Fated To Love You: Episode 9

Just when I thought that Fated To Love You could be too good to be true, that this show couldn’t be any more charming than it already is, Fated goes ahead to prove me wrong again. Never has watching two people dote upon each other day in and day out felt more like having my cake and eating it too, and let me tell you, that cake is scrumptiously sweet. Mi-young is truly a diamond in the rough, and Gun needs to do something about that latest ‘do he’s sporting—stat.

As for our weekly check-in at the ratings table: Fated To Love You hit a 10.2% with this episode. Its competitors Joseon Gunman took first place again at 11.2% and It’s Okay, It’s Love came in at 9.1%.

EPISODE 9 RECAP

We pick back up at Lee Manor where Gun climbs into bed after Mi-young and asks if she’s sleeping. She isn’t, and neither can she suppress a smile at his adorable ramblings of how he-was-just-trying-to-kiss-her-tears-away-and-that-seeing-a-woman-cry-makes-him-momentarily-loses-his-senses. Uh huh, sure.

They bid each other goodnight, and Gun has to fight the constant urge to sneak over to her side of the the bed, even in his sleep. Mi-young finds this far too adorable and tucks him in before she lies down to watch him sleep. “Would it be okay if I’m greedy about you?” she muses aloud.

As Mi-young sees him out the next morning, Gun doesn’t miss an opportunity for a little sugar before work and motions at his cheek. Mi-young doesn’t pick up on the hint right away, but just as Gun turns away, slightly disappointed, she plants a kiss on his cheek.

She buries her face in her hands, embarrassed, and Gun literally teeters, unable to pull it together. Look, I haven’t had my morning coffee yet—you two can’t be this sweet already. His grin grows even wider when she suggests having lunch together; he’s totally on Cloud 9.

But then Gun is strangely depressed when we see him next with Doctor Moon. Although there’s no guarantee that his genetic disease (the one we know hardly anything about) won’t flare up, Gun has got a fighting chance to live a normal lifespan if he’s still healthy by the time he’s forty.

Gun wants to at least make sure he lives another two decades, and when asked why, he answers, “If I want to protect our Keddongie, I think I have to take care of it for about twenty years.” He’d be less worried once his child is grown up, and then Doctor Moon barks at Gun to get to work already.

Gun and Daniel sign off on their collaboration at work, then pose together for the press. I love how they awkwardly put an arm over each other to show just how friendly they are, only to exchange terse words through their teeth. Daniel: “I desperately want to give you a seal of approval. As Mi-young’s husband.” Gun: “I’ll take care of it, so you needn’t concern yourself.”

When the photographer asks for another pose, Gun places his fist near Daniel’s jaw: “How about this?” Ha. Nearby, the head elder gripes over how Gun managed to avoid his dismissal this time by securing that deal with Daniel, but he won’t give up.

As expected, Mi-young shows up to Gun’s office with a homemade lunch, and omg—the rice is decorated with their faces on them. That’s both cute and sort of weird, but Gun gawks in amazement all the same. She says they’ll eat the ones with their own faces, and he asks if they can’t switch. ‘Cause, you know, it’s kinda scary eating his own face. Hee.

He offers to eat hers, and Mi-young asks naively, “Isn’t that weirder?” He just wants to share (and maybe eat you up)! Let him! So Gun starts off by eating her “sweet nose,” which is just as sweet as he expected.

Then Gun’s eyes fall upon Mi-young’s lips, and he slowly draws towards her… but she pulls back and Gun winces in disappointment. I love the sad violin playing over this right now. He tries again, but Mi-young just blinks back at him blankly, so he mutters resignedly, “I’ll just eat the lips,” before picking up and eating the vegetable.

When he says Mi-young is quite different these days like those people on TV, she says he always told her to be. Now she’s going to live her life as Keddongie’s mother, not just a post-it. “You’re not going to be superglue and just live as Keddongie’s mother?” he asks. “You can’t not be superglue.” With that, they dig in happily.

Apparently Mom has moved her tiny seaside restaurant to a much bigger space in the city, since they were able to buy the property quite cheaply. Methinks Gun had something to do with it. Mi-young worries that her mother will miss leaving their hometown island, but Mom insists that it’s far better being close to family—she’ll get to see Gun more often, too. Aw.

Mi-young asks if Mom really regards Gun as a son, citing his strange laughter. Ha, I love that the show hangs a lantern on that quirk. Mom admits she found him weird at first, but Gun becomes far more lovable the more she got to know him. Preach it, Mama.

While they both smile over how kind Gun is, we see him stumbling around outside carrying a gift, then banging on the window excitedly in greeting. Business is booming at the restaurant, and everyone does their part, including the newlyweds. Aw, even Manager Tak shows up with eldest unni Mi-sook (who notably speaks like a Seoulite, ha).

It’s sweet how Gun takes care of the heavy lifting because Mi-young is with child, and Mi-young responds in kind by wiping off the sweat from his face. Gun wraps a hand on her waist “for strength,” and Mom has to break up the lovebirds, though she too grins at how hard he’s working.

Mom: “Where do you find a husband like that nowadays?” Mi-young: “He’s someone I’m really grateful for.”

Mi-young works on a scrapbook for Keddongie at home, affixing the baby’s first sonogram and the floral bandaid Gun placed on her arm. She writes her first letter to Keddongie, recording how happy she was that she and Daddy (meaning, Gun) worked at the restaurant together today. “Mommy and Daddy are slowly becoming…”

“…a real family,” she finishes aloud, setting down her pen. She breaks into a wide smile.

Meanwhile, Se-ra frowns over her pictures with Gun, only for her evening to get even more depressing when her mother shows up unexpectedly.

Gun isn’t at all thrilled about the idea of participating in a promotional photoshoot with Daniel. Evidently Mi-young will be featured as well, per Grandma Wang’s orders, and Gun tsks over how they can’t even pay for the contract termination fee so that Daniel’s literally out of the picture. Manager Tak tells him not even to mention that termination fee (whihakgeum) because it makes his stomach (whi) flip. So punny.

So Gun and Mi-young take their couple shots first, and needless to say, it’s lovey dovey and just plain adorable. I especially love the moment when the two break into candid laughter. Gah, I wanna save all of the shots—I’ve never been so mad at election tickers until right this very second.

Baby-faced Yong catches Ji-yeon’s eye, and she introduces herself as a life consultant, adding a flirty wink for good measure. The cheery atmosphere on set suddenly drops the moment Daniel arrives, and Gun lectures him for arriving late. Daniel answers, “I was so excited about taking pictures with Mi-young that I couldn’t sleep, so I overslept. I’m sorry.”

Gun immediately turns Mi-young towards him when he catches her smiling at Daniel. He tells her to stop smiling, and then wraps his arms around her for another picture.

The trio takes their next set of pictures on a couch, and it’s hilarious how both men inch towards Mi-young and one-up their affection for her with every click. Gun places his head on her lap… and Daniel quietly slides the pillow away to cover Gun’s face instead. Then Gun deliberately pushes his face between them and leans against Mi-young.

Later on, he slaps Daniel’s hand away and covers his face. The best part about this entire photoshoot is that Jang Nara doesn’t seem to mind that both men are fighting to get a picture with her. At all. And honestly, who would?

The one-upmanship continues as Gun takes Mi-young’s hand, and so does Daniel. So when Gun kisses her hand, Daniel places both hands on hers, and both men try to pull her towards them.

Things get awkward again when just the men have to be photographed together, and are forced to sit closer. When Gun latches onto Daniel’s arm, Daniel returns the favor and squeezes Gun’s arm. Hard. HAHAHAHA.

Daniel happens to see Mi-young on a mysterious call that worries her, so when Mi-young declines a ride from Gun, he offers to take her instead. Gun doesn’t like this idea one bit, but Mi-young insists that it’s only for today.

In the car, Daniel notes her worried state and offers to drop her off wherever she needs to go. He asks if he shouldn’t ask what it’s about, and respects her answer of no.

It turns out that Se-ra was the one who called Mi-young out, and it’s sad how she can’t bring herself to look Se-ra in the eye. And Se-ra cuts to the chase: “Do you love Gun?” When Mi-young hesitates to answer, Se-ra says that Gun told her last time that he felt responsible for Mi-young and that had to stay with her as the mother of his child.

No matter how much she thinks about it, she can’t understand why two people would stay together out of responsibility for a baby, Se-ra says. “What’s the meaning behind that when there’s no love involved?” Ouch.

“Are you okay living like that?” Se-ra asks, tears welling up in her eyes. Mi-young can hardly hold back her own tears as Se-ra continues, “I for one, would hate it and be miserable. It’s probably the same for Gun.”

As the ladies walk out, Se-ra asks that Gun doesn’t know about this meeting. Mi-young agrees. Se-ra bumps into Daniel (who had been waiting the whole time) accidentally, and the camera rests on a scar on her shoulder. He asks Mi-young who that was and asks if she’s all right, and Mi-young slaps on a brave face.

It isn’t any easier for Se-ra, whose mother slaps her right across the face upon greeting. “Does it hurt?” she asks her daughter, then scolds her that they have to get to the airport. Mi-young and Daniel happen to witness the exchange, and Se-ra bows out in shame, fighting tears.

Back at Daniel’s cafe, he tells Mi-young that she’ll only have a more difficult time with Gun in her current mood. She’ll bottle her feelings again, and it’s always been on her to deal with issues in their marriage inwardly, Daniel points out.

He doesn’t know exactly why he’s getting so angry, but he is—angry with Gun for putting her in these situations and also himself for being completely helpless. Mi-young says it’s nobody’s fault. Daniel insists that she stay and eat before she leaves, or else he’ll be upset with her as her neighborhood oppa.

But when Daniel returns with food, he finds Mi-young passed out, asleep. “Why do you keep trying to take the difficult path? I want to stop seeing you get hurt.”

Later that evening at Lee Manor, Gun calls out for Mi-young and checks every nook and cranny, only to find the house empty. Awww, he even calls her an affectionate “Dal-peng-ah!” (Snail). When his calls go unanswered, he wonders if Mi-young is still with Daniel.

Even Gun’s imagination taunts him as he envisions Mi-young dancing close with her “neighborhood oppa” Daniel, who sends Gun a thumbs-down sign.

Infuriated, Gun rises from his seat: “Neighborhood oppa! Surrounding oppa! All the oppas she knows—must get rid of them all!” HA. Once he calms down, he notices the painted mug of Keddongie on the table.

Mi-young arrives home to see Gun waiting for her outside, pacing with worry. Reminded of her conversation with Se-ra, Mi-young slaps on a smile. When Gun starts yelling at her for making him worry and staying out so late, Mi-young wraps her arms around him.

It catches Gun off-guard, and he asks if this is some aegyo tactic to soften him ’cause it won’t work. But Mi-young latches onto him and apologizes—she had some business to attend to. “I won’t make you worry again.”

Gun says he can’t give in this easily, but then hugs her back anyway. Awwwww, you softie.

After making rounds at the laboratories regarding their potential new collaborative project, Gun and Daniel go out for drinks, where they go shot for shot and make their dislike for each other crystal clear. Today’s that day they’re going to hash out their beef with one another, and Gun says there’s a boundary one must never cross. “I’d like for you to draw a clear boundary between you and my wife.”

“What am I to do?” Daniel returns. “I think I already stepped on that line.” Gun warns that Daniel could lose a leg at this rate, to which Daniel says that Gun should have treated Mi-young better before he crossed that line ’cause it’s too late now.

With that, both men go shot for shot again, and I’m sitting here thinking, “You don’t drink Scotch.” But Gun downs the glass, albeit painfully, before Daniel does.

How adorable—Gun is practically giddy at the thought of having lunch with “our snail,” only to be slightly confused when it’s just plain rice today. He’s hardly disappointed, though, and tells Mi-young that he’d like for her to accompany him to the company auction tomorrow, promising to treat her to dinner. Oh, and there’s something he’d like to give her, too.

Mi-young runs into her old boss (and Gun’s lawyer) Lawyer Hong, who cautiously tells her that he knows about the divorce papers. To be frank, he’s about to meet Gun because his client wants to revise the contents. Again, Mi-young puts on a brave face and thanks him for his concern.

While cleaning up at home, Mi-young stumbles upon the cufflinks given to Gun by Se-ra. She hastily puts it back when Mama Yong swings by and scoffs over the baby’s name of Keddongie. She tells Mi-young that it’s fine to go empty-handed to tomorrow night’s auction since Gun will bring something expensive anyway.

Alone again, Mi-young receives a text from Lawyer Hong saying that she should go ahead and sign the revised divorce papers once she gets them. Seeing the message is disheartening, but if Gun’s earlier meeting with his lawyer is any indication, I think we can hope that he’s made some positive revisions instead.

Mi-young arrives at Mom’s restaurant in time to hear her rip into Mr. Choi for accepting money from Gun to pay for this property. She can hardly believe what she’s just heard, and Mr. Choi doesn’t see taking money from a rich relative as such a big deal. Plus, he and Mi-young are happily married, right?

Wrong. Hearing this is the last straw for Mi-young, who bursts into tears right then and there. “No, it’s not right! How could you accept that money from that person? There’s nothing more I can take from him—no, I can’t! What am I supposed to do if you accept that money?”

Mom asks if something’s the matter, but Mi-young cries into her mother’s arms, tears streaming down her face. Poor thing. Then Mi-young takes out the original divorce papers in Gun’s man cave, a pen in her hand. Oh no—don’t sign those!

Mi-young arrives at the company auction that evening, where she’s tapped on the shoulder by none other than Daniel. He asks where her escort is tonight, and she says she’s okay without one. She insists that she’s fine when he asks if something’s wrong, and so Daniel personally offers his arm, saying that she’ll draw attention to herself if she heads in alone.

The auction begins inside, as bids fly left and right for the various items. Somewhere in the back, Mama Yong muses at how Mi-young doesn’t know a thing. Uh oh, a thing about what?

And then the host announces that the next item was provided by Mi-young herself, to her surprise. Just then, her painted mug of “Keddongie” is brought in, which sparks murmured whisperings and laughter among the crowd. Adding to the humiliation, the starting bid is at a measly 10,000 won (as compared to the millions of won the other items have fetched).

Needless to say, this is all Mama Yong’s doing, and so the bidding process begins. Mi-young is simply confused, and Gun looks back at Mama Yong. Then the first bidder calls out: “One million won.”

It’s Daniel, who introduces himself to the audience and says that cup has a refreshing charm about it. Much like how a charming actress is adored more than someone who’s just a pretty face, Daniel claims that this is the kind of art that moves people’s hearts, hence why he wants it.

Gun applauds the speech, and adds his own two cents: “I know that artist personally, and that person is very considerate to others, meticulous, and a very kind person. When you look at that piece, you can see the artists’ feelings in it. And on that note… we’ll start with 3 million won.”

It’s an astonishing amount (around three thousand dollars), but that gets the ball rolling and the bids steadily rise. And then Daniel calls, “Five million.” Not if Gun has anything to say about that, as he returns, “Seven million.”

Now this bidding war has turned personal, and Mi-young urges Gun to stop. But he won’t let their Keddongie fall into someone else’s hands, and ends this back and forth with a final bid: “30 million won.”

And although winning back the mug should make her happy, Mi-young looks even more dejected than before and walks out. Gun catches her outside and asks what’s wrong, picking up on the sadness written on her face. “I felt like a fool,” Mi-young replies.

He thinks it’s because they nearly lost that Keddongie mug, and promises to hunt down and punish the ones who put it there to humiliate her. Aw. “It was the first time I thought I wanted to be greedy,” Mi-young confesses, tears in her eyes.

Mi-young: “The better you treated me, I unknowingly became greedier. As we kept living like this, I somehow thought that I’d be able to remain by your side with Keddongie, so I wondered if it was okay to dream for an ordinary kind of happiness like others have. Just like that, I started dreaming of an impossible dream on my own. But I think I know for sure now—that I was only like an unwelcomed guest in your life, always causing you trouble. Lee Gun-sshi… let’s stop.”

Oof. Gun’s expression remains stoic throughout Mi-young’s entire speech, his jaw tense. When Mi-young turns to go, he grabs her arm and pulls her back. Now there are tears in his eyes too, as he responds: “Kim Mi-young, Kim Mi-young, since when were you so selfish?”

“What about me?” Gun asks softly. “What about my feelings? The more you tell me not to care, the more I do. I feel uneasy if I can’t see you. When you laugh, when you cry—what about my heart that laugh and cries along with you?”

“Don’t you get what I’m saying?” he asks, but Mi-young shakes her head no. “But you’ve always made me confused. Because you always treat me so well, I keep forgetting the fact that we’ll part.” Mi-young replies.

In the softest whisper, she adds, “I’m scared… that I won’t want to leave you; that if it isn’t you, it can’t be. Then I… it can’t be…” And then Gun swoops in to kiss her.

COMMENTS

HELL YES. Somebody pinch me and tell me I’m not dreaming. I’m honestly amazed at how Fated continues to floor me with each passing episode showing something even more magical than it did beforehand. As much as I loved the romantic fireworks display in the previous episode, I love this kiss even more than the last one (it also doesn’t count in my book) to the point that I’m seeing fireworks. *fans self*

In that regard, this episode felt like a bungee cord as we watched Mi-young let those doubts about her relationship with Gun slowly creep into her mind; that everything about this marriage could be too good to be true. How Prince Charming felt obligated to stay with the commoner because of their equally ordinarily-named unborn child, and not out of love. It almost felt too easy that Se-ra’s words affected Mi-young so, but then I recalled how Mi-young was already fearful about how great Gun was and is to her. Because no hero could be that perfect of a husband and soon-to-be father, right?

But the thing is: Gun is that perfect and continuously showers our heroine — his snail — with affection and devotion. I giggled whenever Mi-young failed to pick upon his tiny hints, and their blissful married life left me grinning from ear to ear. His adoration for her is so plainly written on his face, that it was painful to see Gun so hurt by Mi-young’s request to end things between them. And because he so wants to make her happy and be there with her through thick and thin, he doesn’t even know why Mi-young is upset again.

Which brings me to Mi-young’s tearful confession at the end of this hour. There were times in this episode where I was nearly felt frustrated with Mi-young whenever she bottled her feelings in for everyone else’s sakes but hers, trying to convince herself that everything was fine when she we wasn’t. Hearing her speak the words broke my heart all over again, especially what Mi-young yearns for is something so simple: happiness with Gun and their child. What I loved about this turn was that unlike last time, Mi-young mustered up the courage to open up to him about her confusion, of her fear that they might part.

I find myself replaying the moment Mi-young whispers just how much her feelings scares her—there’s something so vulnerable about that moment that I can’t help but admire about Mi-young. But then I rest assured that whenever she tries to be the post-it that could eventually fall away, Gun reminds her to be the superglue forever bound to him.

Once again, I will be tired at work all day today because I set my alarm for 3 AM to watch this show with subs. However, every time I yawn, there will be no regret because it will remind me of this show and how wonderful Mi Young and Gun are together. If I loved in this world, I would probably just follow them around, lulled by the cuteness and the warmth of their love.

I am not sure that understand the problem people are having with Daniel and Mi Young. He doesn't realize why he is getting so mad. He is starting to like her more than an Oppa, but to him she is this sister he wants to protect. I think it is going to be very painful to him once he realizes that he does like her more than as a brother, but he is not going to let her be bullied, and he is going to support her. He knows that she is starting to care for her husband more and more, and he watches her and supports her. he knows all her secrets and falls for her because she is so genuine

Also, no one commented on the salmon colored suit he wore to the auction. Not just a jacket people, but vest and pants. I laughed out lout when he showed up and Gun in all black with a red bow tie.

And Mi Young's clothes. There should be a special shout out to her. I have loved everything she has been wearing. She is not sporting the panty-swiping short skirts that are fashionable but not her character; however, she is never dowdy looking to me. I have loved all her longer skirts, and I really liked her white suit at the auction. They really seem to color coordinate them well. It actually reminds me of Full House Thai with the color coordinating clothes of the main characters that worked well with each other and looked good against the background. These and the references to past shows make me admire the attention to detail this show's production company has. Bravo to everyone involved.

I noticed that also. She is well dressed, but does not resort to the all too common hemline up to her bellybutton skirts to look good. I was amazed at how good the white suit looked on her, it would not fit a lot of girls, but she made it stand out.

Isn't it fun and refreshing to watch a drama where for each of the main leads all of the styling and color choices are pleasing and symbolic; really able to convey the mood of the story; and the color-coordination works well against the background and settings for where the story is taking place.

I can completely understand Mi Young because I feel about this show the way she feels about Gun. I feel greedy wanting more. I feel as though I won't be able to let go properly when the time comes. I am tempted to end it now before I get in too deep because of the fear of disappointment. Really, her whole ending speech was like what I want to say to FTLY and then this show gave us viewers all a kiss. What will Mi Young do now? What will we all do?

Really, if this show were a person, I would marry it.

I think that is what people are misreading, Daniel wasnt trying to stake claim to Mi-Young, if anything he was daring Gun to. Like at he art show when he hugged her, it was all to provoke Gun into claiming Mi-Young as his. Compare the way he acts towards her when they are alone to when Gun is present or when its just Gun vs Daniel...its all to make sure Gun knows how special MY is and that if he cant step up there are a million other guys who would be happy to. And it works, its with Daniel's presence that Gun really started thinking of MY as his woman before that she was the really sweet girl carrying his baby, now she is that desirable woman that he has to fight for.

Hi Blue, I agree with you.. I also don't see Daniel as someone who would intervene in a marriage especially since he knows Mi Young's heart.. He clearly knows she is falling really hard for Lee Gun. He is also decent enough of a person to advise a newly wed woman who might have misunderstood her husband return home. What more now that he can see that Lee Gun is already seeing Mi Young as a desirable woman in addition to being the mother of his offspring.

That song is apparently still not available >_< It's My Girl, by VIXX's Ken. This is the 2nd time they play it, Daniel being there in both scenes. It's probably too early for this, but I'm gonna go ahead and call it "Daniel's Theme" :D

She doesn't. If she did, if she knew already, she wouldn't have left the auction and the kiss would've been delayed a bit. It's a good thing our snail is a little slow then.

seems some kind of unwritten rule, if you have Jang Nara, then find some reason to stick her in a school uniform...

Isn't that picture from her previous show with him? I can't tell for sure. And on Google images, out of some 2,000 that is the only one where she is in a school uniform.

BTW, interesting note on Wikipedia about her early career: "... SM Entertainment dropped her due to assumptions that she would have lesser or no popularity than the other competing artists.."

I wonder how SM feels now :P

lol yes that been rated as the worse pick by a production company up with the one where IU was passed over by a company.
SM pretty much blocked her during her time there, not that she was with them very long, in favour of BOA, who while only 15/16 had already had her debut and done well, so guess they thought there was no room for two cute themed girl singers. Indeed they even tried to push JN in a girl band and then cut her contract just before her debut album was due to be made and put out the infamous 'assumptions that she would have lesser or no popularity than the other competing artists' statement. Of course Jang Nara went on to pop princess fame back up by the mega hit drama Bright Girl and for a time was about the biggest thing in Korea.

What I like about this show is that no one is a bad person so far. Everyone is just trying to do the best they can. I never saw the Taiwanese version, but from what I gather from the comments, the Gun character in that was mean. Here, Gun isn't it mean at all. He's just a really high strung sweet guy. You get why Mi-Young cares for him, and you get why Se-Ra is so devastated. Speaking of Se-Ra, she isn't a bad guy at all either. She's just some girl who is trying to get her bearings after her longterm boyfriend, who she definitely loved, suddenly got married out of the blue. If I were her, I'd probably be wondering what the hell just happened too. Even in her meeting with Mi-Young, she just seemed like she was trying to understand why this had happened. Se-Ra for sure took him for granted but that's not a crime. Learning that relationships require mutual maintenance is one of those life lessons that everyone has to learn. As viewers we can see that Gun is the kind of guy who really needs someone to be there for him emotionally, so Mi-Young is definitely the better fit, but that doesn't make Se-Ra a bad guy.

1) As much as I love Daniel's cocky smirk (and trust me, I LOVE it), someone please explain to me why hw thinks it's ok to hit on a married woman in front of her husband. I get that he's operating under the premise that they will be divorced in a few months.... so why not just wait a few months instead od being kind of a creep?

2) I was so mad at Gun for backtracking on his confession and at Mi Young for letting him. I understand why Mi Young needs to hold back to protect herself but Gun needs to just come out and tell her if he wants her to stay.

3) Mi Young needs to stop being so dense and understand what Gun is trying to show her instead of listening to everyone else. Who is more credible, the jilted ex and the unprofessional lawyer or the man you actually live with?

4) Sera asked the question I've been trying to figure out for weeks. How does this marriage make any sense? In what way does getting married for the duration of the pregnancy and divorcing immediately protect the baby? I do think today Gun's original intention was to try his best at a "real" marriage and he changed it up once he realized he'd been drugged. But why is Mi Young acting like this is what they agreed upon when they talked about it on the island and talking about it line it's a completely reasonable plan? It does literally nothing for the baby except possibly ensure that it's legitimate for inheritance purposes.

The marriage is, ostensibly, to allow the child to be born with a birthright.

That way, there won't be illegitimate children that will be the successors to the generations of Lee family members who have ruled over the family corporation.

So I figured as much,. But that still doesn't explain why the way they are treating the marriage now is a complete 180 from the way they discussed it when Gun was convincing Mi Young to marry him. I do understand why he changed his tune after the revelation that the soap factory people drugged him and his suspicions that Mi Young was involved... but it seems like he's put all that behind him now. And he's cut it off with Se-Ra, as well (we all know she will be back... but they don't know that yet). So, why continue with the "It's Not a Real Marriage" charade? Why revise the divorce settlement if you want her to stay? Why not just rip up the original?

This is why I was really frustrated from the onset of this episode when Gun started hemming and hawing about that (Not A) kiss. If you've changed your mind and you like the girl, just tell her. You're the one who set up the wall between you; so you're the one who's gonna have to bring it down. The whole second half of this episode could have been avoided if he'd of just rolled over and hugged her about 65 seconds in. Then we could have had a full hour of The Adorable.

I know what you mean.

Many, many dramas fall into the trap of trying to maintain a certain path for the characters to take while any reasonable person in similar circumstances would have hashed things out in about 15 mins.

Dramas are like myths, and they try to express fundamentals about a world view, its values, and ideals.

People (myself included) rant about how there is NO WAY that real people would act in such manner or how a simple "excuse me, I am just a random bystander, but even I can see that uou are under a mistaken assumption - allow me to clarify and I will save you and everybody else about 4 drama hours worth of hassle." can solve major plot points.

But dramas are like myths. They simplify and explain, and give a picture of how a tiny portion of life would work if many of the points of reality were just stripped away.

The tugging we feel on our heartstrings is as a result of us amplifying and resonating with those simple ideas.

It is why I love k-dramas. I am happy to indulge.

Love this comment! It actually was really helpful.

Thinking about what you said about a show's world/worldview, the best dramas really are the ones that clearly communicate which facts we're going to ignore. And do it in a compelling way that foresees and validates rational objections, while at the same time diffusing them. This makes us want to go along with a suspension of disbelief.

When a show doesn't do this well we end up feeling manipulated or frustrated by it, start arguing with it, and eventually want to break up with it.

Thanks!

Read it some time ago. I would disagree. Even if he's not consciously trying to woo her romantically, the way he behaves towards her (when Gun is around, at least) is totally inappropriate. There is just no universe where it's OK to imply to a man that you're interested in his wife, even if it's just to spur him to do better. How about you just tell him "Bruh, do better." And that photo shoot stunt should have gotten him punched in the (beautiful) face.

I love this show! I can't remember the last time I found a k-drama delightful!
I love our couple so much. That last conversation especially! I like that this show doesn't resolves most of the misunderstandings quickly and that the leads are having honest conversations about their feelings. I'm curious to see how Gun has changed the divorce contract. I'm hoping it's changed to a marriage contract and we can see them get in the business of being a family!!

The last lines of conversation by KMY I think are really special.

KMY's point - You (LG) are making me confused and scared. While you may be feeling something now, I am not like you and once I fall for someone, there may be no way back for me, and then what will I do if I fall for you and then you turn your back on me...

The word 욕심 means "greed" for sure, but the context turns the word from "greed" to something more like "ambition" or "self-interest." In this context 욕심 is not necessarily a bad thing. What KMY feels is an awakening to protect her own ambition (to be in a loving family relationship with LG and her child).

LG's response is to kiss her, albeit passionately.

But, but that's NOT helpful (yet)!

Sigh.

Love this drama. Gummi and HN2 fighting! Well-done!

Yes! That kiss was great for us but so not helpful to Mi Young!!! Ugh! She still thinks you're kicking her out in a few months! Just tell the girl that you want her to stay! Then, it doesn't matter what Sera or Crazy Mistress or even Daniel says! And we can have 7 more episodes of The Adorable!

Z -

Well, let's talk turkey for a second.

1. How do you know that Gun has stopped loving Sera?

2. If Gun continues to love Sera (and vice versa) then Sera's question "Is it right to marry without love" is perfectly right.

3. Gun feels, obviously, very much jung (정) toward KMY. But is jung (정) enough? Is jung (정) the same as love? I don't think that Gun can answer that question (as of yet). And, just because of jung (정), is that enough to get married?

4. KMY is doing her best. I get that. KMY is not at fault. I get that too. Plus, KMY had to try to protect her friends and family and her island. I get that. And most importantly, perhaps, KMY has to protect her unborn child. Yes, I understand.

But KMY is standing between Sera and Gun. And Sera is asking the question, "is it right for you to stand against love?"

Everyone here on dramabeans and their mothers and brothers and cousins seems to be in love with Gun and KMY (meeeee toooooo) but let's face facts.

Sera was there first. Sera is in love with Gun. And Gun has never stopped loving Sera. Gun did not marry KMY because he loved KMY (they hardly knew each other).

I have to say, maybe KMY SHOULD back off once the baby is born.

I agree that Se Ra was the first, they were in love and Gun did marry Mi young for the sake of the baby!

But I totally disagree with you, that Mi Young should back off once the baby is born. (only if Gun was an asshole, and he did not want anything to do with mi young)
But we know he ain't, he is kind, caring, considerate, mostly he cares about family values, and he wants to make a go with their marriage, he loves the baby, he cares for his Snail, he choose to stick by Mi Young, and closed the relationship door on Se Ra)

Soo I think its a very horrid thing to want to break apart a good family in the making, just because Se Ra was there first!!!!!!! Why would you deprive Poopie of his loving parents being together, for an ex-girlfriend whose career is more important, than her love for her man, and his needs to start a family before he dies of this genetic disease.

The direction the show is going, shows that just because these two married initially without any feelings for each other, over the course of time being with each other, they are sharing the same space, understand each other, starting to understand each others thoughts and feelings, so just because Se Ra was first, doesn't necessarily mean she is the perfect one! We can see the growth, in both Gun ans his snail, they have true feelings for each other.

Se Ra had her chance, she knew he was planning to propose to her, but she decided that he was not enough and her Prima ballerina career was more important that their love....whereas for Mi Young, Guns happiness means more to her than her wants and needs.

I understand that Se Ra is in pain, hurt by all this, but she will find her own true other half one day. Just because one relationship fails, and maybe it wasn't her fault that it happened, but she needs to grieve, then move on with her life....

we have all dated, some of us broke up/parted from our first love or long term relationship, not because we didn't love each other, but sometimes situations or circumstances forces you apart, no ones fault really just that's life, you have to accept and move on.

Fate, time, destiny, circumstances, will all play a part in shaping your life and who you end up with, you can force a situation, but at the end of the day if it ain't meant to be, then you won't be together or find that loving happiness that we all require in our lives.

Man! I think my little rant, about this is over now

Peace to all.... 'Fated to love you' Gun and Mi Young X
;) :0) <3

I am guessing that a lot of people are going by the OTP rule and I myself rarely stray from the OTP.

That said, I think you are assuming facts into existence at this point.

When LG married KMY, he didn't do it because he loved her; he did it because he felt it was the right thing to do. KMY also, she did not love LG; she had her own reasons for going through with the marriage.

At that point, it is debatable whether it is a good idea to have two people who don't know the first thing about the other, to get married and start a family. It could turn out to be the family from hell, and that's clearly not doing the baby any favors.

Of course, taking into account what we as the audience know and what we as frequent drama watchers figure will happen, then yeah, it is a good idea to keep them together.

But, at the time of the marriage, Sera's question is apt.

Why get married when there is no love present? Why deep-six the possibility of LG marrying the woman he loved for so long, for one's own selfish reasons?

Now, you must understand. I am a HUGE JNR supporter and I done my share of battling those that don't share my love of JNR. But in this case, at the time Sera came back, Sera's question was not only fair, but probably quite reasonable.

All that has happened to Sera is that her life that she has dreamed about with Gun has been destroyed. And Sera has nobody to blame.

0

Point taken.

Selfish as SeRa may seem, I wouldn't want to be her. If I were to lose my love of 6 years in such a ridiculous scenario, I'd throw a fit for sure.

We love KMY for the obvious reasons, and she makes an adorable couple with LG, but I think, deep down, we all know this is just not fair to SeRa, regardless of what her next move may be.

We were tricked into blaming her for ruining LG's proposal and putting her career first, but that's a decision many of us would make. I'm sure reuniting with her brother will somewhat make up for the loss she shall sustain, although it doesn't make it right at all.

Second leads deserve happiness as much as the next person, or at least a fair fight. I don't think her joining the Dark Side will make me feel any better, so I'll just look away from her suffering and distract myself with LG/KMY being all cute and goofy. Sorry, SeRa.

I agree on all your points. I think Sera is the most wronged party here. I see a lot of Sera hate in the Viki comments and I'm like "Guys, she hasn't done anything yet except get dumped in the most awful way imaginable. Save it for when she for real crosses over to the dark side." It could be argued that some of her comments to Mi Young were a bit hurtful, but I give her the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't her intention and she's truly shell-shocked and trying to make sense of it all.

My mention of her above was merely a reference to how her words, along with the words of Daniel and even Lawyer Hong (who is breaching all kinds of confidentiality precepts) are causing Mi Young to vacillate in her approach to Gun. And I agree that the kiss, while awesome for us, does little to clear up her confusion. Which was the point of my comment. If he wants to cancel the divorce and try to make it work with her, he should just tell her instead of just kissing her (but, by all means, kiss her).

Thanks for the recap. The show is a pleasure to watch. It looks as though the two Jangs are really enjoying their on screen time together. When the actors have a chemistry it permeates the story.

The violin version of A Time For Us or the theme from Romeo & Juliet was nice.

The 1968 version of Romero & Juliet , directed by Franco Zeffirelli, and starring Olivia Hussey. I saw it when it came out. As a 9 year old, I fell in love with Miss Hussey, lol

Well worth watching.

Gun-ie's hair! I can't even. He looks like one of my mum's ahjumma friends. *sigh*
The last scene was my favourite of the entire series so far. Not just because Mi Young spoke out about how
she felt, but also because of Gun's reaction to her words.
I was a bit worried that he seemed to be falling for her too quickly, but then I realised that he's been moving towards her gradually ever since the beginning.
Maybe because he's so kind and honourable at heart, he wouldn't have just abandoned her after finding about the baby, but since then he's gone above and beyond and every time he looks at her I could see a little more adoration than the time before. In that sense, I think the writers and the actors are doing a fantastic job because the last scene of this episode felt so natural, not hurried or rushed or abrupt.
Gun may not be in love with her yet, but I think he's almost there. I can't wait for tomorrow's episode. Bring on the cute!

Awesome awesome! This episode was just too good. Its so relieving that they're finally talking about their feelings rather than just mourning in silence. And i totally agree with mom. Where can we find a husband like that??? I guess Gun is the only one of the kind.
I love how their relationship is progressing. I've never seen any relationship be portrayed this well in any drama so far.
Pdnim, you're totally daebak! We love you.

I am in the minority (only one) who actually LIKES Jang Hyuk's hair. I think it matches Lee Gun's character; it's foppish and dandy and I LOVE it. Okay, add to the fact that I'm a sucka for thick, long(ish) hair and there you have it folks. Give me Man-Fun-Bun any day of the week... wrap it up, I'll take it.

With that being said, this episode is so stinkin' good! Aw the restaurant scene has to be my fave. These two with the fanning and the wiping of the sweat; Ah-dor-rah-ble!
I'm happy they've all moved to Seoul just so unni MiSook and Manager Tak can get together Lol!

The photoshoot was ridiculous and I laughed so hard watching these two act like idiots. And yeah MiYoung was loving it. Agreed, Who wouldn't? According to the translation on Viki , JiYeon says, "Jesus, why is the water so good?" THAT had me rolling. I would've been confuzzled by all the hotties in the room, too.

I really am enjoying how this relationship is developing. MiYoung wanting to fully commit but holding back because she's dreading the day she has to let Gun go. Gun struuuugling to keep his hands to himself (a HOOT) because he's attracted to MY. It's really sweet watching him enjoy his married life. It's like they're compelled to be together despite the looming "divorce".

Other Highlights:
-Dr. Moon telling him to skedaddle and go to work. I love their bickering and the fact that Dr. Moon's face is shaped like a full Moon (so cute!)
-Daniel passing on the product "sample". Ha!
-When she bursts into tears at Mom's restaurant; the ONLY reason I didn't cry is cause I was watching at work (on a lunch break). Otherwise....
-The Last Scene. Life, I say. It gave me Life.

I've always suspected that SeRa was Daniel's sister. One, because it would be difficult to find your sister if her name has been changed and is now all over the place living the life of a dancer. Two, because of their interaction on the plane. Aside from the SR's snarky remark of liking guys the polar opposite of DP, she was throwing the kind of shade a little sister would when her brother was trying to score. That makes it even funnier in that light.

And let's all give a round of applause to Triflin' Step Mom. Everything she does gets foiled and only serves to bring them CLOSER together. I would love it if it turns out HER kid isn't legit. Heeelarity.

I ALSO like Gun's hair.

What's not to like?

It's stylish. It's not a frizz bomb like on Dr. Stranger, and it is neatly kept.

My wife was like, "Woah.... what's that on his head" but I hardly noticed.

Leave Gun's hair alone!

Though, I'm still a bit put off by some of Gun's more over the top breakdowns, I've come to like him, actually, up until NEXT episode (which I will not spoil so no worries) I was thinking that I actually enjoyed this version more than the taiwanese version.... BUT, it would seem that for SOME unbelievable reason this show is heading into shark infested territory and it's a real shame since it wouldn't make sense IF it does what I think it's going to do...especially since it's loosely based on another drama... how can you run out of ideas why throw in one of the worst tropes? I do admit I'm getting a bit ahead of myself, but with already another of my dramas jumping shark this week I'm sad that this one might be as well.

I really don't get why dramas that start off strong seem to have this weird hiccup like the writer just forgets how to writer lol :P I know sometimes that things are switched up based on ratings, but I don't know. Anyways, I can't say that I'm surprised that our couple can't stay happy for long, that's just what happens in dramas, I just hope that it navigates safely through the shark infested waters and if it doesn't take a detour at least gets creative with the direction it takes.
