Yoo Yeon-seok, Yoon Shi-yoon

  • Here are more casting updates for Jang Ryul’s Chunmong, which has cast three actor-directors as men in love with the same girl (Han Yeri): Yoo Yeon-seok (Warm and Cozy) joins as a man with a mysterious aura and cold eyes. Those very same eyes draw Han Yeri in, and because of her attraction, Yoo will be hated by the trio of men who love her. Shin Mina is indeed onboard for a guest spot in the movie, as is Kim Tae-hoon (both were in Gyeongju). Finally, Kim Eui-sung (Six Flying Dragons) and Jo Dal-hwan (Sweet Savage Family) have also been cast in unspecified roles in Jang’s first comedy film. [Xports News]
  • Could Yoon Shi-yoon (Prime Minister and I) be joining the third season of 1 Night 2 Days? A report was issued that Yoon would begin filming soon as the newest 1N2D member, but subsequent interviews with PD Yoo Hyo-jin disclosed that, although a meeting with Yoon had taken place, talks are being held with several potential cast members and that it will likely be April before a replacement for Kim Joo-hyuk (who departed in December) is announced. [TV Report, DongA, Joongang]
  • Yay for Park Hae-jin — his latest Chinese drama Far Away Love has received an incredible response online, and has averaged 100 million views per day. [TV Report]

  • L. Joe, Gong Myung, Lee Tae-sun

  • Entertainer, the show about a former top talent agent (Ji Sung) who launches an entertainment company of his own, is wrapping up a casting spree. In addition to Chae Jung-ahn and Jung Man-shik, Ahn Nae-sang (Awl) is joining as a record distributor who is firmly Team Ji Sung. Jeon No-min (Six Flying Dragons) will play a director at a rival agency who has a cutting sense of judgment behind his gentle smile. [Sports Chosun]
  • Ji Sung’s protégés and the bandmates of lead vocalist Kang Min-hyuk in Entertainer have also been cast. Gong Myung (of 5urprise, Beautiful You) is a guitarist who studied at Juilliard. L. Joe (of Teen Top) is a drummer who attends an elite university — he fell into drumming as he was looking for something to beef up his specs. And Lee Tae-sun rounds out the band as a bassist and single dad with a 5-year-old son. Entertainer will follow Come Back, Ajusshi on SBS on Wednesdays and Thursdays. [Xsports News]
  • Lightly, Ardently, the showbiz melodrama starring Kim Woo-bin and Suzy, finally has an airdate — it premieres June 29 and will air on Wednesdays and Thursdays on KBS after God of Noodles, which follows Descended From the Sun. [Star News]

  • New Journey to the West

  • It’s confirmed, New Journey to the West will be broadcast on tvN. The second season begins online April 19 and will continue for 8 weeks, and it will also be edited for a TV audience (read: more family-friendly) and air on Friday nights with a three-day lag, beginning April 22. Youths Over Flowers in Africa concludes April 1, and the first season of New Journey to the West will be re-broadcast during the two weeks prior to the premiere of season two. [TV Report]
  • That was quick. A return to tvN is in store for Jang Hyun-sung (Signal), who will play a character important to story development in Dear My Friends, which launches on the cable channel in May. The drama from writer Noh Hee-kyung about “youths in their twilight years” will feature Go Hyun-jung and a star-studded cast. [TV Report]
  • Filming has begun on Shim Eun-kyung‘s first independent film, King of Walking. Her character is a high school student born with terrible motion sickness, requiring her to walk four hours to/from school. Known for walking everywhere, she and a sunbae (Park Joo-hee) will train to participate in a national convention. Kim Sae-byuk plays a homeroom teacher championing her efforts, while Heo Jung-do is her athletic coach. The film will be directed by Baek Seung-hwa and distributed by CGV Arthouse. [Herald]

Gah, Hyeri is also confirmed for Enterntainer, so it'll be Ryu Joonyeol & Hwang Jung Eum vs. Ji Sung and Hyeri!

That almost makes me want to laugh. Funny how that worked out though.

I don't want to sound aggressive, but, as long as they aren't romantically involved, of course. It would be disgusting. People should stop making huge age differences "normal" or "cool", because they aren't. Seeing how they wanted PBG is this drama, there is no romance for them, I guess.

And I think MBC should try to rest Hwang Jung Eum and Jang Nara images. They put them in too many meaningless romantic stories.

Sorry if I'm being too aggressive, but dramas have been annoying me a lot. I'm really sorry. I'm not even going to talk about DOTS in here.

Just b/c there is a wide age gap btwn actors doesn't mean that there will be one btwn their characters.

And besides, pairing an older male actor w/ a younger actress has long been an industry staple (ever since the advent of the "moving pictures" industry).

Pretty sure the loveline is between Hyeri-Minhyuk and Ji Sung-Chae Jung Ahn.

Otherwise yeah, that'd so weird... even weirder than Lee Soon-shin.

I also love how Ahn Nae-sang is onboard and is on Ji Sung's side this time, when he played Dohyun's abusive father in KMHM.

I am getting hot-mess vibes from Entertainer but I trust Ji Sung a lot so I'll go for it.
HJE and RJY's drama sounds adorable as heck

I love Park Hae Jin, but watching him with someone else's voice is just weird and awkward.

My exact reason for not tuning to any of his chinese dramas. I love his voice and I dont like them dubbing his voice - its just weird! This goes for all k-actors that choose to do chinese dramas: siwon, lee jong seok, yoon shi yoon, etc And the plots always seem to be mind-numbingly stupid as well (some not all, i would like to add)

I looked up a clip of Park Haejin's cdrama just to see how the dubbing goes for kactors. Above the different voice, the most hilarious part was how it seems like he was the only one studio-dubbed. So when others speak you can hear typical background buzzing but then once he speaks it's dead silence and his voice is more crisp. It switches back and forth like that when he has dialogue with other people, it cracked me up. I hope the other cdramas fare better since Park Haejin's did seem a bit low budget.

Hahaha, that's so awkward! I watched the long preview for that drama and it looked SO CHEESY on TOP of the dubbing! Oh gosh, I'm just gonna wait for oppa' next Korean project–hopefully it's soon and it's that Man to Man one!

I didn't mind him nor that strange voice, but the heroine in the Chinese drama was soooo annoying I had to stop watching.

Yay for Lightly, Ardently on finally securing a time slot. It seems like KBS will be on roll this year.

I don't think God of Noodles (which will follow DOTS) will do so well, its just my thought. But I think Lightly, Ardently will definitely spike up the ratings too. Maybe not as much as DOTS, but definitely over 15%.

Lets not discount Entertainer. That writer had some bad (drama) and more good (movies). If Ji Sung Ssi thought that the script wasnt good, he wouldnt have taken this project after winning Daesang.

I know people are going to disagree with me but the scripts of his previous dramas were terrible so I wouldn't assume this one's good just because Jisung agreed to it. KMHM was a mess though I can at least understand why people liked it, while Secret was some mixture of makjang-and-fanfic bullshit and I don't understand why it gets praise.

Lol at Secret. It received much praise? Had no idea. I did love it though as it was highly addictive and because of the good acting and sizzling chemistry of the OTP. I watched it in one go and loved it but I wouldn't rewatch it lol.

His choices of scriptis is really awful but he definitely has the acting talent to justify any ridiculous character written.... really curious how he would act if he's given a tightly written plots like liar game or signal.. we may never know if he chooses dramas like this..

The writer does seem difficult to pin down. I agree that the movies are better than the dramas but they're still a mixed bag, and Yoo Young-Ah does not appear to have been the main writer of most of them. And yes, Ji Sung has been in quite a lot of badly written shows. It's been almost 3 years, but I still haven't got over how spectacularly loony Secret is.

I hate Jang Hyun-sung, he's everywhere nowadays, and always take villain roles

Yes he does seem rather ubiquitous doesn't he. But he's such a fantastic actor. Judging from the sheer number of brilliant dramas and films he's appeared in, he either has impeccable taste, or people just trust him to bring complexity and depth to supporting roles in well-written stories. Or both. I guess you could say he plays villains in, say, A Wife's Credentials, Assembly and Signal, but by golly those villains are completely distinct characters who live and breathe even though you might want to clobber them.

O yes he is great is t he. I always perk up a little more whenever he appears onscreen. I have dubbed him evil bae, whenever I see him I know ill be invested enough I the drama to hate him.

I hope it's not a villain role(which is likely since Dear My Friends, if I'm not wrong, is kind of a slice of life?). Still haven't gotten over Kim Bum Joo.

He did have a character that is not evil in last year's Heard It Through the Grapevine, in which he is a man who struggles financially but nevertheless cares for his family.
