Kim Ji-suk plans for his upcoming enlistment
by | April 21, 2010 | 14 Comments

Kim Ji-suk‘s up for his military duty, and has announced that he will begin his service in June, according to a statement made by his management on 21st. His current drama, MBC’s Personal Taste, will be his last project before enlistment.

His management clarified that the speculation that his enlistment would come on May 26, however, is false. At his recent fanmeeting, Kim’s Chuno co-star Oh Ji-ho had joked, “I hear you’re going on May 26.” However, in actuality Kim has not yet fixed a date.

As is the case with so many actors, Kim’s enlistment comes just as his career is starting to heat up. He had a role in the popular 2007 series Likable or Not, had a box office mega-success with the sports comedy Take Off, then built on that popularity as Wang Son in the recent Chuno. In Personal Taste, he plays a spineless cad with enough humor to make him an enjoyable-to-hate sort of character. The drama airs its finale on May 20.

I first saw him in 200 pound Beauty… the guy they beat up @ the elevator. So far he is amusing in Personal Taste. I wish him luck.

What? He looks so young. I had no idea he was old enough.
    I wish him well

I’ve only seen Kim Ji-suk in “Likable Or Not,” where he went from
being your basic jerk…..into a responsible employee of Bon Jour
Foods. (Still waiting for those delicious seafood dumplings.) :)

I think that he’s doing a really great job of acting in “Personal Taste.”
Usually in a kdrama, the sleazy ex-boyfriend…..stays…..a sleazy
ex-boyfriend. But his portrayal of Chang-ryul has been layered, honest,
and fascinating to watch. So if this is his last performance before his
military service starts, he’ll leave us with a good performance to remember.
(Just think of the training as preparation for future military-type action roles.) :)

GOOD LUCK ~ WITH HIS MILITARY CAREER! And we’ll be looking forward
to this talented guy’s return in two years, to our TV and computer screens.

damn… just as his career is blooming. Though he’s not the best actor out there but he has potential. I liked him since “vineyard man” days. HIs character is hateful in “personal taste” but he plays it well.

Hopefully he will able to go further when he comes back in service.

It turns out that today is his birthday. Born 4-21-81, he’s 29.

  6. Quinze

Aww, I think he has potential enough to have done more with his career. Hope he come back and picks it up where he left off.

So I’m confused. What’s the age limit that Korean men have to have completed their military service by? I didn’t even realize he was that old…

  7. selina

i like him in personal taste and chuno. I wish him luck.

  8. Enny

The first time I saw him was in the Loveholic’s Hurt MV and I’ve been a fan since then.

You can print up their fact sheet on your favorite Korean actor.
You’ll get a snappy photograph, eleven listed TV shows, and four movies.
It might take you two years, just to watch everything that he’s already done!
I hope that this helps. :)

Didn’t you know that we’re a classy bunch around here?
    ~ We all gots plenty ‘O couth! ~ :) :) :)
(Translation: I’m glad that I was able to help you out.)

Seriously, with a name like “Corey” I imagine that you’re not Korean.
Neither am I. I’m a New Yorker of Italian heritage, so we have to help
each other out, being kdrama fans, with (mostly) no clue about anything
    Korean. KOREAN TELEVISION? HUH??? :)

It helps a lot if you do a “search” with any information that you might have,
especially if you’ve seen somebody in a series, and go nuts trying to place
who they are and where you’ve seen them before. If you do a “search” on
“Likable or Not” (for example) you’ll get the list of the entire cast, and if you
“click on” the names, you’ll discover somebody else who you’ve seen in
another program. Think of a spider web that gets bigger and bigger. Ha, ha.

Did you happen to notice that on the bottom of that d-addicts information
page on Kim Ji-suk, it says that HE SPEAKS FLUENT ENGLISH! I’ve
already watched Episodes #7 and #8 of “Personal Taste” (without sub-titles)
and there’s a scene where he has a conversation in English with some
guy, and his English was great! Definely not something that was memorized
and then said phonetically. Anyway ~ enjoy whatever you watch ~ and take care.
    :)
