Being a C-Drama fan who can’t speak Mandarin sucks. Google Translate subs suck more. Z.Tao’s acting in Forward Forever…yeah…I just want to watch it for Jackson Yi who surprised me last year
Easier said than done for those of us who are native Chinese speakers lol @jenmole 🤣🤣🤣 It’s one of–if not THE– most difficult language to learn for English speakers XD
Korean is no walk in the park either. lol. But Chinese is difficult for different reasons. I think the biggest challenge for me might be the different tones.
Depending on which dialect you’re planning to learn, the number of tones vary— Mandarin, the most spoken language in the world, has 4 tones; Cantonese, the next most common Chinese dialect, has 8 tones
IKR! I can’t decide between Chinese and Japanese. Chinese is more practical because of business, number of speakers, and dramas. Japanese is more anime, culture, and quality of life. Either way, I want to start by next year.
P.S. Will teacher Jenmole help me along the way if I decided to do Chinese? 😉
Oh, I thought you spoke Mandarin given that I thought you watch RAW C-Drama episodes. I don’t know much about the difference between Mandarin and Cantonese aside from what @bebeswtz mentioned.
Well, if I need a Cantonese teacher or help, I know who to ask. 😉
I watch the raws if I really like the show and can’t wait for subs. The fluffy and cute dramas are the ones I understand more coz the conversations are usually easier to understand. I do lose patience if I need to focus more. Usually I’m trying to listen to the conversation and read the subtitles all at once. Converting Mandarin to Cantonese in my brain makes drama watching a lot of work. 😂
I only watched the first 10 minutes or so. The Google Translate subs were really bad. re: Z. Tao’s acting, he was OK in Negotiator. Probably because his acting style went with his character a bit more. Here though, I think it just looks like he overacts. I’ll leave it at that.
