Premiere Watch: 7 Escape: War for Survival

Time slot: Friday-Saturday
Broadcaster: SBS
Genre: Crime, revenge, makjang, thriller
Episode count: 17

Reasons to watch: Long time no makjang… so the creators of the Penthouse series are back with 7 Escape: War for Survival. With a massive and fantastic cast and a wild revenge premise, this drama will surely bring on the shrieks. Because it wouldn’t be right if characters in the drama weren’t screaming, scheming, or breaking things loudly. Led by a platinum-haired Eom Ki-joon, playing an elusive tech CEO who’s got a bat-shit-crazy approach to his revenge, the rest of the cast includes: Hwang Jung-eum, Lee Joon, Lee Yubi, Shin Eun-kyung, Yoon Jong-hoon, and more. Makjang surely ain’t for everyone, but if there’s one thing we can agree on, it’s that the actors and creators have such a great time you can feel their enjoyment through the screen — and even if you don’t care for the genre, there’s something infectious about the fun they’re having.

TL;DR: It’s makjang time!

Whatever it is, it is bound to bring the ratings due to the genre, writer and Uhm Ki Joon....

I've not yet watched a proper makjang, but Lee Joon might just make me dip my toes into the makjang waters....

*twitches while the reverse psychology phenomena begins to take effect*

tbh, I'll probably keep an eye on comments/a potential recap (??) and then will give it a go if it looks like it'll be good drama

Well, I tried and watched 20 minutes: 365 repeat the day meets Penthouse. I was expecting a kimshi slap anytime, and then I told myself... why are you doing this to yourself?

“Makjang surely ain’t for everyone”
I like to watch this type of drama from time to time. They remind me of my favorite types of American series and Latin telenovelas that I watched as a child. I liked "Penthouse" very much because for a long time the "bad guys" were winning. It's a safe type of drama, not serious, with a pinch of salt, where you can root for the evil people because you know that they will receive a severe punishment at the end.

I haven't yet tried a makjang but I find myself intrigued. Do we know where this will be available? That might have as much to do with my decision as anything else.

For this show, I wouldn't be surprised if that happened.

Shin Eun-kyung is the makjang queen. What perfect casting.

Shin Eun-kyung really impressed me with her acting in Penthouse. I was very delighted to learn that she is one of the casts casted in this War of the Survival.

I've seen the first episode. I'm not feeling it. The main characters are evil and unlikeable.

I've liked the previous work of some of the lead actors, but at this time this series isn't giving me a reason to stay with it.

My rule is to watch the first four episodes, but this may be the first k-drama I give up on.
