Warm-Hearted celebs share with disabled children

Nine members of the entertainment-world service organization “Tasamo” [따사모, which is short for “Gathering of Warm-Hearted People”] held an event on the 29th in the name of building relationships with the Social Welfare Society. The organization also donated 4 million won’s worth of educational materials for disabled children, including touch plasma monitors.

The members of the organization who attended were “Tasamo” president Lee Kyung-ho and Kim Jung-eun, who is currently acting as promotional representative for the Social Welfare Society, along with Kim Won-hee (Marrying the Mafia 3), Kim Yumi (Return), Ahn Jae-wook (I Love You), Eugene (Three Dads, One Mom), Park Chul (Quiz King), Yoon Da-hoon (Unstoppable Wedding), and Jung Sun-kyung (Catch a Kangnam Mother).

After presenting their donations, the stars spent two hours interacting and playing with the children.

Kim Jung-eun explained, “These disabled children are being educated, but they need a lot of expensive equipment.”

Kim Won-hee: “Sharing in practice is not something you can just do with your feelings. I think true sharing is spending time to make good memories for these kids.”

i am glad to see KJE having some time to participate in this out reach despite her really crazy busy schedule...there is the CHOCOLATE and her upcoming series Gen. Hospital 2 and some product endorsements and other miscellaneous functions such as hosting the Pusan International Film Festival and the Chungmooro International Film Festival in Seoul.

hahaha whatever. I am korean adopted...i spent time in one of these orphanages.

These celebs do it for one thing: so that fans like ones on this site praise them...just like the above comments.

They take like 10 shots of the same pose and when not taking photos, they just go off and text message. It's a photo-op, plain and simple. How many of these celebs go and volunteer when there's no 연합 news with them? zero.

And SWS is in this unholy partnership with the korean entertainment industry...they're pretty famous among the other adoptee orgs (holt, ESWS) for this. The cost for adoption is around 30,000 dollars now..its a business. They benefit from advertising their "product" and celebrities benefit from the good PR. It's like going to Africa and pretending to care...but this way, it's much closer to home!

And don't try to tell me I'm negative and discount my opinion. Like I said, I was one of these kids living here. I've seen how these kids are exploited by everyone; they're abandoned and thus easily used, just like any vulnerable person in life. I was a lucky one...I made it out.

Andrew, thanks for weighing in with your experience. Without having the firsthand experience that you do, I pretty much believe what you've said is right on the money about the intentions behind a lot of these photo ops. I think it's pretty naive to believe everything the media reports, who are basically fed a bunch of press releases that show off celebs in the best possible light. I certainly don't mean to post a pic and gush, "Look at how generous these people are!"

However, I have a different take on the result of these exercises, because these opportunities -- no matter how selfishly motivated -- do have positive benefits, or at least the potential for them. I know it's trite to say, but raising awareness can be a great thing in and of itself, just to let everyday people know that such centers and organizations exist so that if they are ever moved to adopt, those children can be among like lucky ones, as you've termed yourself. I know I've been motivated to act on certain things that I would never have even known about had it not been for a promotional campaign -- often with a celeb as a figurehead to attract notice -- drawing my attention. And that, in my opinion (you're free to disagree), transcends a selfish star's narcissism or opportunistic mugging.
