Kim Hye-sung considers early army entry

This is rather late to be hearing about casting news, but rising actor Kim Hye-sung (Unstoppable High Kick, Boy Meets Boy) is another notable young face to look for in the upcoming Korean War movie Into the Gunfire, which is currently filming and stars a number of well-known names. (Kwon Sang-woo and TOP play soldiers who lead a small but determined corps of student troops who fight invading North Korean forces. Kim Seung-woo and Cha Seung-won play military officers on opposing sides of the conflict.)

Kim Hye-sung plays one of the 71 student soldiers defending their home turf against invaders. The film is said to hold particular meaning for the actor, because he is considering fulfilling his military obligation this year, which is on the early side for a celebrity. (While most citizens complete their army duty out of high school or college, often actors choose to cram as much work as possible into their schedules before enlisting at the last possible moment, in the year that they turn 28. Kim is 22.)

Into the Gunfire is currently filming and is planning for a summer theatrical release, to coincide with the 60-year anniversary of the Korean War.

He is certainly a beauty, and I like how he often takes on more risky roles rather than simply relying on his looks. He's like Chun Jung-Myung in that he'll be able to play much younger for years, if he so chooses.

How old is he?

He wants to get it over with, which I think is not a bad move.

I always thought it was better for actors to do their service early as possible. It's kind of sad how actors try to get popular but than suddenly have to go away for 2 years.

Didn't Kwon Sang Woo do his military service before entering into the entertainment career? Which is why he didn't have to worry about a 2 year absence?

I would like to comment that I admire the young men who do mandatory military service for their country. I know this will get me into some hot water....but the United States would benefit if they would have such a ruling once again. I know a very long time ago young men had to register with the selective service for draft into the military. Too many people see that as a "war" kind of training....and it really isn't when you're being trained for defense of a country. The whole concept is also discipline.....my 2 sons who are in their 40's now both went into the reserves (Air Force and Marines)....it sure made a difference in their basic training and attitude. And you know....2 years is not a very long time....but it sure is a positive way for a male to make changes in his life.

Best wishes to this young man who really looks like he could be the sibling to the character of Jun-ha in Catch a Falling Star!

He should go now. After the army, he can do any movie or drama that he want without feeling burdened by army. Well, maybe for the occasional army training but go now. Just like Kwon Sang Woo going before he is famous. Unlike his good friend... ha ha ha...

Oh, he was Juno on Jenny Juno? He has grown up, but still cute.

I think so too, it's better to serve army as soon as possible than you have to leave when you start to get famous - it's like losing the momentum.

@5 Biscuit:
I agree with you! I think artists and actors should go the army before they become super famous (just like Kwon Sang Woo and 2AM's singer Changmin). Isn't it much better to work not having to think when you'll have to put your career on hiatus to go to the army and be one of the 'old' soldiers and have the risk of when you comeback from the army nobody remembers about you anymore?
Besides that, I think all famous people that go to the army should go to regular army training instead of working on radio, play or offices like most of them do... :/
I don't know many famous guys that went to regular training (the type that requires them to get dirty and to more dangerous and difficult jobs)... The only ones I know are Won Bin (he went to work next North Korea) and Kim Tae Woo (g.o.d singer)... As far as I know, all the rest went to easy office jobs on the army.
I like Kim Dong Wan (of Shinhwa) A LOT (he's a wity and funny guy. And I liked his solos albums), I always read his blog, but based on the things he post on his blog, it seems as if he is in vacations instead of being in the army. :/ Just like KangTa that is only involving himself in plays, music concerts on the army... and no other complicated army job.
