L scores first headlining role on the big screen

I just wish it were a more interesting-sounding movie. Infinite’s L (Kim Myung-soo) is headed to the big screen for the first time, in a starring role in the new movie Mister Shark, about a boy who befriends a shark. Yeah, I know. It makes no sense to me either. Why couldn’t they have gone with a nice dog, or some friendly dolphins? Was Free Willy just a challenge to up the stakes with more life-threatening maritime companions?

There’s not a lot of information about the project other than that basic premise, which I suppose is all you really need to know (other than the obvious question, Why would you befriend sharks?). I’m sure it’ll be a feel-good movie aimed at a younger crowd, and it is live-action because L is reportedly in training to learn how to scuba-dive for the role.

L is still one of those idol-actors who hasn’t quite managed to tap into something deeper, to make each character different from the last. He’s now got a decently long string of TV credits to his name, including Shut Up: Flower Boy Band, Master’s Sun, Sly and Single Again, She’s So Lovable, and most recently The Time I’ve Loved You, but I don’t know that he’s shown a whole lot of improvement.

In fact, I still think he was best in Shut Up: Flower Boy Band, but that may have been one of those lucky coincidences where he just fit the character. I hope for his sake that the movie is a chance to improve upon his acting, if nothing else.

Mister Shark plans to start shooting later this month, for a release in 2016.

He's very awkward + self conscious onscreen I think. Plus he smirks too much lol. I did like him in SUFBB though, mainly bc I loved his character.

"He’s very awkward + self conscious onscreen I think."

It's not like he gets encouragement or anything from people in the internet as one can see, so this comes as no surprise when there are jerkwads. Then people are stuck in that one drama they saw him in once and haven't noticed his improvements.

I liked him as Hyunsoo in SUFBB, almost more than the main characters. Yeah probably more. And his acting a really awkward cause he seems to self conscious about himself in all his scenes, although he was the only interesting character in 'She's So Boring' even though his acting left much to be desired.

Maybe the shark gives him some mystical powers or grants him three wishes like the genie in Aladdin....or maybe it'll be like karate kid...except the shark will teach L his predatory ways....

L actually yet to be recognized as an actor, and long way to go to be good actor. but something that i like about him its his pretty face. i normally dont have a thing for pretty boy, but there are few exceptions to this., i think when L becomes older he can turn to be more handsome.

So, it's really a shark not a dolphin. lmao... Sorry L, but as a lead on big screen. How can you pull it out with this kind of genre and plot (befriend with a shark, lmao I can't stop it) and your current acting...

Goodluck though :D

I'm excited for everything about this except the storyline xD Which basically means I only care about L. Because INFINITE is life. But yeah, his acting is okay, and it could use some improvement, but I liked his roles, especially in She's So Lovable where he was literally the only interesting character in the entire drama x)

Why, kid? He improved in TTILY but still not at leading role level.

and the thing from Free Willy was a freaking killer whale, those are as deadly as any shark and scarier because they are smarter!

Darn lucky to head a leading role since he doesn't have much in paper, nor he had score a one-chance hit neither drama/movie bfore. I know him in Shut Up! Flower Boy was quite excellent for his scope, but damn, his luck do scores A+!

So um, I'm a ultimate Inspirit (INFINITE fan) and I gotta say, Myungsoo's acting just haven't improve all that much. I wish him all the best but I think that the best INFINITE actor is Sungyeol, who happens to be less "pretty" than Myungsoo (however, Yeol is my bias) but yeah. Good luck!

Same here. I'm pretty much a die-hard Inspirit, but I feel like they all have a long way to go in terms of acting.

I think Myungsoo and Hoya were just really lucky to have gotten two pivotal characters (in SUFBB and R1997) that fit them really well, which made more people aware of them. However, in all their following works, I haven't seen much improvement (you mentioned Myungsoo but even Hoya in Mask was a little stiff and awkward)... I used to think Sungyeol was the good actor of the bunch, but after HSLO, I'm just not so sure anymore LOL.

I think the problem with all of them is that they're too self-conscious on camera and they're not really emotionally connecting with the audience. So now I'm nervous when I hear news of the boys taking on lead roles, but at the same time I really hope it's an opportunity that they can take to improve.

Sungyeol? I don't think so. Watch HSLO. He's having a hard time with those too emotional scenes. Especially those confrontation scenes with her stepmother. In the latter episodes, you will notice that Woohyun improved his acting and became better than Sungyeol. If I would rank the members in terms of acting, first would be Hoya, then L, Woohyun and last will be Sungyeol. The rest, I haven't seen them act yet so I can't include them.

Woohyun? Better than Sungyeol? In what universe?

Hoya is a terrible actor that got lucky with Reply 97 playing a one-dimensional character with no range and expects roles to be handed to him on a silver platter because of it. L is a mediocre to decent actor that consistently gets roles because of his position in Infinite as the "visual" but otherwise strives to improve himself. Woohyun doesn't even go here.

Sungyeol is a decent to good actor that was earning praise from both industry and the public as an "actor turned idol" before Woollim unceremoniously shoved him into the basement and sabotaged his career, forcing him to "re-debut" as an "idol actor" and get fucked over by getting cast in a badly-written teen drama playing second fiddle to an awful co-star (Woohyun was HIGHLY unprofessional on set and didn't memorize his lines, forcing ad libs of almost every scene in HSLO) and causing everyone, including himself, to cast doubt on his actual acting ability.

Literally everyone who claims he's a "bad actor" cites HSLO, ignoring his past entire filmography where he was more than decent. Everyone was terrible in HSLO. You cannot use that drama as a benchmark for "good acting."

L has improved, he's improved with every drama that he's gotten. And this is a movie, rather than a drama, so he won't have to deal with the live shoot system that dramas have. So this means more time being able to look at the script, more time for him to get into character, and be a part of of something that probably has better direction/writing than a good portion of dramas. So for all anyone knows, L could do well because live shooting is not for every actor, especially in a country like SK where they usually don't even write all the episodes in a season for their dramas at the start of them.

Sharks! Yikes! And it's MISTER Shark you say? With that puppy face are you sure it's not Shark Boy? :-D

But hey, he is actually quite "interesting" on screen in all of his dramas, imo. Who knows, maybe this movie will be his much needed breakthrough!

That shark will eat L,choke on his bones and die, become an over night sensation people will cry for him.
The people will hire illjimae or Sung-yeol (he's cousins with the shark, its a fang thing)whoever's schedule is free to capture L's ghost ? but since they can't actually see ghosts they approach The Magistrate for help, but he can't, because he has been depressed ever since losing Arang,so they decide to instead search for a diary that was written 150 years ago on how to capture ghosts, they search for the book for 17 out of 20 episodes. They finally find it and it only has one clue
FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD
Sung-yeol :follow the yellow brick road?
Illjimae :Follow the yellow brick road...
Magistrate :FOLLOW THE YELLOW BRICK ROAD
Toto:All together now ? ?
All:Follow the yellow brick road... ? Follow the yellow brick road, follow the yellow brick road
Follow, follow, follow, follow, follow... because ?
Sung-yeol :Because ?
A man looks through the shark murder case file, and he introduces the story with a voiceover: “Every shark story has a beginning and an end. What will the story be? A story that began but has stopped without reaching its end. But someone is asking that the story continue, and I intend to respond to that request without knowing who that someone is. So the halted shark story continues…”
Hyoon: Did you find the signature?
Illjimae :Are you the team Leader?
Hyoon :Are you idiots
Sung-yeol :Did you call us idiots?
Hyoon :can't you see yellow brick road, doesn't mean yellow brick road, it means x+2(y)=32%cos
All including Toto:????

Darn it i accidentally hit the enter button, my mind still had a lot to spew but i think Min is actually the one that sent L to tempt the shark to eat him, so he can die.
Anyway, the people who are funding this drama look like they really don't need their money because im trying to imagine how the pitch trying to sell this plot went... Unless its the shark from finding Nemo , he was cute,I'd watch for him.is L funding this drama? ?

He's improving with every role, I would consider him okay. He nailed Shiwoo, if people bothered to pass by the first three episodes of that horrible drama that is. He gave almost everyone severe cases of second male lead syndrome. And then he took his acting up a notch in TTILY.

Granted, I think this is too much of a leap for him and too fast since I don't think he's leading role level yet. I liked how he took supporting roles or side roles as he gradually got better. Slowly, but surely. There's a lot of responsibility when you are the headliner of a movie, even if it does seem like it'd be more of a kid friendly film. Not to mention the audience expands away from k-pop fans. Then you have the critics. He said he reads comments about him, negative or otherwise. And as mentally unhealthy as that is, he should be aware of his situation. Just because k-netizens praised him on his recent acting stint doesn't mean he should jump the shark.

[badum tss]

No matter what people think of his acting though, the guy has a lot of charm. A LOT of charm. He's unbearably charming on screen. He seems to sell a lot of his characters and turns out to be an audience favorite with nearly every character he's played.
