Nam Sang-mi joins Life Is Beautiful

A leading lady has been selected for the next drama from hit writer Kim Soo-hyun, called Life Is Beautiful: bubbly actress Nam Sang-mi. Nam just wrapped up her last drama, the good-natured but underperforming romantic comedy series Invincible Lee Pyeong-gang, and now will join Song Chang-eui, who has been cast as the lead.

Life Is Beautiful will be a weekend series airing on SBS, and is highly anticipated because writer Kim has produced hit after hit with dramas like Mom’s Dead Upset and My Man’s Woman. In fact, since 2000, she has written six dramas, all of which have passed 20% ratings. The show is set on Jeju Island and will include familiar members from Kim’s pool of returning actors like Jang Mi-hee, Kim Hae-sook, and Kim Sang-joong.

According to Nam Sang-mi’s management, the actress participated in the script rehearsal on January 7, where she met the writer for the first time. In contrast to her usual bright and lively image, she’ll play a calm, composed character in this show. Life Is Beautiful will air in March.

I guess I'll be adding this drama to my ever growing list of Asian dramas to watch in 2010. Nam Sang-mi is one of my favorite Korean actresses and one of the first I ever saw in a drama; I didn't watch Invincible Lee Pyeong-gang, but I think this drama will be a good addition.

Hmm, I don't think I've watched any of the scriptwriter's dramas before, but I have heard good things about some of them.

I haven't seen anything with this pretty young woman in it thus far, but knowing that the cast includes the always marvelous Kim Hae-Sook assures me that the veteran presense will be well represented. Sunbae Kim can out act many actors using just one finger (sometimes literally, as those who viewed her in the last year's hit horror movie 'Thirst' can well attest...) I don't always like her characters, but I always admire her work as an actress. I suspect that will be fun to get to know the "bubbly actress" Nam Sang-mi as well.

i have come to like Nam Sang Mi over the last few years with her projects. I think she can pull off being dramatic (TBDW with Lee Jun Ki) and being spunky and bright (Bad Family/Gourmet). I am currently watching her latest drama.

As for the lead actor, I have only seen him in Golden Bride and loved him there.

One more drama on my list to anticipate!!

I have seen her only in TBDW and Bad Family. She was winsome in BF but was playing the typical Kdrama perky girl. I prefer her in TBDW and her chemistry with LJK was great. i like the way she emotes with her eyes. Her haunted look whenever she saw the lookalike of her dead boyfriend was very powerful.
What I love about her is she's so natural and unselfconscious in front of the camera. It's a pleasure to watch her on screen.

Just look at the picture above, I'm a woman but darn it she makes me melt with her sweetness and charm.

@ Sonam

'I prefer her in TBDW and her chemistry with LJK was great"

I second that wholeheartedly. TODAW is my fave Nam Sang-mi drama, and my fave Junki drama - I can watch it over and over again. I can't say I liked NSM's character in TODAW *that* much, but she was necessary to the story and the relationship was very sizzling.

I'm looking forward to this new drama.

That's great, I really liked her in TBDW. Serious character suits her more. She was not bad in Invincible Lee Pyeong-gang but wayyyy better in TBDW. Ya ! her chemistry with LJK was great.

@ockoala
Yes, look at that perfect smile. Such a pretty mouth and the dimple. But its her eyes I love the most. I am so glad she will playing a calm composed character....it will bring out her beauty. The lively perky character she has played in the past makes her seem like just another pretty charming girl but I think she could easily play a complex sophisticated beauty . We saw glimpses of that in TBDW. So I am really looking forward to Life is Beautiful. I stopped watching IPYG because she was playing the typical spirited Kdrama girl and that's become so boring and predictable for me now.

I can't wait to see her in a new drama on March --- Yay!

Yeah, I'd also like to know some feedback on Invincible Lee Pyeong-gang. I saw some YT clips last night out of boredom and Seo Do Young's acting is surely up several notches from Spring Waltz days. His is a secondary role but he looks more mature, attractive and relaxed than in SW.

Wow what a beautiful photo............. and I do not mean any disrespect I just got thru reading an article about Kim Bum and Maja Salvador ( one of the famous actresses on Philippine TV at the moment ) and at first glance I thought it was Maja and it was Nam .
Can not wait to see the drama Life is beautiful.

haha...anyhow, I have a soft spot for her. She has untapped potential for sure. Invincible is fun and all but it's not challenging for her. I would love to see her in a new role! :)

Nam Sang-mi is also one of my favourite Korean actresses and I'll always give her dramas a chance. Unfortunately, ILPG was just another run-of-the-mill kdrama for me and I stopped watching after 7 episodes. Hope she'll get a chance to showcase her elegant and sophisticated side in her new role!
