So Ji-sub to make drama comeback in MBC suspense drama

After focusing on films for the last few years, So Ji-sub (My Secret Terrius) is coming back to dramaland in MBC’s new suspense drama Dr. Lawyer.

Taking on the lead role of Han Yi-han, So Ji-sub’s character is a former surgeon who was well known for his skills and intellect. With a great sense of humor and compassionate personality to boot, people often joked that he was too perfect to be human. But one day, everything went downhill.

When a patient suddenly died after a successful surgery, So Ji-sub was framed for the death in a malpractice suit, and he lost his license. Starting his life over, he becomes a lawyer who specializes in medical lawsuits, and is determined to re-open his case and uncover the truth of what really happened.

In a twist of bitter fate, the deceased patient’s only family member is a prosecutor who now heads the department that handles medical crimes. But the prosecutor ultimately teams up with So Ji-sub, and the two make it their mission to help innocent victims and take down the corrupt individuals who believe that money and power can be used to decide who lives and who dies.

Writing for the drama is Jang Hong-chul (Class of Lies) and PD Lee Yong-seok (Haechi, Village: Secret of Achiara) takes the reins as director.

MBC’s Dr. Lawyer is currently working to finalize the rest of the cast and is planned to be 16 episodes with a projected airdate of early 2022.

Both a doctor and a lawyer. Too perfect to be human. This guy might take the genius crown.

I burst out laughing when I read the title "Dr. Lawyer." At least he's not a 25-year-old.

Actually in real life there actually are a few doctors who become lawyers. I also know of at least one lawyer who became a doctor because, as he put it, the human body has not changed significantly in thousands of years (law is always in a state of flux- which is why the skills of a lawyer are so completely different than those of a physician).

I think the lawyers who take care of patent can be engineers too, because it's very technical. So I think that mixing law and another job, it's the weirdest thing.

Again like I noted in the Kim Hee Sun post, MBC is going back to selecting/getting established veterans as their mains. Between So Ji Sub, Kim Hee Sun, and Namgoong Min, I can tell they really want to come back again.

As for this show, its def. in the trend of anti-heroes these days so I guess its ok lol. Tbh, I was looking more forward to So Ji Sub in a Netflix project but he pulled out of the show. It sounded more intriguing too. I guess, loyalty to MBC was the final factor, and he's more old school w/ streaming for now.

I'm rooting for MBC and think it's smart to get established veterans but reading the plots, the only drama that I'd give decent odds to is NGM's.

NGM might get the Daesang, which is prob. a big reason (in my guess) why he decided to do The Veil. That'll make him and Ji Sung, actors in recent years to win both Grand Prizes for SBS/MBC (if that occurs later this yr for NGM).

I'm rooting for KHS's drama! More females in leads where they're powerful/superpowered!! Altho a stronger ML would've been more enticing. Hope MBC has a budget to make the effects look good (dunno if they'll partner up w/ YG Studio Plex or so). Good luck to MBC!

How about making it their mission to come up with original plots?

Can anyone recall a plot involving a lawyer who came from medical background? I don't think so. I will highly give this show a chance as it crosses two genres, making it somethg different. Plus, a drama with a veteran/established actor like him will be ten times better than a drama with an idol/another Song Kang

If a Doctor Detective and a Doctor Prisoner and a Doctor Lawyer teamed up, they would be unstoppable!

Is it weird that I'm just really longing for a So Ji Sub romance? Like pretty, pretty please?

He has done plenty of romances in the past, it is time he plays more mature roles on tv. Plus, romances these days don't do very well in terms of ratings.
