are marked *

Hehe...interesting points, samgetang!!! :)

You are partial to bald men? Hmm...frankly, I can understand how you could be...especially if they look as good without the hair... hehe :)

And I second your thought that the writer/director/PD/prod designers' decision to make him don a long mane as the most BRILLIANT idea...as I cannot imagine MJS without it...and how much of a difference that would have made to his second-lead actor position...surely, there would not be the MOONY-obsession that we are witnessing now... hehe :)

0

the long hair did justice by framing his awesome face. plus there's the joy of playing peek-a-boo with his marble-like eyes.

apparently, the more the face shows, the more Yoo Ah In looks young. I agree that he should not go baldie. what if he ends up looking like an infant?! What, I mean WHAT would that do to us?!

0

koreandramalover, hahaha! im partial to bald men but was taken in by a long-haired man when i was a bit younger...haha! all this fascination with men and hair, hehe ;-) all the hair on my arms and legs have all gone awry :-)

izzie, YAI as bald as the day he was born...hahahaha! that should stop all this swooning for this babe, hahaha! :-)
