Hmm.. The way I understand it, it was the Darkhold taking the reins. During that scene with Charles taking over her head for a while, he found Wanda buried underneath the rubble of her trauma. Wanda wasn’t emotionally stable when she took the Darkhold from Agatha. Plus the epilogue from WandaVision showed her poring over the text almost nonstop. So it’s no wonder the darkness consumed her. After all, Sinister Strange was no different. At least with Wanda, she woke up and realized it herself when she saw the fear on her children’s faces. Which was why she destroyed the throne so the Darkhold can never tempt her again.
