Jeon Ji-hyun, Joo Ji-hoon save lives in tvN drama Jirisan

New stills, featuring Jeon Ji-hyun (Legend of the Blue Sea) and Joo Ji-hoon (Hyena, Kingdom 2), have been revealed for upcoming mystery drama Jirisan. Taking place on the second-highest mountain peak in South Korea, Jirisan is a high-stakes survival mystery about hikers.

Jeon Ji-hyun and Joo Ji-hoon play park rangers who search for and rescue people who may have been lost or injured on the mountain. With the foggy backdrop and anxious expressions on our protagonists’ faces, the newly released stills below exude a sense of gravitas and urgency. The silly one above is apparently the actors having fun while between takes.

While this may not be my go-to genre, I’m loving the casting lineup which also includes extremely talented veteran actors like Sung Dong-il (Somehow Family), Kim Young-ok (The King: Eternal Monarch) and Oh Jung-se (It’s Okay to Not Be Okay). The writer and director team is also top-notch, so it’s almost guaranteed to be a success. *crosses fingers*

tvN’s Jirisan, written by Kim Eun-hee (Kingdom) and directed by Lee Eung-bok (Mr. Sunshine), will be broadcast in 2021, and for international audiences, it will be available through the OTT platform iQIYI.

I want to see this one some much. Leads in their late thirties, is a nice change.

Seconded about mature leads. I can't recall seeing Jeon Ji-hyun (so much for abbreviating to the leads' respective initials) in a non-comedic role, but I am looking forward to this based on charisma alone.

Forest and park rangers!!!!!!!!! I am still suffering from trauma induced by Forest and Search did not help me at all. I am going to avoid all dramas based in forest till fellow beanie provide any positive response.

But Search was fun! Terribly, awfully and painfully bad, YES, but it was fun... or something 🤣🤣🤣

It was mostly something. I just remember headache inducing green blur. Nothing made sense and that ending. Without that ending I would have agreed with your sentiments.

It kinda looks like an advertisement for The North Face or other sport brand.

But I'm happy for the new theme and surroundings for a drama.

Not IQiyi again their dramas are always limited to certain regions even when they say world wide. I want to watch this badly!

Isn't the director also the director of Netflix's Sweet Home?

Yay more Joo Ji Hoon! First love. Got started in this whole k-drama business because of him in Princess Hour. I'm glad he got the role in Kingdom. It definitely revived his scene in the drama world.

I know! I hate the iQIYI app. It is sideways on my ipad before you play the show and the search doesn't work. I can't imagine they get anywhere near the exposure on that app they get on Netflix. It seems like a very bad route to go.

Right. Another drama I was looking forward to but won’t be watching.
My understanding is that iQIYI has exclusive broadcasting rights outside South Korea.

It's hard to imagine that this would not be good with these two leads. Jeon Ji-hyun looks so different to her usual image in this, and I'll take Joo Ji-hoon however he looks, and he looks intense in this. Sure Forest was a frustrating watch, but the forest itself had its own presence and was beautiful. Mountains have such significance in Korea that I can't have enough of them. I'm now wondering what sort of vibe Jirisan will have as a mystery drama. It may be full of an unutterable presence...

Oooo!!! I am excited for this one. And JJH looks great in these stills (even though I miss his beautiful forehead). Where is Oh Jung-se stills!!
I would have liked to see this on Netflix. iQiyi would do the whole VIP thing and I have to pay more. Also, I am not too thrilled about their video quality (may be it was the dramas I watched, I find the quality inconsistent).

I find the quality terrible and will give this one a pass because of that.

As a geologist I'm excited that Kdramas will enlarge career options beyond working in high heels and tight suits on the 60th floor of a big city building. Even if it is just a mountain rescue team/danger rangers, I am looking forward to learning how Koreans connect to mountains. Netflix missed out on Do You Like Brahms so I think they will be looking at smaller gems (and avoiding bloated big shows?).

“ I am looking forward to learning how Koreans connect to mountains.”

It would be just wonderful if the show did Present that!

Eh, they have same initials: JJH and JJH
With female JJH for some reasons, I never get connected. Even with My Sassy Girl.
Male JJH however, is always one of my favorite boys in KDrama, since Princess Hours days.
I will try to collect some of my patience with IQYI to check this one out.

I have yet to watch a drama with Jeon Ji-Hyun (just movies), so maybe this will be my chance!

That first picture almost looks comedic, so now i'm wishing for an action-comedy with those two.

The writer is known for her dramas in the mystery/suspense genre. She said she doesn't like to write romance too, and would point you all to the dots/goblin writer if you're looking for that. So don't expect a light-hearted, slice-of-life theme set in the mountains.

Is this the first time that Jeon Ji-Hyun will be in a serious drama? I can't wait!
