Park Ha-sun visits Dr. Jin for extended cameo

I’m still iffy on Dr. Jin, MBC’s new weekend time-traveling medical fusion sageuk (Episode 1 was SO uneven), but here’s something to look forward to: Park Ha-sun, who earned quite a bit of praise playing gentle-hearted Queen In-hyun in Dong Yi, will be appearing in a guest stint on the drama.

With her role spanning two episodes, it’ll be longer than your regular cameo, and it sounds like her character will be a featured player in her episodes. Park will be acting as a “special gisaeng” who plays a key role in Dr. Jin’s (Song Seung-heon) development of penicillin. Huh, so they’re just going to alter history, are they? I wonder if the drama will try to explain all the logical loopholes that form when its title character jumps back in time and does things in 19th-century Joseon that contradict history. (I do appreciate how Queen In-hyun’s Man deals with the concept of the shifting realities and histories when its hero’s knowledge of the future changes his actions in his own time period. But then again, I pretty much appreciate everything about that show.)

Park Ha-sun will have a loveline with Lee Beom-soo, who plays the quirky character of Lee Ha-eung, a relative of the royal clan despite his profligate ways who becomes Dr. Jin’s Joseon guide-friend-sidekick. Ha-eung is probably my favorite character so far, so I’ll be glad to see him getting a little loving; on the other hand, Park Ha-sun won’t be sticking around for the whole series, so it can’t be too much of a romance.

I’m a new fan of Park Ha-sun; I thought she was good in Dong Yi, but since I didn’t watch that show aside from an episode here or there, it was High Kick 3 that showed me how versatile and committed an actor she is. I wasn’t sure I’d be sticking around for the rest of Dr. Jin, but I’ll want to catch her appearance.

Park’s stint begins in Episode 6, which airs June 10.

I am here because you said Queen In-hyun.
My brain felt the words from across the interwebs, and I had to read this story.
I am not at all completely obsessed.

You guys are hilarious! Personally, I try really hard not to compare Queen In-hyun's Man with Dr. Jin despite the similar premise. It just makes the unevenness in Dr. Jin even more glaring!

I totally second that. I felt that PULL, even though I haven't read the whole news yet, the word QUEEN INHYUN'S MAN, called upon me to squee to my heart's content.

LOVE LIVE BOONGDO AND HEEJIN! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

BAHAHA nono, you are not at all obsessed. Because I felt that same pull and I'm not obsessed either. At all. So. Here we all are, reading and squeeing over an article that has nothing to do with QIHM, and only mentions its name in passing once.

No, I am NOT obsessed, I tell you!

Well, Dr Jin is alright for me, Im not sure whether or not SSH's eyes have a bit of the 'cancel out the mistakes' effect on me (^^) BUT I will be continuing to follow UNTIL I make my mind, whether my dapper brothers or a flimsy doctor will win the fight :)

Has anyone else seen the press-con videos for BIG?
Gong Yoo, Suzy and Lee Min Jung are hilarious together especially when suzy called gong yoo ahjussi lol

The three of them have so much chemistry together it's ridiculous.

Lee Beom-soo couldn't keep me in that train (and i love him a lot). I certainly will not stay for a cameo either. Even if it was a certain smexy scholar who found a magical cure against dementia... Wait, what's the name of that scholar again? Maybe the thing could become watchable...

SSH *invents* penicillin?! BAHAHA!

I'm watching Dr. Jin for the pretty, but man, there are so many cheesy voice-overs. Maybe if SSH could convey some more emotions he wouldn't have to tell us exactly what they were.

Second episode did not redeem itself, I'm afraid. Way too many convenient head injuries. The image of SSH poised to hammer into some poor guy's skull with a big wooden mallet was simultaneously disturbing and hilarious.

Here is the biggest loophole in the Korean version. In Japan, there is a significant history about the production of penicillin as early as 1948, that's why the story blends really with the history et al, because everything flows. Not sure how they're gonna do it with the Korean version. Seriously, I love the Japanese comic to death, I don't want to see it butchered.

Agreed..that's also what I've been saying. The strength of the j-dorama version is not only because of the actors, but their main point is the story itself.

As you said, the story blends well with the history; everything flows smoothly. The script, the execution, the supporting actors, even the extras, they complete the story. *sigh*

only the best time traveling show ever! Maybe not ever, but it handles the time traveling aspect the best way I've seen so far because it actually plays an active part in the storyline and not just a story-starter like RTP and Dr. Jin.

Yayy for a Dong Yi reunion! They should get the girl who played Dong Yi and the guy who played the King on the show too :P

PHS's QIH was the only thing about Dong Yi that I liked. So demure and pure and beautiful and as radiant as a thousand full moons. YIA is a fine Choi Heejin but Queen Inhyun will always be PHS's.

After watching the fabulous and ORIGINAL J-version, I am so not watching this K-version. No offense to Song's fans but he will kill the drama (never in my radar) and the scriptwriters will probably clobber it further with amnesia, draggy love dilemmas, reincarnations (???) and a truck if they can have their way. A humongous cart perhaps?? Moving on to Queen Inhyun ^^

It's difficult to watch Dr. Jin's fantasy ridiculousness while such a pitch-perfect QIHM is there to compare it to. The premise is similar but from then on, it's apples and oranges.

No amount of guest cameos is going to erase that DJ scene where Mr. Handtowel realizes that he's about to perform the FIRST JOSEON BRAIN SURGERY, EVER!! - throws his head back, eyes screwed shut, look of agony foremost on his handsome puss, to show us how into this scene he is...
it reminded me of Jon Lovitz (SNL) who coined the phrase "This is ACTING!!" to cover up his histrionic emoting.

It's a shame that SSH didn't realize his forte is light comedy - he should have waited for another rom/com.
:)

I haven't watched Jin yet but twitter tells me that episode 2 was much better executed than episode 1. I have to find the time to watch it though because of Jaejoong.
I LOVED PHS in Dongyi although I didn't like the drama as a whole. Really looking forward to this.

Wow, she looks different in the above picture - almost didn't recognize that she was from Dong Yi (I guess it is the modern clothes).

I am enjoying Dr. Jin (seems to be the minority here...). Even though I loved the J drama version, the Kdrama version so far seems pretty good. I really like how they ended episode 2, as it makes the Jin story more dramatic.

I like the story - both versions (whether it is realistic or not). I mean this is a time traveling FANTASY, so why does it have to always be "historically realistic?" Then it wouldn't be a fantasy anymore.

I'm also in the minority as I like it too. Maybe coz I knew it wudn't be as good as the j-version so I made peace with it and take it for what it is.

My first reaction when Park Ha-sun made her first appearance in Dong Yi: OMG, is that the queen, she's so beautiful.

And then: Sukjong you bastard, what are you doing running around after other women, with a queen like that?

And then: Jang Hui-bin, you evil woman, die! What are you doing to the lovely queen?

Well, she's one reason to watch a couple of episodes of Dr. Jin at least!

Let's give Dr. Jin a chance. The story might be all over the place now, but it might solidify after a few episodes. I prefer watching this show over Gentleman's Dignity

I liked her a lot in Dong Yi! Once she came back to the palace, I thought she was a lot more effective :) I will definitely be watching her in Dr Jin. Oh... how cute... her & LBS's character. :) love his character.

The "facts" in this series are just so hard to grasp. It's all over the place. But I kinda ignore it.

I thought for a while Park Ha-seon will be playing the very young (who probably wouldn't look like 13/14 anyways) Empress Myeongseong (given the fact that the Empress and Inhyeon belonged to the same clan, and the Empress was the descendant of one of her elder brothers (Min Yoo-jung))...

...but yeah, when I saw "...will have a loveline with Yi Ha-eung..." mind goes into overdrive. Maybe she's going to be the mother of Ha-eung's 3rd (illegitemate) child Yi Jae-seon???

She was in That Fool/Accidental Couple, and I appreciated her understated and dignified character there as the fiancee of the main girl's secret lover. I didn't see her other dramas, but from what little I saw of her work, I like her! Glad to see news items of her being cast in new dramas. That always means her star is rising, right?

Before you take a dig at the plot, you should watch the original series. This drama comes from a manga. And the japan version was good.
