Poseidon resuscitated, but lacks cast

This is an odd turn of events: The dead-in-the-water maritime police drama Poseidon dropped by SBS has now been picked up by KBS for a fall premiere…although its main cast members have since dropped out.

Initially the drama had cast Eric (Strongest Chil Woo) and Kim Kang-woo (Story of a Man) as friendly rivals in an counterterrorism unit, along with idol-turned-actor U-Know Yunho (Heading to the Ground), Kim Ok-bin (Thirst), and Jeon Hye-bin (Yacha).

The production was repeatedly delayed, however, citing various reasons that included a particularly cold winter at sea that kept it from making its initially planned March premiere on SBS. With shoots pushed back multiple times, the cast members began dropping off to do other projects; in fact, Eric will be premiering with his, Myung-wol the Spy, in mere weeks.

Currently the only cast member still technically onboard is Yunho, but don’t count him in yet: A rep with his management, SM Entertainment, stated, “U-know Yunho has a busy schedule planned, so we are not in a position to say whether he will appear in Poseidon. He hasn’t finalized whether he’ll stay.” (Sounds to me like chances are good he’ll be out soon, too, although don’t quote me on that.)

A source with KBS confirmed that Poseidon has been given a slot on its September schedule — ironically (?), it follows Myung-wol the Spy on Mondays and Tuesdays. That means it’ll have to jump into production mode right away, in order to get back in motion. Who knows, there’s always a chance the drama will manage to assemble a decent cast the second time around, but after all the problems it’s had so far, I’m treating this one with LOTS of wariness.

lol, if it's only yunho, that will certainly head to the ground. (yes, it's a lame statement, but im glad to use it.)

i was happy with Eric and Kim KangWoo though, esp Kim Kang Woo. would've watched this one for him, for sure.

LOL, true that.

That boy is nice eye candy but he can't act to save his life. Feel bad for him being in one disaster project after another (HTTG, Goong Musical, now Poseidon).

ok, Goong wasn´t a disaster... as an actor he´s getting better, give him a chance ;)

He's a crappy actor but he's sadly also made very poor project decisions (bad scripts, bad production) and some projects just unexpectedly blew up (Poseidon). Acting clearly just isn't his strong suit. There's no shame in not being able to be good at everything. He shouldn't waste his time showcasing his deficiencies when I'm sure there are many other great solo projs he could work on.

I love that boy Yunho but he hasn't been having any luck with dramas. If he stays as a supporting actor fine.

But they will need some big name actor to even keep this thing afloat...

And yay Eric! The posters look fun for his drama anyway

KBS, why don't you pick up What's Up instead?

I think it was recently confirmed through the police via autopsy that Dae Sung accidentally killed a man while trying to swerve the taxi in front of him. So yeah, until they find a new idol to replace him the drama will probably be on the back burner indefinitely.

Was wondering if it would be possible to do a potential leads for the 'friendly rivals in an counter-terrorism unit' roles?

Like a poll to see whom we pick, whom we want to see take on these roles and who ends up being cast. LOL.

Although that would require a vast knowledge of who will be free/willing to take that role/offered that role/suit the role.... hmm.... lot of work.

please ignore me.. lol... just my thoughts on this

:)

Cause the premise of Poseidon sounds wonderful, so it would be great if it will actually air

With Daesung's accident and all the drama surrounding it, I doubt we'll ever see "What's Up?" I'm pretty sure that drama's dead.

Unless they get lucky enough that a channel chooses to air it like Birdie Buddy

I'm sorry to hear about the accident, but wasn't What's Up already done shooting? I thought it was already pre-produced and just needed a timeslot.

The issue isn't filming, but Daesung's image right now. Broadcasters aren't too keen on airing a drama where one of the main actors are associated with killing someone (accidental or not). You see actors get removed from dramas for similar reasons all the time (remember what happened to Jun Tae Soo? And he didn't even kill anyone).

Speaking of "What's Up?" Pending the results of the prosecution's investigation of Daesung (the main actor) and his involvement in the car accident, would any network still pick it up? I'm a little hesitant (though I was looking forward to it immensely) due to.. public pressure and what not..

My interest for Poseidon without Eric...close to non-existent. :/

Also, wouldn't it make more sense to pick up a drama for a fall slot that's already been filmed and produced, like oh, I don't know, What's Up?! *_* I suppose I'm just bitter, but just imagining the greatness that could have been that drama...

Better salvage what you can, right? Feel sort of bad for the production though since they have to pretty much completely recast.

the hype surrounding this one and its cast (including every actor and actress mentioned above) was immense.
But a lot has happened since then, so.
Still... if they can get some known and well-received names onboard, write up a decent script and an experienced director to film, it could work. Having it on KBS is already a good start.
(btw. who's the writer & PD?)

Talking about dramas that didn't air yet,

What's up won't air so soon, if it ever air.

Daesung who was part of the cast of What's up, was in a accident and it was confirmated that the motorcyclist’s death was from Daesung’s collision. So he is in bad shit right now...

UEE drama Birdie Buddy will air soon on tvN!

and now poseidon was resuscitated.

Yuhno's singing is quite weak actually, eventhough he had the easiest parts in DBSK/TVXQ's songs. His dancing is good but it's nothing very technical or out of the ordinary. His acting is awful. Thanksfully he is an eye candy. Anyways, the only thing which sparked my interest for this drama in the first place was that Eric was supposed to act in it. Now that Eric (as well as most of the initial cast) is out of the picture I won't really mind if Poseidon fails/never airs.

Ehh, not sure how I feel about this. Without the initial cast it just doesn't seem as interesting as it first seemed. I'm actually shocked that YunHo is still semi on board, it was practically in the dumps and he still didn't drop out? Seems like hes desperate to participate in a "could be hit" so he can redeem himself from the disaster that was HTTG. But really....without Eric in this I'm most probably not going to watch. =[

A little advice, SME, stop putting Yunho in dramas, especially in lead/supporting roles...cause hes just not cut out to be an actor =\

......Hey, JC.....Didn't you see everything so charming around Yunho, did you? It doesn't matter to him because he still can't act NOR isn't good at singing either -- it's nothing so prefect. Well....I am sure that he will have another chance to try something so new and different someday! =) Ooh ooh.....You...Be careful, why?

........If you really want Yunho to quit this drama so badly, he will be.........heartbreaking. (sighs) Aigoo. (my head bows down & walk away slowly)

I just got back, and wow this place's gotten insane. What's up with the bashing? jb, where art thou?

Poseidon had a fantastic initial cast: Kim Kang-woo, Kim Ok-bin and 2 incredibly famous idols / actors. The production company would do a good job to get at least the same amount of hype the drama got last year.

To my neutral/objective mind, Yunho is one of the best dancers in Korea and he can definitely sing, especially comparing to most of KPOP idol singers.
If he ever decides to stay with Poseidon project, I'll try to watch him with an open mind.
People, please watch out what you say. You're talking about a real person with flesh and blood. Your comments can really hurt someone.
