So, mom ran away because police inspector used to beat her up too. She limps. And, Ki hoon basically ran off to his mom. I guess she is married to this new guy and they have a son, rather son from previous marriage (that is N).
This whole age discrepancy is because on purpose they have registered Ki hoon different from his actual age.
