In February 2012, Chanyeol was introduced as a member of the South Korean-Chinese boy group EXO. They officially made their debut on April 8 with the extended play Mama. Their breakthrough came in 2013 with the release of their debut studio album XOXO, which produced the hit single Growl. EXO’s single Monster from their third studio album Ex’Act became their first number one on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart. The group topped Forbes Korea’s Power Celebrity List for two consecutive years in 2015 and 2016. In 2018, the group released their sixth studio album titled Don’t Mess Up My Tempo, which debuted at number 23 on the U.S. Billboard 200.


Chanyeol made his film debut in the 2015 romance dramedy film Salut s’Amour. That same year, he starred in the web series EXO Next Door along with other EXO members and Moon Ga-young. His work in the web drama won him Best New Actor and the Hallyu Star Award at the 8th Korea Drama Awards. In 2016, he acted alongside Chinese actress and singer Yuan Shanshan in the manhwa-based film So I Married an Anti-Fan, which ranked fourth on Weibo’s top 10 films of 2016. In 2018, he played one of the main characters in the promotional web series Secret Queen Makers.


Chanyeol’s older sister Park Yoo-ra is a retired news anchor. He enlisted for his mandatory military service on March 29, 2021.
