Reminder: Meetup in Seattle on Saturday

Just a quick reminder for all of you in the Seattle area: Our meetup is this weekend! If you’re going to be in the area, please drop by and hang out with us at the Ballard Library (just off Market Street in Ballard).

Speaking from our experience at the last two meetups, it’ll be a relaxed, casual affair — the Dramabeans community happens to be pretty friendly and funny in real life, too, so don’t feel intimidated at the thought of coming alone or meeting strangers. It’ll be fun, we promise. Okay, I can’t promise that. But I can hope real hard, and that’s almost the same thing, right?

Once again, the details:

Date: Saturday, September 21
Time: 2:30 to 5:30 pm
Location: Ballard Library, Meeting Room
Address: 5614 22nd Ave. N.W.
            Seattle, WA 98107
            Directions

44 yr old mother of 5 married 22 yrs in Seattle,WA. My obsession started 1 1/2 yrs ago with my 1st kdrama being "Boys over flowers" thanks to my younger sister. I'm have no problem telling people I am hooked to kdrama - I am constantly telling people I don't watch American TV. I just think too many things have become "acceptable" & I don't want my younger children exposed to it so I rather not turn the tv on. I enjoy the innocence & sense of humor from kdramas ! I will tell my sister about the "meet up" but I can't make it because saturdays are always busy with kids sports ! Hope you all have a great time !!

Okay so I'm a southern male at 50 with no connection to Korea (military college - but never in Korea). I ended up watching these Korean shows because our house burnt down and while we were going through the insurance process (longish) our insurance company had us in a apartment and I started watching Hulu. I kept seeing all these asian looking shows and I randomly clicked one (Rooftop Prince) the story was pretty odd and different, but in an interesting way, so I clicked the first episode to see how it started. Bang! back in time and I thought WTH! How do you get from there to here (murder on a cruiser off New York)? I watched the whole show...I'd found a new toy. Wanting to know more I looked and stumbled on mysoju and my wife and I watched the one on it's most popular list and it was Coffee Prince (amazing) and I kind of got hooked on this 16/20-ish episode format (except for Assorted Gems I like it too, except the very end). And then the mysoju site goes down and found this site (much better). So no I wouldn't go to a meet-up (I'm sure everyone is nice, but too fish out of water) but I really like the shows and thanks for having this site. So yeah southern, married, two kids, swim/tennis/golf neighborhood so for me it was a random click on Hulu. Wouldn't normally comment but seeing so many different type people I decided to chime in.

Hello Robert!

I just wanted to say it is great that you shared your experience. I think you would find if you did live in Seattle and had gone to the meet up that you would not be as much a fish out of water as you think. It was an incredibly diverse group of people from 16 to 70! Many men (Ok a handful). Most of us with no connection to Korean but our love for K-dramas. Also you would have found that many (and I mean many) of us became addicts the exact same way you did - with the click of a button. But you are very lucky that you have your wife to share it with and that is a wonderful thing.

Amy

I'm so glad there's going to be another meetup - I was at first sad to find out about the 9/20 meetup today, but yay, there's going to be another one! Luv the fact that there's 40-something yr-olds and a bunch of other age groups - more the merrier! I'm from the Portland area, so I'll definitely will try to make it for the 1st airing of Heirs...^^
