Han Joo-wan started his acting career by appearing in indie short films such as Broken Night in 2010 and Suddenly, Last Summer in 2012. He broke into the mainstream limelight after starring in the top-rating KBS2 weekend drama King’s Family in 2013. His performance in King’s Family as well as in an episode of KBS Drama Special earned him the Best New Actor trophy at the KBS Drama Awards. In 2014, he became part of the main cast of the KBS2 sageuk Joseon Gunman. In 2016, he acted alongside Sohn Ho-joon and Im Ji-yeon in MBC’s Blow Breeze, in which he was nominated for an Excellence Award at the MBC Drama Awards. In 2017, he played a teacher who cares deeply for his students in the KBS2 teen series School 2017.


Han Joo-wan’s sister Han Hee-jung is a singer-songwriter. In 2018, he was found guilty of illegal marijuana use by the Seoul Western District Court. He received an eight-month prison sentence suspended for two years. He was also ordered to undergo 40 hours of drug rehabilitation and pay a fine of ₩3.2 million.
