What’s up in dramaland? Anisa (@laica) and Paroma (@festerfaster) and our lovely guest, Anisa’s little sis, Zaynab, discuss Sulli’s passing and her activism against internet bullying, plus the release of movie Kim Ji-young, Born in 1982, and the anti-feminist backlash against it.

Also: November dramas! Paroma makes prophesies, and Zaynab has a big reveal at the end, which is my second favourite part. My favourite being the mid-episode sisterly stand-off, hahaha.

Timestamps in the comments! Enjoy, even though I’m not in it!*

*Just as well, I would’ve brought the tone down, given all the waspish, screamy comments I made to NOBODY while I listened! XD (look, they attacked all my favourite dramas while I was away! City Hunter! Healer! And they forgot I LOVED Defendant and Heart Surgeons! It’s like they don’t know me at all.)

Noooo, not Healer? It’s the price you pay for missing an episode.

I’ve been looking for an English audio version of the novel Kim Ji-young Born in 1982 without success so far.

I had to take a break part way through to ask what you enjoyed about Hospital Ship? Kang Min Hyuk had a compelling story and was wonderful. I’m not sure I’d try to talk anyone into watching it unless they love him. Sadly, it was my introduction to Ha Ji Won.

I watched it live, and at the time, I felt it was a really pleasantly low-key, healing kind of watch. I don’t think I pushed it as hard as P suggested, but I probably did mention more than once that I thought they’d like it for the above reasons. I know everyone else thought it was dreadful, but maybe it was exactly what I needed at the time. It wasn’t demanding, it wasn’t high stakes, it wasn’t makjang. It felt like the show took its mission to be resolving that grief that it opened with (Ha Ji-won’s…was it her mother’s death?). And I really liked Kang Min-hyuk in it, too, he totally came of age for me in this drama, and the young cast in general was very sweet.

I’m not the hugest HJW fan, I think she’s kind of overrated, but I liked the simplicity of the story here.

Looking forward to the next podcast and to hear about the crackjangfest that was Graceful Family.

Anyways, if the Kim Seul-gi fan podcast ever takes off, sign me up. Why is she a supporting character again?
