In 2019, he portrayed a Math genius in the JTBC coming-of-age drama A Moment at Eighteen. His career breakthrough came in 2020 when he was cast in the hit tvN series Start-Up. In 2021, he starred in the tvN fantasy romantic comedy My Roommate Is a Gumiho.
Kim Do-wan graduated from Kaywon High School of Arts and continued his studies at Sejong University.
