I know some beanies love Chocolate (sorry, beanies), but to me it has been the first drama disappointment of the year.
I expected a healing drama with an epic love story, was enthralled by trailers and posters, but… here’s my rant:
(warning: some spoilers):
– too many tragedies. Cha-young losing her sense of smell and taste was really too much.
– Kang and his family were too old-style (a little makjang-ish).
– I couldn’t buy Cha-young’s love for Kang. Their brief encounter when they were children wasn’t enough to me. I would prefer Cha-young had this precious, dear memory of Kang, and would fall in love with him as an adult. Plus, I didn’t like the way Kang treated her for most of the story. If I were her, I would run away from him once and for all.
– The thing that disappointed me the most was the fact that the show betrayed itself. I had really liked its message: live your life to the fullest, don’t lose an instant, because you’re alive now.
So, the way the FL runs away felt so anticlimatic. I don’t know if the writer needed to fill some episodes, if they wanted the usual separation befor the ending, or the scene with the hero searching for his love in a foreign, beautiful country, but I didn’t like it. At all.
OST, cinematography and Joon were beautiful, though.
I am so on the fence about this one. It idles on my watchlist, and yet I always choose something over it. It is worth watching with my friend FF? Or should I just let it melt gently back into ganache?
Honestly, I wouldn’t rewatch and wouldn’t recommend it.
As a story set in a hospice, the drama has its moments, but it can be depressing and boring (I had never fallen asleep while watching a drama!).
About the love story, almost nothing happens till the 11th episode, if I remember well, and even after, I didn’t like some things like the lack of communication between the leads.
I’m always sorry when I wrote something bad about a drama, because I know someone else love it, or watched it when they needed it, so the story is special for them.
I wanted to like this, but we weren’t meant to be.
Haha, Iโm one of those Beanies who loved it but I guess I understand why many donโt.
I love it for the cinematography, music, the melancholy it offers, and I love the leads. ^^ but I should stop watching these kinda dramas to protect my mental health

It’s beautifully filmed, but be prepared for a ridiculous amount of tragedy. If you can handle melo (so not my thing) you might really like it.

I think DYLB has made me a bit gun-shy of melo at the moment. But maybe I’ll feel a little stronger in 2021 – who knows!

In contrast to DYLB many of the side characters are charming.

That is a HUGE plus and potential game-changer.

It’s okay 😊. I, myself, really like Chocolate, but I understand that it might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

It made sense in the context of the drama (head injury).
