The beautiful and talented Choi Jin-shil (age 40, most recently of The Last Scandal of My Life) has been found dead in her home in Seoul.
According to police, her body was discovered at 6:15 am on October 2 and the reasons for her passing are under investigation.
Police said, “We received a report that Ms. Choi had committed suicide and arrived to confirm her death.”
Another officer: “This morning, we received a report from her family that she had hanged herself in the shower stall.”
Choi had recently gone through some rough times supporting her friend Jung Sun-hee, widow of deceased Ahn Jae-hwan, and had battled rumors making the recent rounds that said she supposedly had lent him money, which she roundly denied. But what a shock — following a messy divorce with baseball player Jo Sung-min, her two small children, ages 5 and 7, were under her sole care. Note: this is very new information, so reports are bound to change in the coming days.

I still can’t believe it. First, I can’t believe she’s gone and second, I can’t believe it was suicide. Her son and daughter are her whole life. They’re the ones that got her through the divorce and everything. She wouldn’t take herself away from them.

this is by far the most shocking entertainment news i have heard. i mean… i’ve known her for like 20 years and she was the one who withstood all the turmoils in life a person can experience and when she has her dear two children, she commits suicide????? i just cannot believe this news

I don’t know what to say… People need to understand that suicide isn’t the answer. Life can get hard sometimes but you’re only putting people y ou love in pain when you do these things. She still has young children who need her. It’s sad to see a women who I found to be so strong and independent do such a thing. I wish her family the best of luck and whatever the problem was, I hope it will be resolved.
I am shocked to learn of this news. THIS IS REALLY UNEXPECTED. Wouldn’t be the biggest celebrity suicide news considering that she can be considered as one of the famous stars in the entertainment industry? This is saddening.

The effects of money lending (i.e. destroying families, leading many people to commit suicide) is a big, big problem in Korea. This is a real tragedy.

I’ve seen her only in that drama with Ahn Jae Wook and Cha In Pyo,but I’ve read about her struggles — surviving her marriage with an abusive husband, filing for divorce, starring in a new drama once again and getting an award for it, and then having her children’s names added to her own family registry.
I considered her a strong woman and was very happy for her. Reading the title of this blog entry I couldn’t believe it was really the Choi Jin Shil I’ve been cheering for.

I dont want to say that it is a trend but could it be that the suicides indicate something sinister about the Korean Entertainment Industry?

I think korean celebrity has a tendency to follow ppl’s trend to commit suicide, that’s what i read in the newspaper. So the police are very concern that with celebrity commit suiside it will trigger the public to do the same thing when they encountered so difficuties..OMG..,.

I’m honestly still in shock with this. For a mom of 2 young children to even think of suicide as any shape or form of anything… is very beyond comprehension. Is she suffering fr severe depression? Even considering that as a possibility, is there very inadequate patient care or support in that field?
Coz, frankly, though I don’t want to sound cultural insensitive at a time like this. Korean showbiz is the only microcosm in this high a profile with a devastating high suicide rate. It’s alarmingly a social issue that is screaming for attention.
