For those who don’t want to read the whole thing (DB just saved you guys from another one of my rants), basically, I was infuriated by this clip from EXO’s concert where their own damn fans tell them they like their handsome faces more than their music (something ironically similar to what their haters say), followed by another clip of them talking about their image & music, & how, yes, it does affect them. I have had it up to here with fans. Regardless, I will use this opportunity to post some EXO music, because clearly their fans’ priorities are different.

    That’s awful that they said that. The EXO guys are very handsome but to say that that is their favorite thing about them is ridiculous. They don’t deserve EXO’s music.

    It’s upsetting, but I’m not…. surprised??? The Korean society itself, let alone their entertainment industry, is all about appearances and keeping up appearances first and foremost, and “fake it ‘TIL you make it “ second… It is for this very reason that the entertainment industry has such a big influence on the S.Korean society and why—in the words of veteran actor, Lee Soon Jae, but paraphrased— ‘actor’s are not formal public figures (much like politicians are) according to societal standards, but they (entertainers) hold the same influence as public figures toward the audience and youth’

    Sadly once musicians began appearing on television looks began to count as much as, or more than, musical talent. I think many talented people are considered commodities (valued for the money they bring in). It’s always bothered me.
