Fantasy sageuk Mirror of the Witch casts its king

Casting is continuing swiftly on JTBC’s fantasy sageuk Mirror of the Witch, and with its leading roles filled, we’re on to the supporting cast, with the latest additions being Lee Ji-hoon (Six Flying Dragons, School 2013) and veteran supporting actress Jeon Mi-sun (Who Are You—School 2015, Maids).

The drama is now largely done with its casting, with Yoon Shi-yoon headlining as royal doctor Heo Jun, who wrote the famous medical text Mirror of Eastern Medicine and personally attended to King Seonjo, the father of future kings Gwanghae and Injo. Seonjo will be the role played by Lee Ji-hoon, who in the drama will suffer from a mysterious and painful disease that causes thorns to grow on his body. He does everything he can to cure his ailment and becomes entangled adversely with the cursed princess’s fate; played by Kim Sae-ron, the princess then becomes a witch with a “frozen heart,” though I’m not quite sure what that means yet.

Jeon Mi-sun, meanwhile, was reportedly happy to reunite with her Maids director and takes on the role of an ambitious woman whose gentle appearance hides her shrewd inner side, doing anything necessary in order to achieve her aims. She’s married to our hero’s father, but isn’t Heo Jun’s mother; he’s born illegitimate, so I’m anticipating that their relationship will be conflicted, to say the least.

Already cast are Yeom Jung-ah (Royal Family) in the role of a powerful witch, Jang Hee-jin (Village: Secret of Achiara) as the cursed queen, and Lee Sung-jae (Warm and Cozy) as the princess’s helper. Kwak Shi-yang (Oh My Ghostess) will play a warm, sweet young man whose first love was the princess; he became both her friend and brother-like figure when his father brought her home as a child and kept her safely hidden, making him her only source of connection to the outside world.

Mirror of the Witch follows Ms. Temper and Nam Jung-ki as a Friday-Saturday drama on JTBC beginning in May.

Right? She was Takgu's mother! How was there no mention of this up there? I know it's a translation/relaying of a Ten Asia article, but I would have expected an injected comment from jb.

In any case, I think Jeon Misun looks younger in Six Flying Dragons than she did in Baker King. How is that possible?

She was dolled up as Mugeuk but made to look old in Baker King. Plus acting beside glamorously dressed Jeon In Hwa, she would look much older. I love her eitherwise.

Yes, she played as his mom before, now she is his step mom?
I love her in Baker king.
She always have this soft look, beautifull and motherly.

I'm still not sure on this drama. It seems like it could either be a disaster or it could be a really fun fantasy drama. I'm very up in the air about this. So I'll let more information, teasers and promos trickle in before I decide on this.

I think Seonjo was Injo's grandfather - Seonjo wanted his eldest son by his concubine to be Crown Prince but when he died, Gwanghae was chosen as Crown Prince. The younger son of his concubine was Injo's father.

I think "Jingbirok" deals with this element of history.

Oh, that's Kim Ah-Joong's manager in Accidental Couple. No wonder she looked familiar.

I had been wondering why I haven't seen her for a long time. As it turns out her dramas just weren't my cup of tea. I hope this drama is fun so I can bother myself to watch it.

As much as I'm happy to see Tak Gu and his mom reunite, I'm just not feeling this drama's casting. Two grown men paired up with a child is kinda revolting to me. Sorry Si Yoon, but I'll wait for your next work.

The only thing that consoles in this drama's castings is Jang Hee Jin. I fell in love with her in SWWTN and very much look forward to seeing her beautiful face on screen again.

I've been following Lee Ji Hoon since he was in You'e The Best Lee Soon Shin. Glad he landed himself in another role that is getting bigger and bigger, albeit little by little. I am glad for his acting career progression. This role sounds tough for him though... and I wanna see how he gonna act out as King with this terrible disease.
