@asianromance

Ah, I see you were watching Unubore Deka. Since the first page of the thread is getting way long I thought it would be okay to post to the second page with a reply...

...Pretty much everything has been bad. Utsukushi Rinjin might be interesting, but I'm not putting all my money down on it. Let me know if there's any series you're interested in and I'll give you a light review.

Like I always say Mother was a great show from last year, or even Freeter is pretty decent. It's like every bad thing about Japan rolled into one giant hate spiral of a show. Except for their hate of surrogate mothers, which will be a topic of a drama the upcoming spring season. Looking forward to seeing the response on that.

Oh... and I bet you all thought I wouldn't watch UraKARA. No, I did. I watched it for each and everyone of you. Before viewing I said "Nicole is going to be the best thing in this drama" - I was right. WTF, robot butler. Robot.Butler. This show has to be seen while super-drunk for maximum enjoyment. Those Kara girls sure are short.

I see you have some good taste there. Chase was great, haven't seen all of Atami no Sousaken yet..trying to get that in with Marks no Yama. Wow, there's way too much to watch and not enough time.

janna:
Thing with me was I didn't like Ji-min sunbae too much. He'd emit these potential-prick vibes. But lately he's coming over all geeky and nice-guy. But Min-sung is the real star here. Him and Eun-ju will be great together, and she'll be great with all 1,231 of his dongsaengs too. <3
Bwahahaha! But they're so funny. You're right it is too crazytown to be shipping anyone. Are you making a note the different parodies?

Kristal:
Sorry dude, we were stretching that comment thread out so I'm starting a new comment.
WISFC is wonderful, wonderful to me. I thought the writing was superb and actually made sense inspite of it allegedly getting clusterf**ked* in the second half *wise words of belleza) but the directing was magical (bar Go-soo's pimped out entrance and shower scene). I love that when things got dramatic they'd still maintain this subdued tone and the background score would be like something extracted from a Miyazaki anime, just giving it a really nice feel without EVER being overbearing and screechy. It's the only drama I've rewatched, that too a handful of times, the more I watch it the more the story clicks into place.

If the show was a guilty pleasure, I would be ok with people ripping it to shreds, but I feel it IS actually a quality drama -- so yeah, I do get a bit uppity in its defense.

I'm not that big a fan of Go Soo to be honest, he's definitely gorgeous but I wouldn't watch an entire drama for him alone. I won't be watching Piano this weekend, definitely once I'm done with at least one sageuk though.

I've gone through the sageuks I had lined up (read skimmed through) and had a good feel of which world I'd prefer to enter into. The winner is: a tie between Ja Myung-go and Gumiho Fox Child. I will watch both.
Gumiho has some pretty cheesy special effects and monster makeup but OMG, I'm loving what I saw. There's something very authentic about it and Seo Shin-ae and Kim Yoo-jung are both such wonderful little actresses to watch. Can't wait!
Ja Myung-go: Luuuurves! Magical, imaginative, earthy, BADASS! Brilliant cast, there are so many faces I'm happy to see. Lee Won-jong, Lee Han-wei... The haughty, frosty-ass bitch from Bad Love! Yay! But best of all... *pinches nostrils and in really nasally voice* Kyung-ho-oppaaaaa!

Jejoongwon, Joseon X-Files are definitely next after these two.

janna:
I just feel so indifferent about Duo. Never really seen CJM in anything where he'd leave an impression on me, but he's gorgeous yes. But then the rest of the cast and the premise seems so meh.

At first I didn't want to like Ji-min. Since he's not the main male lead and all. He was kind of a jerk, but then he comes in doing good and punching people at the right time (I really like that song cue in episode 9) and all cringe worthy stupid moments (the pants part) make me pity and love him. But then Min Sung rips off his shirt in the middle of winter and punches the air and stuff. .... Wait, why do we like these two dummies? Haha...

My true love goes out to Na Young. The dream sequence of her getting rid of Man Soo...omo... Eun Joo just pulls the salt right out of the bottom drawer of her desk, hilarious.

''Min Sung rips off his shirt in the middle of winter and punches the air and stuff.'' OMG! I diiiiied! Not at the choco abs as much as it was about the lulz factor. All of his moment-of-solitude-by-the-hillside scenes are priceless.

Na-young is adorkable and the pink earmuffs. Awww.
Was it salt or water by the way? Either way, fecking hilarious!

Btw, I'm watching Ja Myung-go, it's the dark, twisted (sickening even) big sister to the disneyfield Queen Seon-deok. Yes, even Jung Kyung-ho plays Prince Prick of Pricksville. But his actions are not unwarranted so I won't put him up on the asshole-o-metre just yet... because the story's pulled all the way back to the very start when he was just a kid. Backstoryville...
Kang Soo-han aka the overacty-cringey-bad-actor that was little Gyun-wook in Bad Guy plays Prince Ho-dong's wee version and quite surprisingly impressed me, he was in his element in JMG.
But then we just had a timejump and he's now being played by ... *drumroll* Gang-mo Ree -- the shoeshiner version. Yeo Jin-gu is fantastic as Ho-dong, the crouching tiger style sword fight scenes and his billowing ponytail. But it's strange without his voice having broken yet, he's still a baby (bless him). Park Ha-young's also in it and Jung Ryeo-won's kid version is being played by Bad Family's Na-rim. <3
Lee Mi-sook is chilling, this is a combo of her EoE and Cinderella Unni role but amped up further with sleaze elements!
Just saying, lest I tempt you to check it out, too? No?

I might have to give it a go, I mean Yeo Jin-gu, such a cutie. I hope to see him in some more stuff, he can't just go back to swimming and stuff!

I was pretty sure it was salt to ward off evil spirits, mwahaha...

A man without a brain sure can do some crazy stuff in the hillside. All alone... until Na-young is staring you down... how did he sweat like that in the winter? I hope that scene didn't take too long to film. D:

JMG’s first episode is wonderful, WONDERFUL! But then when you pull back to Backstoryville around the second episode it’s horrifying. Not so much Prince Ho-dong’s story, his flows along and it’s pretty comprehensible; it’s the two Princesses (Ja Myung and La-hee) whose story is brutal, so craaayzeh!
Just to give you a heads-up if you're serious:
There’s this yangban rebel leader guy who’s trying to overthrow the king and take the throne, and he has two wives; the first is ‘noble and pure’ (Ja-myung’s omma), the second is a crafty seductress (Lee Mi-sook – La-hee’s omma) and they both give birth the same night, both of them having girls. Having girls being a big no-no for their father, especially given they were born at such a crucial time for the father and they’re ordered to be killed. It’s honestly not for the faint of heart. I skipped past those parts, but we’re rewarded a couple of episodes after once we’re past the baby phase and into the proper childhood phase with Yeo Jin-gu playing Ho-dong and the two actresses playing the princesses (yes, they live! In spite of the odds, though Ja-myung is seperated and raised among common folk.). Queen Seon-deok was very similar with this theme, but just a lot more er, ‘family-friendly’ with it, which I guess explains why the ratings figures must have favoured QSD then.
I really wish the directing could have been a bit more censored than going for the shock tactics. But still JMG seems much better in terms of scope, the bigger picture. It’s just smacking of EPIC! I’m loving Yeo Jin-gu and the rest of the child cast and can’t wait till they all grow up and we get into the thick of the story.
Plus, you simply cannot miss Jung Kyung-ho playing a prince, who is eevol.

OK, forgerrit janna. This drama is a bit too crazy, JMG is all a bit awry. I have a handful of issues with it that are grating on me. It's just too fracking crazeh! Oh, did I say it's crazy?
I'm not completely out of love with it, but only once I've fallen back in love with it again will I bother recommending it to anyone. It would help if there was more YJG, but there's just not enough, I feel cheated. :(
Onwards and upwards to the adult phase, only that will determine how long I should continue with this venture into sageuk.
Guh. Sageuk. Pompous royals. And I thought watching something with JKH in would be less divatastic. Ha.

BTW, that previous comment was not spoilerage, I swears, just a quick synopsis of only the the first couple of episodes, minus the REAL developments.

Anyways, good news for ye Joo Sang-wook fangirls; he's slated to star in a new drama with the gorgeous Han Hye-jin AND the amazeballs Kim Min-jung!
(No I probably won't watch it, I'm not enough of a fangirl though I do admire his acting talent.) That's defs a step up from Paaaaradiiiise!

0

don't think you're getting out of that.

0

You mean Paradise? Dude, y u b so evol?!
Let's not watch the latter and watch how Kim Min-jung revenges against the whole world instead?

Guh, JMG, I can't stop watching it, it's like a sick obsession.

Anyways, Saengchori: forgot to mention the purple smiley badge saga! Ji-min dropped one at the start, so I suspect him (haahaa!), I'm sure Min-young dropped some and always wears that suspicious face (haahaah! Throw in the Bad Guy parody -- diiiied!) and NOW: this Jo Pil-yeon-clone shows up with the shades, hair and debonair smile and leaves purple smiley badges in his wake, too!

0

OMG! Ja Myung-go, you are wonderful! Beautiful! *stream of tears*

0

I wish I could get what you mean by the Bad Guy parody. I so did not watch that, and when I was like "hey my friends of the Open Thread, should I watch this show?" I met a strong response of how small innocent puppies died and so forth. So I was like "and we delete that torrent, and move on..."

We did not watch Scream High if you remember bro. And they made Kim Soo Hyun do idol dances.Idol dances. (imagines jazz hands, but is probably over imagining things) Our Kim Soo Hyun is gonna be popular now. Noooooooo. You only have to watch episode one of Paradise Ranch.

Since I'm up at 4am... Going to watch JMG.

Kristal:
So I accept that you don't like Mr Gang-mo Ree. But y-y-y-ou don't like Dr Ahn?

Look, there should be a kdrama asshole-o-meter. So we can technically define what does and what doesn't make a character an asshole.
Here are the the basics:
Pervert.
Invading a girl's personal space when he's not wanted.
Making someone else's life a misery when it's unwarranted.

Dr Ahn is none of those he was just a nerd type who kept himself to himself and took his job very seriously. He could be a bit abrasive and snarky, but it was never personal. Big heart, totally harmless. Love him!

Mr Gang-mo Ree, like something out of Goodfellas, cocky and violent. Awesome!
Never once any one of those three things. And again big heart and totally harmless -- with the right people.
(And oh, how many times I wanted to slap JY across the face and wrist-grab her man and elope to some remote fishing island, and marry him in an isolated church.)

Now Min-woo is right at the top of the asshole-o-meter, he was all three things, y'know? I totally couldn't forgive the poor tortured guy.

PS. *Lee Han-wie. Hate spelling stuff wrong, I always do that, guh.

Glad you're still on the Gloria bandwagon, I'm a bad Dr Wang fangirl, I jumped ship and have been watching Smile, You instead. I'm up to around 32nd episode mark and still not tired of it, it's just so winsome, soon as it begins to lag it perks up again magically.
And Dr Ahn -- twu wub 4 lyfe.

Kristal:
Eep! Hate the tone of my comments above, hope I didn't come across unbearing and screechy in a bid to shun all that is overbearing and screechy- haha, it's all in jest. You can love and hate who you want. So you can go ahead and hate Dr Ahn and WISFC all that you want. *bottom lip juts out*

MBC live streaming - can anyone assist with this question?

The few sites through which I usually live stream MBC have not been working in the last few days. After buffering, a genearl iMBC flashboard type thing comes up and then nothing happens. Any advice on how to make it work?

Or, better still: any other way I can watch MBC live but my (work) laptop won't accept any form of download and so, tVanz type thing is out of question.

I would need this for continuing my watching Gloria and My Princess. Any advice would be gratefully accepted.

My current crack is My Princess, sorry, I've waited since EoE for SSH to redeem himself, and it's happening ... now if it just doesn't go south like Personal Taste did ... and EoE did ... also, I'm finishing Secret Garden, and just before bed each night, I'm watching one ep of MGiaG (now on 3rd), hoping I'll find the love for it that so many did.

I finally finished Giant and am about to take the depressing plunge of What Happened in Bali. I know the ending and I'm now refreshed enough to take the ride that drama will have me on. Green Rose has become my morning workout watch after JB previewed ep 1 here in December.

I'm enjoying another watch of Bad Couple with our FB k-drama group, introducing my daughter's friends to My Girl just this past weekend (they are SO SO SO in love with Lee Don Wook), and on the back burner these days are also two T-dramas and two J-dramas. I had to give up on my last Thai drama: I just couldn't take the shrieking anymore. I hope to re-visit it later in the year as the storyline wasn't bad.

I've hit the max deadline time of year for myself, too, so I'm on the sewing machine for hours and the dramas are always on in the background ... I've only got two spring weddings and about 20 performance costumes, so lately I've been finishing up my fall line and re-stocking my on-line stores from holiday sales. Which is good, because I need more money to buy more of my favorite dramas and soundtracks.

I did get director's cut TTI, but I'm waiting to open it for Spring Break week, which I've promised the girls, who want to watch with me. We're going to marathon City Hall, TTI, and BOF that week.

Other than that, I'm kind of lazing around a lot, finishing up a writing project (I was in re-write hell last week, now we're in the stew before the edit brew phase), driving the kids to practices, cleaning house or cooking occasionally, waiting on a friend to go into labor (I'm her labor coach). LOL. I need a vacation, but every time I take a vacation, I need an assistant to help me catch up from my vacation. Besides, I hate being bored.

I'm way behind here, so I'll have to catch up. What's your latest?? <3

I envy you, I really do! You have a busy life and can still cram in so much kdrama into your routine.
I can't multitask. It's true, I can't - I'm a shame to womankind. So when it's dramatime I can't do anything else but make sure I have everything else out of the way and then I snuggle up in my pjs and settle down to a good drama with my undivided attention. Sometimes I don't get that chance till midnight, like tonight, and I have to be up at 7am for work. Eep!

Aah, WHIB, everyone has to graduate from the school of WHIB. The mother of all romantic melodramas. x

***spoilers for episode 15 of It's Okay Daddys Girl***
wtf progress montage. Way to cut corners show (slow clap) and how would you like to go Jong Suk? Oh, kicking and screaming? Kicking and screaming it is then! Embarrassing....I took a screen shot at the end of the episode with the entire cast giving the ice cold bitch stare. I still haven't stopped laughing from it. Seriously. This is going to to be my wallpaper. So much love, Daddy's Girl. EVERYBODY GROUP HUG - not you Jong Suk. Paging Dr. Hong... :| (I wish he was in that scene) ***spoilers over***

can't wait for tomorrows ending. D: I'm gonna miss this show.

janna:
Bad Guy was pretty good. But then the production had many setbacks and it suffered. That and the fact that the writing was pretty underwhelming as a whole, it wasn't able to match up with the winsome directing, everyone's competent acting and awesome score and OST. I don't regret watching it all though, I <3 that Sexy Bastard.

JMG is sageuk and I'm a sageuk n00b, but this is proving a crash-course in understanding sageuk culture. Expect sickeningly inhumane twists of fate (I'm warning you, the childhood portion is rife with them), nationalistic chest-beating politics, for a few characters to be written irritatingly black and white and huuuuge stakes. There are three kingdoms at war and it's facken crayzeh.
But in spite of this, right in the heart of the story you have the scarred Prince Ho-dong and the lost princess Ja-myung and between them an epic, EPIC love story. Jung Kyung-ho is awesome, I was already in love, now even more so - easily becoming one of my fave actors. I've never really liked Jung Ryeo-won but she's knocking it out of the ball park and has totally, totally won me over. Park Min-young, also fabulously nuanced. Lee Ju-hyeon who I once spotted in the two episodes of the craptastic Sweet Spy I managed to get through, made my heart constrict even with his limited role, he looks frighteningly like Bruce Lee. In JMG he's the second lead and a warrior (so there's plenty of martial arts) and he's truly mesmerising.
The writer has a kind of Jang Young-cheol (everything-happens-for-a-reason) thing going on, so know that if you keep watching you'll be rewarded. (Though Jang Young-cheol does it with a better, more solid structure).
