News bites: January 3, 2016

  • Park Bo-gum will hold his first fan meeting on the day Answer Me 1988 concludes, January 16, at KBS arena, a space which fits 3,000 people. There are whispers some of his 1988 castmates might show up (although between it and I Remember You, he was the clear breakout). [TV Report]
  • While writer Park Ji-eun has received several lucrative offers (some that would initiate her into the 10 billion won club) since coming off of the success of You From Another Star and The Producers, she’s turned them all down and joined Jeon Ji-hyun’s agency Culture Depot, making good on their mutual promise to work together again. (Together, they gave us our best character of 2014!) After several long chats with Jeon, she’s verbally entered a contract to write for the agency, and the print version is currently being hammered out. Park is planning on a new show for the latter half of 2016, and there are rumors that Jeon might star in it as her post-childbirth comeback project. However, Jeon’s baby is due in February, and the agency was sure to temper rumors by saying it would be a very early comeback for the actress, she’s more focused on films these days than dramas, and that she wouldn’t rush to make a collaboration happen, especially since she and the writer will be working together “under one roof” going forward. [Munhwa]

  • Kim Yoon-seok, Shim Eun-kyung

  • Veteran actor Kim Yoon-seok has been cast as the lead in Will You Be There, a film based on an eponymous novel by French writer Guillaume Musso. Kim will play a surgeon who obtains magical pills that allow him to travel to the past, which he’ll use to save his previous lovers from death. The movie will be produced by Lotte Entertainment and directed by Hong Ji-young (Marriage Blue). Filming begins in March. [Osen]
  • Aww, yay! Shim Eun-kyung (Cantabile Tomorrow) has signed up for her first indie movie. She’s been cast as the lead in King of Walking, about a high school girl who was born with terrible motion sickness and thus is forced to walk two hours each way to and from school. (I’d have given up the first day!) Through chance she’ll begin preparing for a race (er, walk), and the friend she makes at the athletic club and the actual training for the competition will help her find her path in life. The movie will be directed by Baek Seung-hwa and begins filming in March. [Sports Chosun]
  • Rude Miss Young-ae fans, prepare for a shift. Head writer Myung Soo-hyun, who’s been with the show for ten seasons, has called the fourteenth season her last. Lead actress Kim Hyun-sook, Ra Mi-ran and other long-time cast members threw her a farewell party, and the assistant writers will step it up for the fifteenth season, which will air in the latter half of the year. [Sports Worldi]

  • Sulli, Kim Jong-kook, Hwang Sun-hee

  • It’s been confirmed that Sulli (Fashion King) is joining Kim Soo-hyun, Lee Sung-min, Sung Dong-il and more as a rehabilitation therapist in the upcoming action noir film Real. A CJ Entertainment source said, “[We’re] predicting that [she’ll] show a completely new allure,” which made me wonder if I should be reading between the lines — but that role went to Han Ji-eun (Coin Locker). Real begins filming this month. [Asia E]
  • They love him in China, and Kim Jong-kook is positively considering a leading role in an upcoming Chinese sageuk drama that will blend romance and modern elements. Between Running Man, solo concerts, advertisements and appearances on Chinese variety programs, he’s already popular there, and while he would need to tweak his packed domestic schedule to make it happen, I’m sure he’ll try his best to please his Chinese fans. (As he does in his recent music video — boy does Turbo’s comeback throw me way back into the late ‘90s!). [TV Report]
  • There’s been a late addition to One More Happy Ending: Hwang Sun-hee (Masked Prosecutor) will play an ob/gyn and the ex-wife of Kwon Yul in the show that premieres January 20 on MBC. [Osen]

Awwwww....... stars are surely lightning your path right now, Bo-gummie!!!!! Is it too much to ask for Seo In-guk to be among the attendees?? Or maybe joining on the stage singing one song or two??

Even though I haven't officially watched Answer Me 1988 (waiting for the wrap up so I don't need weekly suffer), I have been watching Taekie's parts in Youtube, and boy .... you couldn't be more adorable and cute than you are rite now. I'm not joining the guessing games but I sincerely hope the series give you the well-deserved girl/omma/motherly girl/girly omma at the end. I don't think my life can taek it if you're left alone.. hics..hics.. no caring soul has a heart to do that, right? right, writer-nim?

I think I'd actually die of happiness if Seo In-gook showed up at his fanmeeting - he'd be doubly perfect for it, as Park Bo-gum's drama hyung AND a predecessor as lead of the original Answer Me!

how to convince my employer that it would be very educational for a maritime museum employee to attend this meeting... um... can anyone find something maritime that would justify me asking to be sent there... quickly now!

You know how Min hides his victims' bodies in a crate and have it shipped, then thrown away in the middle of the sea? Very serious maritime-y case.

Right. So somebody needs to send a MEMO to In-Guk's agency saying that his presence in this fanmeeting is a MUST.

Have you heard about SBS is trying to score Park Shin Hye for Doctor? I haven't seen it on your side...

It' very different different with her previous roles. What do you think?

You reported all minor news but ignore that one... I didn't know DB doesn't like her

Lolwut? How is a rumour/unconfirmed-casting a more major news and report-worthy than solid, confirmed casting(s) (or in this case not even casting. Just a one-sided pursuit)?

Dramabeans has reported on un-confirmed casting rumors before though. Go back read, especially any of the News Bite sections.

They reported that Seolhyun was being considered for With God, even though it was unconfirmed and she ended up not taking the offer.

(I'm not saying the site is biased, but it's very common for them to write on casting rumors LOL...)

At that time, she was considered, but in the end she was dropped from the casting

You basically just repeated what I said in my earlier post.

Whether she was dropped or simply rejected the offer is neither here nor there. The point is that DB reports on casting rumors all the time, so it's surprising that PSH casting news was left out considering it's been going around for awhile now.

But okay.

0

I know that Dramabeans has reported on unconfirmed-possibly-happening-since-there-are-talks-but-ultimately-still-unconfirmed castings before but that's not my argument. I think the common misconception is that Dramabeans reports EVERYTHING in drama land, which it obviously does not and so whether the site reports on rumors of a drama possibly considering her or not indicates nothing regarding their thoughts about her.

My issue is with the very unique logic-train displayed in the last line where Right calls the above news "minor" implying that Park ShinHye's rumor is more major than what has been reported here (which I don't agree with - see original comment) which then suddenly leaps into the accusation that "DB doesn't like her". Uh? Maybe I'm sensitive because this is the sort of thinking that starts mud-slinging.

And anyways, awcoconuts could just be sitting on the news until more information comes up (which would then make Rights "accusation" not-so-cute.

It's her blog, she can write whatever she wants really...

You can always bring that up in open thread or in comments if you want people to know?

Like how I want everyone to know that apparently SK viewers really LOVE Splash Splash love and they strongly demand a second season.

Let me spread this joy to you all *squeeeee*

I can live without a second season of SSL because the two episodes we did get were so perfect, but I demand that Yoon Doojoon and Kim Seul-gi be cast together again as romantic leads! Maybe if I type it often enough, the Force will heed my prayers and make it happen....

I agree that it might be difficult to do another season that is just as magical as the first, since it was wrapped up so nicely. But please Drama Gods, give Doojoon and KSG another rom-com together! This is the first time I've wanted two actors to be paired up so badly that I'm constantly checking to see if they have lined up next projects. Maybe it's because, compared to the drama norm, two episode simply doesn't give enough time for viewers to satisfy themselves with the characters' chemistry and then slowly let them go.

It's really amazing that we're not the only ones clamouring for them to be together again. But with their sizzling chemistry and a great demand, there's a high possibility of them being in another project! (Hopefully not SSL 2 though, the drama ended nicely)

C'mon drama gods, hear our prayers!!

People on instiz and pann were talking about it and saying that the head pastor of that church is very controversial hmmm. This makes me worried.

It just looks like a Evangelistic church to me. I'm not religious, but I've been to churches with family and seen people speaking in tongues and getting the spirit and so forth. Not that the video doesn't look weird, but it just doesn't look particularly unusual to me.

Yeah the video IS creepy, but definitely not that unusual. Nonetheless, the thing that worried me is not the video, but the reputation of the pastor. He's got a massive following of people and if he's manipulating them like what was said on the korean sites, then that's very worrying.

Anybody can translete the Korean word? If it just speaking in tongues and about holly spirit, it is not cult. It's just Charismatic Christian. For Protestan and Chatolic Christian or other religius it's maybe weird and creepy, but it is not cult, just they have their own way for doing their serve.
The problem is the pastor's messages, if he twist the messages from the Bible.

Required fields are marked *

I mean if his messages is for peoples follow him and serve him as god, now... that's a problem.
But if he just do some exorcist and miracle healing and so on, i don't think it's unusual or devil's cult.
Some religius people have that gift, and peoples who not understand get scare and judge them.
We really need to know what he said or teaching to that peoples to sure.
I also go to church like this, we have some miracle healing happen in our church, but they keep teach us to just put our hope and faith in Jesus, not human. Even someone with miracle gift from God, still can do mistake or sin. There is nobody perfect as long as we still life in world, but that doesn't mean God can't use them who still not perfect to make a miracle.

Looking at the website for "Jesus Centered Church," it's about praising God. I wonder if people think the pastor is like the TV evangelists that tell viewers to send all their money?

0

Required fields are marked *

well, isn´t any religion just a cult though? if you believe in something that is obviously not real just because others believe in it, that´s a cult. all that miracle healing, cmon. if you think a little with...[redfox swallows up a remark that might be taken the wrong way], it is a hoax. actually, ordinary religious swindlers are harmless. it gets serious, when they mix up the cult beliefs with law and apply it against human rights.

"Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people". Karl Heinrich Marx
Religion is so useful in our neo-"liberal" socioeconomic system, the same way it helped capitalism before; it gives hope to billions of people in order to cope with poverty and misery everywhere on this planet. That's why it can never become obsolete, unless in a perfect society (Plato's "Utopia").

It's like the Born Again churches here in the Philippines. They have their own way of worship. It's not really as creepy as you think. As far as I know, they give 10% of their earnings to their church and they don't have any religious statues inside their church.

As for him following a cult....man this reminds me of the first time I heard of Tom Cruise being a oart of Scientology. Seeing how a cult actually ruins his marriages (Nicole Kidman.... Then later Katie Holmes), I'm quite worried for him too :(

I do agree this is not true though. Park is very cute and handsome, made many girls fancy for him. But involing a close relationship is totally different. To be honest, I don't think many girls can accept boyfriend 10 years younger than herself. May be I'm too conservative.

I sincere hope Park does have a happy personal life. I will be happy for him if he has a close relationship with a good girl.

BTW, isn't Jang shooting a new drama "One More Happy Ending" with Jung Kyung Ho?
