EXY was part of the lineup for a girl group called Viva Girls, which failed to debut after its agency went bankrupt. She then joined Mnet’s music competition show Unpretty Rapstar 2 in 2015 but was eliminated before the semi-final round. That same year, she released her first solo single titled Gettin’ Em. In 2016, she debuted with the South Korean-Chinese girl group WJSN with the mini-album Would You Like? featuring the single MoMoMo. Also known as the Cosmic Girls, the 13-member girl group has released several mini-albums and a studio album together.

EXY bagged her first acting role in 2015 in the web series The Flatterer, which was based on the webtoon of the same name. In 2021, she starred in the JTBC music drama Idol: The Coup. In 2022, she appeared in the omnibus horror film Seoul Ghost Story.

EXY majored in broadcasting and entertainment at Dongduk Women’s University.
