A Star’s Lover poster released
by | November 12, 2008 | 43 Comments

Posters are out for the upcoming A Star’s Lover, starring weepie queen Choi Ji-woo (in a romantic comedy series this time) opposite Yoo Ji-tae (above, left). I previously noted Lee Ki-woo‘s (above, right) resemblance to his co-star, which I think is pretty strong when they’re standing side by side, although it’s even more glaring when both are smiling widely.

In any case, the drama will be taking over the Wednesday-Thursday position on SBS’s lineup after Painter of the Wind ends. As the article so helpfully points out, we’ve got a rather tall lineup in A Star’s Lover — literally — with Choi Ji-woo’s considerable height (174cm) practically dwarfed by her two leading men, with Yoo at 186cm and Lee at 189cm. (An effort was made to cast tall men alongside Choi.)

The crew of A Star’s Lover left to film in Japan last month; Japan shoots are over and the cast is now back on home turf. The drama premieres December 10.

“In any case, the drama will be taking over the Wednesday-Thursday position on SBS’s lineup after Kingdom of the Wind ends”

    Do you mean Painter?

I actually like Ji Woo-hime, but the two pictures here aren’t especially flattering, to put it kindly. But at least I know now how Seo In Young will look in 15 years.

  2. shro

oh good. i’m not the only one that sees the resemblance. god, its crazy!

  3. Sue

    i think she looks fresh!
but i don’t recall her being so tall in winter sonata..
and i don’t think bae yongjoon is terribly tall right? haha.

  4. Shaenna

They have the same hair style… Either way, both actors are loved in my book, seriously I have a book. Let me get it….. out and,….(flips pages)…. Oh wait, let me pencil this in….. Hahahaha.

  5. ana

^ ahaha.. btw this drama sounds interesting. about seoul univ student is it? and romantic comedy is of coz my fav genre.

  6. javabeans

D’oh, yes it’s Painter not Kingdom. That’s what they get for putting two “wind”y sageuk dramas in the same timeslot.

ana, Yoo Ji-tae plays a professor, so I think the students will be peripheral to the story but not a feature.

  7. ziggy

i think i will have a hard time telling these two guys apart. they can pass as twins!!

i like Jiwoo-hime and Im glad that she has chosen a romantic comedy instead of her usual melodrama. hopefully this series turns out really well!

Yoo Ji tae and Lee Ki woo are cute and omg really tall! Jiwoo hime dwarfs in comparison indeed considering she is a tall woman herself.

  8. Jane

God, Choi Ji-Woo is stunningly gorgeous. (I also never knew she was that tall.)
Seriously, it’ll be hard to find a better-looking cast than that.

  9. cc

    Woah they look stunning!

  10. 10 Diana

    Ah, sounds exciting! I can’t waittt =D

  11. 11 lkl

  12. 12 linh chan

  13. 13 nana

    Lee Ki Woo!!

    Lee Ki Woo!!

thanks for the news… but will there be a 2nd female lead?

  14. 14 ana

ooh.. i thought it is about univ student. tq..

yea they look alike. but i’ll watch for their eyebrows to tell which is which. hehe.

  15. 15 iDAREyou

wud they b playin brothers? coz i wud totally believe it..

  16. 16 Sere

They really do look alike! That’s quite amazing. They should’ve casted them as twins or brothers, imho. They’ve been perfect.

oh they even have the same hairstyle! ^_^

  17. 17 saryKIM

Wow, that’s a good cast. I can’t wait for this drama, just based on the cast.

Yoo Ji-tae in a drama?? I’m watching it.

  18. 18 sooyon

what were they thinking when they gave them the same hairstyle? will have to tell the difference between the two via their eyebrows and slightly different eye shapes…

  19. 19 tuswit

i can’t wait to see this drama with good casting & i love all the actors here! i agree with the writer 101% that they have a striking resemblance, they could pass as brothers! i liked them both when i saw them in one of the dramas or movies (of course separate projects); weepie queen she is choi ji (smiles) i love her though i think she’s a classic actress aside from so jin & a handful more K-actresses like kim ha neul!

  20. 20 sonam

    Love her dress!
YJT has the most kissable lips!

  21. 21 lovin it

choi ji woo looks so pretty and radiant!
excited for this! hope this wont disappoint like air city! for now i have high hopes for choi ji woo :)

Looking forward to spending some light-hearted moments while gazing upon the visage of the beautiful queen who reigns so elegantly over the world of KDrama. She’s not the actress I’ve followed the most or even the one that I like the best, but to me she’ll always be the one that best represents the overpowering magnetic force that this particular genre can unleash upon it’s unsuspecting beneficiaries.

It’s beauty, it’s passion, it’s pathos, ethos, hope, rebirth, and redemption came upon the world at large while riding that hallyhu wave down those icy slopes during those breathy days amid a wintery tale of loves lost and found. Of all of the awe-inspiring visual opulence offered in spades by Winter Sonata, it is ethereal countenance of Miss Choi that will forever be burned into my memory. Like a laboratory rat, I spent the better part of two days hitting the lever which allowed me the passport to travel through that magical land where the beautiful snow-princess lived. My world has never been the same since….

  23. 23 ichiru

wow! i can’t wait for this! Ji-woo-hime IS tall, in winter sonata she was like head to head with BYJ and that makes him kinda small…but in this one she looks wonderful with the 2 actors towering her…she can finally wear high heels to show her long legs!!!

  24. 24 mzpakipot

    Lee Ki Woo-t woot!!!

  25. 25 edgy

I must be the only one who DOESN’T like Choi Ji-Woo. Sorry … just don’t see what all the fuss is about.

Now, Yoo Ji-Tae, on the other hand. LOVE this guy. Too bad they couldn’t get a better leading lady for him! haha

  26. 26 paranblue

    don’t tell me they got the same sorta looking actors (seriously they look ALIKE- and this is not just because they are asian) so that they can have a big twist at the end saying that they are long lost twin bros or something 0____0;;

  27. 27 mookie

^ edgy I’m not a fan of JiWoohime’s acting either… being able to emote ONE emotion as in crying is not acting.

um…is this a good idea to have the delicate crying queen to be in a comedy….she may need to laugh a lot…and……….the……lines……will……show…..

  28. 28 edgy

mookie, you’re too funny! i thought those lines were taken care of via botox?

and that ‘jiwoo-hime’ title bothers me, too. she is NOT a princess.

  29. 29 belleza

“so that they can have a big twist at the end saying that they are long lost twin bros”

I sure hope so!! :D One expects no less from Autumn “OMG my sister is hot!!” Tale’s Oh Soo Yun!

“being able to emote ONE emotion as in crying is not acting.”

Oh, but she is the one and future Dowager Queen of Tears; the Susan Lucci of the waaah; the portable cataclysmic flood. Many times I watched Stairway to Heaven and I’d stand up and clap at the sheer athleticism at display. O make it rain Ji-woo Hime; make it rain!!

“um…is this a good idea to have the delicate crying queen to be in a comedy…”

She’s a touch underrated in rom-com work. Just in terms of having general romantic chemistry with her leads, she’s maybe my favorite TV actress next to Gong Hyo-jin. Good with timing, very good at making us believe the male partner is actually interesting, good relationship with the camera (which helps with the kissing bits.) Her short tongue will probably always impede her line deliveries.

“she may need to laugh a lot…and……….the……lines……will……show…..”

That was what I disliked greatly about the photo work. Her face looks really, erm, tight in the shots. Against the white background and soft contrast, her nose and chin takes on Aniston-esque angularity. Recent pics of her working with Yoo Ji-tae are actually show her in a better light.

“i thought those lines were taken care of via botox?”

Botox wouldn’t be effective for her smiling lines. Due to her age and probably her diet, her cheeks have sagged a little. Her lack of color accentuates that to the camera.

  30. 30 xtina

i can’t stop staring at lee ki woo in that picture.

  31. 31 Nora from CA, USA

Choi Ji Woo is the reason why I started watching korean dramas & movies. She impressed me so much that I started collecting all her dramas & movies. To me, she’s the BEST (Beautiful, Elegant, Sophisticated & Talented). Whatever other people which I’m pretty sure were mostly envious women says, Ji Woo is the best korean actress proven by several awards she received. Let’s just enjoy the drama & be kind to everyone whoever your favorite stars are. All those stars work hard to entertain us, therefore, let’s thank them for their efforts. Ji Woo is not only beautiful outside, she’s also beautiful inside which to me matters more. She’s kind-hearted & humble. God created us all.

  32. 32 edgy

Nora, you are contradictory in what you wrote. You make the assumption that everyone who doesn’t like your precious Ji-Woo is “envious”, yet, you go on to say that we should “be kind to everyone”. And then you bring God into it.

Please. We like who we like. I’m not envious of Ji-Woo at all (why should I be envious of someone I don’t like?). If she’s your favorite, fine. She’s not mine, and that’s fine, as well.

  33. 33 Nora from CA, USA

I’m not contradictory, I am stating the fact.

  34. 34 edgy

Must be nice to live in a land of denial. Ignorance is bliss, after all.

  35. 35 Nora from CA, USA

I doesn’t dislike any of the actresses or actors because I know they work very hard on their profession, so I don’t give any bad comments. I admire them for trying their best to please their audience.

  36. 36 edgy

No, you don’t give any bad comments on actors or actresses. You just give bad comments on “everyday” people and say they are “envious” (“Whatever other people which I’m pretty sure were mostly envious women says” … YOUR words)because they don’t agree with you.

Something is wrong there. Actors and actresses ACT. If you give them MORE respect than you do to someone else you may see everyday, then yes … there is something wrong there.

Sorry for going off-topic, JB. I just don’t like anyone accusing me of being envious of someone I don’t particularly care for. I’ll end this here.

  37. 37 asianromance

people are always saying choi ji woo looks so beautiful- but i think she looks horrible with her woebegone, quiet expressions. She looks awesome with happier expressions. can’t wait to see it!

  38. 38 Anni

hee hee….Jiwoo is the main reason for me to watch Star’s Lover too.

  39. 39 dae

I like lee ki woo, i first saw him on that drama where he played as rookie player falling for an older single mom…. i dont think i got to finish it but i really think he’s suave…. i’d certainly watch this … i love choi ji woo! i still think she’s the most beautiful korean actress ever graced the silverscreen!

  40. 40 nor

i hope this drama make people cant fever agains korean drama same with winter sonata

  41. 41 Caro

The above pict looks like a family picture to me! mom, dad, n son.
Yoo JT and Lee KW looks kinda similar don’t u guys think??

  42. 42 hanbok

choi ji woo’s problem with her line deliveries is not because her tongue is short! she has shown that can stick her tongue out far. she just gets nervous and speaks to fast which is what causes her to mispronounce her lines sometimes.
