Jung Dong-hwan began his decades-long acting career on stage and has bagged multiple awards for his work in that arena over the years. He landed his first television acting role in the 1978 KBS drama Wild Geese, which gave him the Best New Actor trophy at the 15th Baeksang Arts Awards. In 1981, he starred with Kim Hye-ja in the film Late Autumn, a remake of the 1966 melodrama classic Manchu by director Lee Man-hee. He also led the movies Jung-kwang’s Nonsense in 1986 and A Top Knot on Montmartre in 1987. In 1991, he was cast in the hit MBC period drama Eyes of Dawn. In 2000, he joined the popular KBS2 romance melo series Autumn Fairy Tale, which is the first installment of drama PD Yoon Seok-ho’s Endless Love tetralogy. He also became part of its second and fourth installments titled Winter Sonata and Spring Waltz, which aired in 2002 and 2006, respectively. In 2010, he played a supporting role in the MBC sageuk Dong Yi, which won him Best Supporting Actor at the 3rd Korea Drama Awards. In 2019, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 12th Korea Drama Awards for the tvN dark fantasy series Hotel del Luna.


Jung Dong-hwan is married to former singer Jung Yoon-sun.
