Gong Myung debuted with the five-member actor group 5urprise in September 2013 together with Yoo Il, Seo Kang-joon, Kang Tae-oh, and Lee Tae-hwan. Unlike other idol groups, 5urprise began their career with an acting project before showcasing their music. The group’s first project was the 12-episode web series After School: Lucky or Not. 5urprise then released the single Hey U Come On for the drama’s soundtrack. The group also have three single albums together. In March 2020, the group’s five members parted ways with Fantagio after their contracts with the agency ended.


As a solo artist, Gong Myung debuted in the 2013 film If You Were Me 6. He also had a supporting role in the 2015 MBC sageuk Hwajeong. In 2017, he was nominated as Best New Actor for TV at the 53rd Baeksang Arts Awards for the tvN series Drinking Solo. He then took on the lead role in the two-episode KBS2 drama The Happy Loner, opposite Min Hyo-rin. He next starred in the 2019 action comedy film Extreme Job. The movie was a major box-office hit, surpassing 10 million ticket sales in just 15 days. His performance in the film earned him various Best New Actor nominations, including one from the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards.


Gong Myung’s younger brother Doyoung is a member of the South Korean boy group NCT.
