I really enjoyed Beyond Evil when I watched it a couple of months ago. I do like a good mystery, but I think I avoid them because in my mind they have a higher rate of going off rails towards the end. In rom-coms, it’s easier for me to forgive a bad ending because “well, at least that was cute”, but in thrillers it’s infuriating, “waeee! You had such a great story”. I heard good things from Beyond Evil and it did not disappoint! It is also memorable because I watched it with my sister:)
My sister wanted to spend time with me over her winter vacation and she decided that we should watch a KDrama together since she wanted to cheer me up by doing something I like. On one condition though: it had to be either a thriller/mystery. I’m a rom-com/slice of life girl, but I do enjoy a good story, as long as it is not scary! I had heard of Beyond Evil being a solid drama, so we decided to watch it together. It took us like two months and a half to get through all of it because our schedules never match up and towards the end I could see her getting a little over it, but I could also see that she enjoyed it. Of course, as an avid kdrama watcher I was curious about a lot of things so I asked her.
My Sister’s review on Beyond Evil (spoilers ahead!)
Me: What did you think of it? (Right after it was over)
Her: It was pretty good. Too long for my taste. (I can’t believe this! She rewatches everything! Especially shows that are like 9 seasons long!! In all fairness it is background noise, but still I am over her watching the same thing over and over again, lol😂)
Me: What did you like about it? Dislike?
Her: I liked that I didn’t know what was going to happen next. It wasn’t predictable, so that was cool. I disliked that it was too long. 12 episodes would’ve been better. Also, the whole town development plan was boring and confusing, I don’t care about that.
Me: What was the scene you remember the most?
Her: When we found out the brother (Lee Dong-shik’s Hyung, Kang Jin-mook) was the killer. Also, when the girl (Yoo Jae-yi) threw eggs at him (Han Joo-won). It was funny, lol.
Me: Who was your favorite character?
Her: The butcher girl (Yoo Jae-yi) was pretty cool. She was not a cop, but still part of the team.
Me: Would you recommend this to others? Of the three you’ve seen (Oh My Venus, Squid Game, Beyond Evil) which has been your favorite?
Her: Yeah I’ll recommend it to my friend that watches dramas. Squid Game is still my favorite because it was interesting and didn’t go the way I thought. It was quick to action too.
Me: Any last comments?
Her: Where the romance at tho?
Me: I thought you wanted to watch a thriller not a romantic drama.
Her: But still…lol
Me: Anything else?
Her: I guess I liked his (Han Joo-won’s) character development. They were really good actors, especially the divorced guy that was also in Squid Game (Lee Chang-jin), he was pretty interesting. The twists were good for sure and the reveals as well. It was fun to find out who knew whose secret. The older cop (Lee Dong-shik) was also a good actor too and tricked me various times into thinking he was evil.
Me: So when are we going to watch our next drama?
Her:….
Me:….
Her:……bye
Me. TT.TT
Update: I am still trying to convince her to watch All Of Us Are Dead together.
