Possessed | Ya basic!

This is a romantic paranormal procedural I didn’t know I needed. And if you like this sort of thing, you need it too.

I think @Duncan (mydramalist) made the first efforts to sub the show into English from Chinese captions. While I’m grateful for their efforts, I was amused and intrigued by the frequent use of the word “basic.” Once I found slightly better subs (see the bottom images of each pair), I saw “basic” stands in for all sorts of insults.

This is ripe terrain for a drama drinking game.

Ep. 1: You little—

Ep. 1: That jerk!

Ep. 1: You irritate me

Ep. 3: Ah, basic. @hobakky—Are you able to translate this bit when the ghost rests his head on Pil-sung’s lap?

Maybe the translator loves The Good Place?

I haven’t checked the other episodes, but, in episode 3 at least, the subber used “basic” to translate “Aish,” which is a noise of exasperation/frustration that is also considered to be an expletive. It’s likely that whenever you hear the word “Aish” it can be interpreted as something similar to one of the following: “You little-!”, “Damn it!”, or “You’ve got to be friggin kidding me!”.
