Uh, it’s legit snowing here, time to dig out all the warm clothes.

But also: Yay! Snow!

Lucky! It never snows here anymore. Not properly.

I’d miss snow too much if I moved anywhere where there wasn’t a proper winter. I’m still a little annoyed that last winter we barely got any snow and it just rained all the time instead. Nothing worse than a damp wool coat.

I’ve had snow and temperatures below -10 for the last 2 weeks where I live XD Remember to bundle up!!

Whoa, already? It doesn’t get that cold here until at least late Dec-Jan. Stay warm!

Yea, that’s Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for ya ~! LOL This November has been the coldest I can recall since 2-3 winters ago… global warming isn’t a thing, but climate change is XD

Damn. I lived in Ontario for four years, but it was never that cold in November. It was probably that this morning here though…but obviously global warming isn’t a thing. Tell that to our non-winter last year, and our boiling hot September, though, because apparently they haven’t gotten the message.

I lived in Toronto for a good year-and-a-half before, and for me, it wasn’t that it wasn’t cold there, it just seemed like a different type of cold… A lot more wet and dense XD The type of cold we experience here in Canada west, especially in the prairie provinces like here in Alberta, are a much more of a dry cold, so when the air comes and hits your face, it huuuuuurts— and the cold here seems to last longer too– around the 6-months mark, give or take 2 weeks, from October to around mid-April…. For realsies, a good winter moisturizer is my best friend to get through the winters here XD

Yeah, Chicago is a bit drier than Ontario was. (I swear it misted from Oct-April if it wasn’t actual winter weather when I lived there, so you were just permanently slightly damp. It was torture on my hair.)

I’ve also leaned into my heavy moisturizers for winter time. Just purchased a refill for one, actually. Love me some shea and vitamin E. And aloe. Or sometimes just straight argan oil. And I always love a good sheet mask.

For body, I use The Body Shop’s body butter, for moisturizers and skin care I use The Body Shop’s Drops Of Youth serum concentrate, and The Face Shop’s Greet Tea toner and Chia Seed moisturizer (which I think I will need to switch out with something else, maybe something back with the Green Tea line that I used to use, because the Seed line at The Face Shop doesn’t do anything for my skin), and I’ve found that sheet masks have less of an effect on my skin nowadays, unless I do one EVERY. SINGLE. DAY (but it’s like $2.00/sheet times that by 30/31 days in a month… THAT’S $60+ dollars just on sheet masks… um no thank you because I’d rather spend my $$ on something more long lasting), so I’ve made the switch to mask packs, which I only need to do twice (thrice max.) per week

I swear by Body Shops body butter. I’m also loving their vitamin e moisturizer for my night cream. I just slather it on, and I’ve noticed a huge difference. I have oily skin, so I always need to find stuff that absorbs well. I like sheet masks 1-3 times a week, but in summer I was doing more clay, exfoliating, or peeling masks to deal with oiliness. My friend usually sends me packs of 10-15 sheet masks, plus I stock up at sales so I actually have a box full of them – I actually don’t think I’ve bought any this year myself. Also, sometimes if I’m extra dry, essence before I use one helps the effects last longer, and I always save the leftover serum to use for a day or two after the mask as well.

Haven’t tried the Face Shop lines, but I love the Benton snail-bee one in winter — especially the steam cream for when it’s extra cold out. It’s incredibly rich though, so a little goes a long way.

I have sensitive oily to combination skin, depending on the weather, so I really have to watch what I use… I also like to keep things to a minimum, but uh, that doesn’t seem like it’s working out at the moment XDDD

Benton also has an aloe line that could be good for you – I use the gel moisturizer and it’s really good. It’s really mild, so it could be good for sensitive skin. I have oily-combo skin too, but I’m not too sensitive. I am careful about piling on products since that breaks me out.

I actually stopped using cleanser regularly and switched to Miceller water (the Simple brand one from the drugstore, which is actually for sensitive skin) and my skin has been clear with the exception of a few minor hormonal breakouts. I use cleanser maybe once a week or if I do a full face of makeup, which is rare. My morning routine is literally miceller water, eye cream, moisturizer. At night I’ve got a few serums but otherwise it’s the same as the morning.

I’m in Chicago, so I’m actually used to it, since I grew up here, but wasn’t expecting it today. It looks like it’s slowed down for now, so I may venture out in a bit. Plus, we’re not in the negatives, so it’s no biggie. Only after it drops a bit below 0 degrees F is it too cold for me. I actually prefer the colder weather to the heat. I was in TN once in June and it was basically my personal hell – hot, humid and sticky all the time.

You stay warm too! The weekend is looking a little more reasonable, but definitely bring gloves and a hat and scarf.

Thank you! I’ve never been to Chicago or anywhere near the great lakes actually!

The lake is great even when it’s cold. On windy days the waves are high enough to trick you into thinking it’s the ocean! 😜 Too bad you’re not coming after Thanksgiving, Christmastime in Chicago is pretty awesome and very festive.

@mindy is right about the lake — it’s amazing year round. But there’s so much to do here I’m sure you’ll have a blast.
