Taecyeon debuted as the main rapper of the South Korean boy group 2PM in 2008 after participating on Mnet’s Hot Blood Men. In 2009, the group’s second single album 2:00PM Time for Change spawned the top-charting single Again and Again. The group later won Artist of the Year and Best Male Group at the 2009 Mnet Asian Music Awards. In 2017, Taecyeon held his first solo concert in Japan as part of his activities for the release of his first solo Japanese album called Taecyeon Special: Winter Hitori.


Taecyeon made his acting debut in the 2010 KBS2 series Cinderella’s Sister, in which he was nominated for Best New Actor at the KBS Drama Awards and the 47th Baeksang Arts Awards. In 2011, he became part of the main cast of the hit KBS2 series Dream High. In 2013, he landed his first film role in Marriage Blue, which earned him a nomination for Most Popular Actor at the 50th Baeksang Arts Awards. In 2014, he starred in the KBS2 weekend drama Wonderful Season, which scored him two Excellence Award nominations. In 2020, he was nominated for a Top Excellence Award at the MBC Drama Awards for his performance in The Game: Towards Zero. In 2021, he acted alongside Song Joong-ki in the well-received tvN dark comedy series Vincenzo.


Taecyeon’s family moved to Massachusetts when he was 10 years old. He stayed there for seven years before returning to South Korea to pursue his entertainment career. He gave up his American citizenship and underwent shoulder and arm surgeries to be able to enlist as an active-duty soldier. He began his mandatory military service in September 2017 and was discharged in May 2019. In 2020, he confirmed that he is in a relationship with a non-celebrity.
