Han Jung-soo cast as Iron Man’s loyal bodyguard

Why does a man covered in knives need a bodyguard, you might ask? It’s a good question. Maybe he’s not so good at controlling his new knife-sprouting abilities and needs a babysitter? Han Jung-soo has joined the cast of KBS’s new supernatural drama Iron Man, where he’ll play Lee Dong-wook’s faithful secretary-bodyguard who goes everywhere he goes. The press releases are already hinting at the bromantic chemistry to come, so I expect lots of cuteness.

Iron Man stars Lee Dong-wook as the hero whose internal scars from his painful first love manifest as blades sprouting from his body, and Shin Se-kyung plays the angelic woman who helps heal his pain. Han Jung-soo has been cast as Secretary Go, a former naval officer with specialties in hapkido and taekwondo, who serves as Lee Dong-wook’s right-hand man.

The character is described as a square, which sounds cute. He’s innocent and trustworthy, and no matter how much Lee Dong-wook berates him, he takes it all and treats his boss with sincerity. He gets the job done at any cost and protects the hero from everything, and is willing to sacrifice himself to always put the boss first. Han Jung-soo is especially good at these types of roles — the stoic but faithful brother in arms. He’s had memorable roles in Arang and the Magistrate, Poseidon, and Prosecutor Princess among others, but I’ll always think of him as his gruff, lovable Chuno character.

I have to say, this drama has me more worried than excited, but this relationship could be splendid. I hope the sidekick isn’t the best thing to come out of the drama, but hey, sometimes the bodyguard really does deserve all the glory in dramaland. That’s the way I like it anyway.

Iron Man follows Joseon Gunman in early September.

LMAO, I'd pay good money to see that. Here's hoping the bromance will flourish. Oiling involvement would be icing on the cake.

"and Shin Se-kyung plays the angelic woman who helps heal his pain. "

Why yes of course. That the the only cure for man painnnn.

She would have to be VERY angelic to put up with a man who sprouts knives whenever he gets agitated. Particularly since, you know, a lot of women here seem to find Wookie rather "agitating."

I am not watching this sort of plot. But will probably pop by soompi. Something tells me with these 2 male leads - there be a lot of gratuitous abs scenes.

So funny...my first thought was "why does a man covered in knives need a bodyguard?" I laughed so loud when I saw it was also the first line of the article. But really though, why does he.

Maybe the character is going to be more Edward Scissor Hands than Wolverine?

Just a guess or maybe observation, but every character has some sort of vulnerability. Superman and kryptonite, for example.

Well, there's always rust. Not very sexy or badass, though, or quick, for that matter. But it can change lives. Ask the Tin Man.

True, but with super heroes the usually have people that fight along side them, not bodyguards. I probably was thinking more wolverine, but even with Edward Scissorhands he accidentally caused injuries. Not that I attack people, but if I did I'd want them to have no sharp surfaces.

Shin Se Kyung I'ts The Worst Actress In Korea, I'm So Sorry For Lee Dong Wook, But That Girl Can't Act.
I Have The Same Bad Feelings Like "When A Man Loves" And I Don't Like That.

I don't know whether she really is the worst actress in Korea, but I never hate a female lead as much as I hate her character in When A Man Falls in Love. She ruins that drama for me.

I honestly don't know whether its her character or is it because the actress herself who fails to grab my heart. But after watching her in WAMFIL I'm not confident I'll like her here. I can't even imagine her as angelic.

I thought I'm the only person who dislike her since HK2! I was okay with her till I read she suggested the ending and I was like, noooooooo. N I don't like how she has only 1 expression.

I see that I'm not the only one reminded of Eun Shi-kyung! The character sounds really sweet and maybe it'll be the best thing to come out of this drama.

I'm so out, but I'm actually quite excited to see the verdict tbh. It sounds ridiculous on paper but it may just work on screen. The expectations are rock bottom so all they can go is up from here... I think.

oooh I've seen him in so many things but you're right that his Arang and Chuno characters were really memorable - he looks good in non-conventional sageuk clothes!

btw, peaking of upcoming castings, I read somewhere that Pinnochio (next project for the writer and PD of I Hear Your Voice) is courting Lee Jong-seok and Park Shin-hye for leads, with an air date set for November. I'd love the pairing but I'd also love it more if some of my rookie actress faves get a shot at female lead instead. (hint: Lee Yubi!)

I wish Han Jung Soo had been cast as the lead~ when he hurts, I hurt (in a good way). I love Wookie, but he needs some acting lessons to help him express pain and anger in a more natural way, so I have my doubts about him in this role. At least he's bound to be a 1,000 times better than Shin Se Kyung.

May the bromance (and abs) make it all worthwhile!

I can not understand this drama, like what the purpose they will make out of flying knifes? I mean every supernatural ability need to be advantage-able(I don't know if it's the right word, but you get what I mean) at least for the person who have it. even in fantasy world. So I'm really curious about that.
I don't want to judge a drama based on its plot before the execution process even start but whenever I see the title I always end up imagining some knife flying everywhere, and try not to laugh. The amazing thing about the plot is I forget about Shin Se Kyung being the female lead.

*I'm still learning English, and I have a huge, major problem with the grammars :). Feel free to correct me if you want,it will help me a lot.

Hi MedMe,

In general, your English is quite good! Since you asked, here are a couple of suggestions for you:

1) Practice conjugating verbs in the simple present, especially use of the "s form" for 3rd person singular (he/she/it). (This is a very common problem area.) For ex:

"at least for the person who has it"
"before the execution process even starts

2) Review rules for plural nouns.

knife ➡ knives
grammar, not grammars (it's a non-count noun)

3) Check out englishpage and englishclub (dot com)~ they're both good sites for learning English.

Good luck!
