Name That Drama: Ramyun of revenge and rice cakes of death

As always, feel free to email us your questions and requests for future Name That Drama installments.

  1. Actors playing actors

A few years ago my mother was watching this drama and I only got a few glimpses. Apparently there are two girls who want to be actresses. One had the help of her mother and other one didn’t but had hired this man to help her. I think he was using her more then helping. In a scene there were a few male actors whom I recall looking pretty cute. Please help me find this drama!!! Thx!!!

  2. “It’s a bit complicated” (Aren’t they always?)

So I’m searching for a Korean drama. I’ve searched for very long but I can’t find it. It’s a Korean drama where the guy is rich, and there is a woman whose husband betrayed her and they have a kid (a girl). That woman works in the guy’s company and she has a sister who works in a cafe which is the guy’s younger brother. It’s a bit complicated.
There’s a rich girl who wants to marry the rich older brother but he seems to fall for the girl who works for him.
I remember a scene where the rich boy buys that woman so many shoes. Thanks xxx

  3. Ghost lover

When I was in school about 4 years ago, a junior of mine told me a movie/drama (I’m not sure) she has watched. It was about a woman ghost/spirit follows around a man and became his friend, eventually became his lover. I think the woman didn’t remember her identity. My junior said in the end, the man found out that the girl is actually in coma. I’ve been searching for this movie/drama ever since my junior told me about it. I’ve heard about this drama/movie about 4-5 years ago so I think this movie/drama is quite old. Someone help me find it please~

  4. Incognito hero

What’s that drama where a writer is in disguise when he went to the book release of his own book? I think it’s a recent drama. I remember a scarf from the female lead used as a disguise.

  5. Ramyun revenge

I think it’s a pretty recent drama, maybe from 2011-2015. So there is a really nice lead male who has a meal with a girl he likes (or maybe she is his girlfriend). He tells her that he is not that nice and he also knows how to take revenge on his mother. He says he and his father used to eat ramyun instead of his mother’s homemade food as a form of revenge. I know that’s not much, but I only remember that cute scene. I would like to rewatch this drama. Thank you.

  6. Necktie buddies

I suddenly have this image of like a scene from a drama where one person is tying a necktie around his neck, then when he finishes he gives it to the other person because the other person can’t tie his own necktie. They were both having a casual conversation in front of a mirror I think (while all this is happening). They might’ve been brothers or chaebol-secretary. I’m almost sure that this is a fairly recent drama (definitely not more than 2-3 years) and also I think it’s most likely rom-com. Sorry I can’t remember anything more than this, please help, it’s been bugging me. >< Thanks~

  7. Plastic surgery amnesia

My friend told me about this kdrama and I want to watch it, but we both don’t remember what it is called. It’s about a girl who gets plastic surgery and she can’t remember before the surgery, and this guy keeps following her but it turns out to be her husband and then she remembers him. Can you please help me find it, I’ve looked everywhere.

  8. Tragic rice cakes

Here goes! I think it was set in a rice cake shop and I remember this one scene where some lady came in to buy a cake for her dad because he was about die and he craved it. Later, I think he died from choking on it lol. Also there was an apprentice and one day his master told him to design his own and he made his have a fireworks pattern on it I think. Please help. 🙂

Thanks for playing, everyone — till next time!

#4 is Kill Me Heal Me, i think? But it's not a book release that Rion went, but his book reading. And I remember that Rijin used her scarf to hide her face in case Rion came, which he did.

#7 is Birth of Beauty. Han Yeseul's character had a plastic surgery and Joo Sang Wook is the doctor who performed the surgery, not her husband. He followed her around because she had amnesia after her surgery.

#8 is the Japanese drama Ando Natsu (http://film-enthusiast.blogspot.com/2008/09/ando-natsu.html)
excluding the choking part, as I don't think that happened in that drama.

In one episode, a woman customer came to buy a unique Japanese sweet that was no longer produced in the shop because the previous oyakata prayed to the gods that they would stop making the sweet if they have a son, and when they had a son, they stopped making it. The woman's dying father wanted to eat the sweet before he died, and he died after eating it.

In another episode, the guy apprentice was tasked to make a Japanese sweet for a traditional Japanese dance school's festival. The theme was fireworks.

I remember the details because I love Ando Natsu! It also has a great theme song, "Tada Arigatou" by MONKEY MAJIK (https://youtu.be/07GJORX1g2A)

Required fields are marked *

I don't know if #2 describes 'Oh, My Lady.' While parts of it are similar - she was a divorcee with a daughter and her ex- betrayed her, she worked for the lead (Siwon) -- but the other details aren't right. The lead was an actor and she worked as his nanny/housekeeper, but her day job was with a producer who the lead had history with. Her best friend didn't work in a cafe but was a doctor. His childhood friend worked in a cafe and they both had a crush on the rich girl who moved back into town. But I don't remember any scene with a lot of shoes.

I have this image in my head for #6. It's a man and his secretary allright, in front of a mirror, but.can't.remember.what.drama!
The man is some kind of gangster or mafia boss. And the secretary is actually, if I'm not mistaken, an undercover agent or some sort.
Could it be Last? Ah, no.
Aaah! Hidden Identity! That's it! I think #6 is Hidden Identity.

It's not 'Who Are You' - that drama starts with her waking from a coma and being able to see ghosts. She does have amnesia so she doesn't recognize the ghost of her lover, who is following her around in hopes of protecting her, and he ends up being in a coma.

#3 Esp. Couple
Many spoilers: Park Bo-young plays the girl - that turns out to be a spirit that turns out to be sent by the comatose girl - that follows Jin Goo around. It's a movie from 2008 or 2009. It is a very odd movie, that didn't attract much viewers. I liked it. However I'm a huge fan of both Jin Goo and Park Bo-young, so I'm pretty biased.
Hm, but it might also be one of the other dramas people mentioned here, because Park Bo-young and Jin Goo actually didn't become lovers (age gap). It was open ended what became of him and the comatose girl. The comatose girl was older than the spirit part she send to him.

Just rewatched the ending again. The last time I saw that movie was a long time ago so I remembered the ending wrong. Now that I have seen it again I would say that the movie really matches your descriptions in all points:
- girl following boy around
- friendship that later turns into more
- findingt out about the coma in the last quarter of the film
- and as far as I remember the girl didn't remember who she was or at least she pretended she didn't know (would have been a little complicated to explain it... ;))

Yes I remember this movie! I was sitting here trying to remember the name of it. Everyone kept saying Arang and The Magistrate which was totally wrong because there was no coma and it was a movie.

Number 3 is Heaven's Postman with Jae Joong. It's a movie or drama special. You don't know until the end that the main girl isn't actually dead, but in a coma.

It wasn't the main girl that died. It was Jaejoong who was a ghost/angel that became friends and eventually lovers to Han Hyo Joo. But yeah, you might be right. In the end, we discovered he was in a coma and woke up.

I don't actually think #3 is a Korean Drama... or even Asian at all, especially since the letter writer was only told about the story. I'm pretty sure it's a movie called "Just Like Heaven" with Mark Ruffalo and Reese Witherspoon. It's based on a book called "If Only It We're True" by Marc Levy.

I think #1 is Insoon is pretty. It was around 2007 or 2008. Insoon's mom wanted her to be an actress but she doesn't and her younger sister (half sister, I think) also wanted to be an actress. Lee Wan was also there so that probably accounts to having cute guys in the drama. Hehe...

6. Reminded me of Taiwanese drama Bromance

The OTP are chaebol-secretary as well as sworn brothers. (Gender bender. Girl is disguised as boy.) They do a lot of necktie-tying as it's a recurring theme in the drama.

I am most probably off though since I didn't see a necktie switch yet. And it's still airing.
