Jang Ryul first established himself in the theater scene before slowly expanding his acting career to the screen. His first acting credits include the film Master in 2016 and tvN’s My Ajusshi in 2018. He also had appearances in the 2018 dramas Pretty Noona Who Buys Me Food and Lawless Attorney, which aired on JTBC and tvN, respectively. In 2019, he began taking on more significant roles such as in the tvN historical fantasy series Arthdal Chronicles. In 2020, he became part of the second season of tvN’s mystery-thriller Forest of Secrets. In 2021, he rose to prominence when he played an antagonist in the Netflix action drama My Name. In 2022, he joined Jin Seon-gyu and Jeon Jong-seo in the main cast of the TVING disaster-thriller series Bargain.
