Song Seung-heon’s invisible love

Okay, I’m just going to say it. No one should be doing a Ghost remake. And even if someone were to undertake that folly, Song Seung-heon should not be starring in it. I mean, can anyone suppress the laughter? What were they thinking? Is it perhaps a comedy?

Sadly, no. It wasn’t made as a comedy, but it certainly will be one, to me anyway.

This remake of Ghost, called Ghost: Invisible Love (I kid you not. That’s the literal title. Snerk.) is a Korean-Japanese-American co-production, starring Song opposite Matsushima Nanako (The Ring).

They actually recreated the same scene from the original 1990 film, starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. Oh, you know the one. Don’t pretend you don’t. For some strange reason, I can’t ever look at a pottery wheel without that damn Ghost soundtrack playing in my head. Damn you, Swaaaaayzeee!

Song starred in another remake this year (Invincible), and will be starring in the rom-com drama My Princess early next year. Ghost: Invisible Love hits theaters November 25.

It looks extremely cheesy and 90s.

"I can’t ever look at a pottery wheel without that damn Ghost soundtrack playing in my head."

LOL, the same happens to me! I really can't understand how an average movie like that has been messing with our minds for 20 years.

I suppose those who are on inclined in movie productions can be the one qualified to fairly judge such movies.

I love how the Korean actor Song Seung Heon acted in this movie. Given the fact that he's not that good in speaking Japanese, he has done his best in doing it and I'll give him an excellent remark to that. Though, he has only few dialogues in this movie, I can say that he's a great actor for i can feel what he is trying to express through his act and literally, that is how an outstanding actor is defined!

GO SONG SEUNG HEON! People around the world not only Koreans, admire you for your great achievements!

I like him too but she is kinda old for him. She was really young when I first saw her drama with Yutaka... sometime back called Ice++, at that time she is really so pretty. But now, you can tell that she has done so much on her face to prevent getting old. Aya Ueto or Mari Horikita can be better match. Well, that's just my opinion. I may be wrong. Let's see.

I SUPPOSE THOSE WHO ARE INCLINED IN MOVIE PRODUCTIONS CAN BE THE ONE QUALIFIED TO JUDGE SUCH MOVIES.

I LOVE HOW THE KOREAN ACTOR SONG HEUNG HEON ACTED IN THIS MOVIE. GIVEN THE FACT THAT HE'S NOT THAT GOOD IN SPEAKING JAPANESE, HE HAS DONE HIS BEST IN DOING IT AND I'LL GIVE HIM AN EXCELLENT REMARK TO THAT. THOUGH, HE HAS INLY FEW DIALOGUES IN THIS MOVIE, I CAN SAY THAT HE'S A GREAT ACTOR FOR I CAN FEEL WHAT HE IS TRYING TO EXPRESS THROUGH HIS ACTING SKILLS AND LITERALLY, THAT IS HOW AN OUTSTANDING ACTOR IS DEFINED.

Or, you could make up your own mind. Like most actors, he has some skill and he's shown to best advantage in some works, while in others, he's not done so well.

Just thinking out loud, here, but if you're old enough to type and be on this blog, then you are probably old enough to decide for yourself whether you like someone's acting. :) It never helps to start by thinking, "He's a bad actor because someone said so." You'll be able to decide without anyone else's opinion.

It's a good thing there's a wide variety of actors and dramas for us to choose from, if we are all agreeables, this would be a very boring DB.

I'm surprised that they didn't remake it earlier. I feel like the storyline is right up the korean movie/drama ally.

Regarding SSH, at least it's a movie and not a drama. A movie is shorter and you don't HAVE to watch it. A drama is like 8 times the length of a movie and you can't avoid it if that's the only thing on tv that seems barely interesting.

Well, IMO KHJ can't be called a good actor yet, but I think some people give him more credit based on the fact that he didn't start and known as an actor, but as an idol singer who didnt have any acting experience or lesson before. And he only did 2 dramas so far, so when KHJ did a quite good job ppl will give him credit and appreciate him for that.
But SSH is known as an actor and has been in acting industry for about 10 years, so acting should be the one thing that he excels in, right? Maybe that's why many people will bash him more because they think he can't act well while he is an actor. But for me SSH is not that bad though..

Originals will always be better than remakes depends on how one look at both.
I think on this one Nanako will be the Ghost not Song.......quite excited to see this one I will probably have to wait for it on a dvd since it will never be shown here in the USA where I am unless I am in Los Angeles.
Whether it flies or not both are very pretty actors to look at that is for sure.

Maria is right, Nanako will be the Ghost - not SSH. Unless there's some sort of TWIST! at the end or something.

If you want to inflict some pain on your eyes/ears you can check out the trailer at NipponCinema.com, it's not the same story per-say, it's just taking ripping off the iconic scenes. Like any classy remake does. You're supposed to get a different feel from it. .. ... . . . ... lazy bastar-

"Maybe you might know…but in terms of star power how does SSH compare to LBH, WB, and JDG?"

In Asia, he's arguably Korea's top international star. Thanks to GI Joe, and Iris and Hero, LBH is probably #1 in Japan now, but Song Seung Heon is bigger in China and Taiwan. Or put it another way, I've seen East of Eden in Chinese. ;)

Arguably.

This is just the mainland aspect.

'Hallyu' the label itself is passe in China and TW. The fan-ahjummas still like them some Hallyu Kings, but they have their own shiny HXM and WZ pets now, who r in essence the shiny pretty SSH's clones. Before the Hallyu wave, China is swept by the TVB golden age, and if they can lap up the acting towards the end of that, everything Hallyu ie SSH is solidly good. C audience REALLY loves their typecasting and SSH is feeding everything the fan-ahjummas want most in their idol-pet.

EoE being dubbed in Chin is nth, they do dub everything a certified 'hit' in ratings in Chinese, I've seen Jumong on repeat ad nauseum, On Air and Last Scandal are also run repeatedly. QSD was in both mando and Canto dubs right after its real time run in Korea.

EoE hits a very soft spot for the C fans and I cant credit SSH for it...thanks to TVB mega hit Ooku copycat War and Beauty, we're now having rehashes of female centric catfights every episode in half the dramas. Audiences missed those epic OTT transgeneration makjang they used to churn out...and we have EoE to the rescue! It's so down to every comforting nostalgic element of that SSH howl of his dongseng (still ringing in my ears...blergh), it's not an epic if u dont have such that everybody is imitating and loling at. It's genius in calculation to hold the C market in captivity.

The newer generation of C Kdrama fangirls are less drawn by the whole Hallyu hoopla stemming fr any single mega hit drama. I would be shocked to see Baker Boy gaining a seat in popularity despite the phenom rating that would be a sure win in yesteryears.

Cards are shuffled quite few years ago. Name recognition it's still the Hallyu Kings but they are not as marketable for the recent Kdrama fans. I would say LJK is leading the pack for that Top Star spot EVEN in MS. Then there's Rain. JGS, LMH, KHJ (he's so gobbling up every one of SSH's fangirls) are shooting right up. JHyukkie, JJH, HBinnie have a solid cushy following.

and we havent count the SuJu/JYJ/DBSK boys! They r acting now and the Cassies managed to outnumber ANDY LAU's fans in Shanghai fundraiser :O !!! I'm still in disbelief.

"‘Hallyu’ the label itself is passe in China and TW."

That's true. My mom is a good example of that. (From a Chinese perspective, sageuks often feel like comic book versions of Mainlander historical dramas. And in that way, they're MIGHTY ENTERTAINING ;) )

For that reason, it's also hard to expect another K-drama star to come up and approach, say, Ahn Jae Wook's popularity in the Mainland or Chae Rim's popularity in Taiwan. Unless of course, a Chae Rim, Jang Nara or Cha In Pyo work at establishing themselves in China.

"and we havent count the SuJu/JYJ/DBSK boys! "

Yeah, I feel the total "idolization" of Hallyu is inevitable, because that is just how it's done everywhere else. Especially for Hallyu to really cross over with the Japanese fangirls as well as raise interest with the next generation of Sinos. Korea's always done a marvelous job with promoting actors like Song Seung Heon or Lee Jung Ki with idol-style fanmeets, but there's an inherent ceiling with that. Jang Geun Suk and Lee Min Ho may very well be the last of the generation.

"I would say LJK is leading the pack for that Top Star spot EVEN in MS"

Korean fangirls love Lee Jung Ki; Chinese fangirls REALLY love Lee Jung Ki. I know we've talked about this before, but LJK SSSSOOOOO has that old-school Cantopop Heavenly King vibe about him.

Rest be assured . .. if Lee Jung Ki is not satisfied with Korea, we'll gladly take him. Play his cards right, and maybe he'll become the K-drama Kobe Bryant in China lol.

"I’ve seen Jumong on repeat ad nauseum, On Air and Last Scandal are also run repeatedly"

Yeah, I think that Channel 18 ended up showing On Air two or three times in Chinese because it was so popular. I think I actually saw East of Eden in Vietnamese also, but I'm not sure.

"EoE hits a very soft spot for the C fans and I cant credit SSH for it…"

I think conceptually, EofE really was meant to be a updated version of Sandglass. But, yeah, East of Eden really feels like a throwback HK family saga . . . though not done . . . that .. . .well.

Saying this as a fan of SSH's and his good looks, I think his acting is passable because there are some who are worse than him. I loved EoE and SSH, so I don't understand why he and Kim tae -hee are frequently dissed in forums for not being able to act. I mean, KTH, I agree but SSH??

His power is undeniable. He was love rivals with Lee Byung Hun in Happy Together . . . AND HE WON. That's right -- LBH, the man who owned Ryu Shi Won in Beautiful Together, the illegitimately immaculate father of my two kids Ji Hoo and Jung Pyo -- actually lost to SSH in a love triangle.
