Intensely focused for Hospital Ship’s first script read

Touted as a human medical drama, MBC’s Hospital Ship just had its first script read recently. I didn’t realize how much I had missed seeing Ha Ji-won (The Time I’ve Loved You) onscreen until these photos popped up. Although I’m still unsure of a loveline between her and Kang Min-hyuk (Entertainer) given their large age difference, everyone does look excited for their first meeting all together.

Hospital Ship is focused on a crew of doctors who go on life-saving missions in remote islands with little to no access to any medical care. Ha Ji-won plays a cold, charismatic, skillful surgeon who is completely out of her depth (pun intended) when she somehow lands on this ship, where everything is done with warmth and human emotion. This is a 180-degree contrast to Kang Min-hyuk’s character, who has a background in internal medicine and a compassionate soul that fits right in onboard. Then we have Lee Seo-won (The Liar and His Lover) who plays an oriental medicine doctor who is friendly with others but exudes a deep sense of inner loneliness.

PD Park Jae-bum announced at the script reading: “As [Hospital Ship’s] captain, I will try my best to make sure our voyage is smooth and enjoyable.” Others that were present at the script read include more members of the doctor crew, including a refreshingly non-ambitious dentist played by Kim In-shik and a nurse whose effervescent presence alone breathes energy into the workings of the hospital, played by AOA’s Min-A (All About My Mom). Then we have the older members of our cast, which include Kim Kwang-kyu (Hwarang) as the manager of the ship who brought Ha Ji-won’s character onboard, Jung Kyung-soon (Thief-nim, Thief-nom) playing the fearless veteran nurse, and of course, the ship’s captain played by Lee Han-wi (Introverted Boss).

Overall, I’m ecstatic to see my drama goddess Ha Ji-won again so that The Time I’ve Loved You can be erased from my memory forever. Wednesday-Thursday drama Hospital Ship will begin in August, following the end of Man Who Dies to Live, the fantasy family drama that starts next week.

Oh my goodness, what an adorable cast. I don't normally care for medical dramas at all, but this is pulling me in because I love everyone.

I'd be okay if this drama doesn't have loveline at all between leads. If it does, I hope it'll be good as I am not really into noona romance.

It'll be good if they make this drama like Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim, where HJW plays the role of HSK aka Teacher Kim. Everyone of the casts gravitate toward her character. So there's no need to add a loveline. Or just like in RTDK, admiration instead of love. It'll be cool.

the funnier part is.. 35ish gong yoo with 24 ish girl was a problem... but no body has issues with noona romance.. or even with Mr. sunshine

(not you.. but observation based on the uproar in other threads vs this)

I'm not really into a noona romance, so it would be fine to have none at all! I always get pulled in when it's a medical drama so you can count on me watching ^_^

But, if there is a noona romance, please drama gods let it be delivered nicely.

too many medical dramas.. will this one strike gold.. i want it to be a hit because of min hyuk... long time he gets a hit.. else journey will just get more tough..

but then i also want this drama to fail so that they can temprory put a lid on medical drama.. and continue focusing on thriller, law, mysteries and romances

well. i am bored with that trope and the same thing happening again and again... PSH's drama was boring.. and that other one with the actress from oh hae young..

if this turns into a big success.. channels will focus more on medical again.. and other genres may not get their due..

so my personal wish.. i hope no medical drama finds success.. unless the drama is truly different

Yeah I sort of get your point. I'm not a big fan of medical dramas but I did watch both of them until the end and dont understand the high ratings too.

I have missed Ha Ji-won so much, and I might be one of the only people who actually enjoyed The Time We Were Not In Love. I'm hoping there's no love line between any of the characters in this drama, well not the leads anyway because that would be so uncomfortable to watch. Lee Seo-won and Kang Min-hyuk look like babies next to Ha Ji-won. Praying that this is a good show that would make me cry a lot of emotional tears.

Because Kang Min-hyuk looks way too baby-faced for Ha Ji-won. And, Eun-tak was supposed to be that young. It's already hard to believe that Kang Min-hyuk is old enough to be a Doctor on the same level as Ha Ji-won, and while I love that boy he doesn't have the charisma to be her love interest. She's older than Ji Chang-wook too, but they sold me on the romance in Empress Ki.

I honestly don't know where I mentioned age as being the reason why I would feel uncomfortable watching it. I said he doesn't have the charisma, plus he's very baby-faced. I also mentioned Ji Chang-wook, and while he might not be as young as Kang Min-hyuk, he's still younger than Ha Ji-won but they sold the chemistry and he had charisma enough and talent enough to hold his own against Ha Ji-won. Hell, even Hyun Bin was younger than Ha Ji-won but they are still one of my favourite couples ever. Are you sure you're not projecting? I also recently mentioned that I would love to see her and Lee Soo-hyuk in a noona romance together. Lee Soo-hyuk is also younger than Ha Ji-won, by a lot, but he's not as baby-faced as Kang Min-hyuk and he's more charismatic on-screen than Kang Min-hyuk. Kang Min-hyuk is cute and I love him to death, but I still think he is way too baby-faced to be her love interest.

Oh, and if Goblin was disturbing for you, then it was. It wasn't disturbing for me because I didn't think Kim Go-eun looked like a child next to Gong Too. Also, Kim Go-eun as able to match Gong Yoo charismatically, in my opinion anyway.

I agree totally with you...
Noona romance is always the best..

Most people don't have a problem with a difference of 10 years or more when the men are older, but when are women, people have some discomfort.
The difference between Kang Min-Hyuk and Ha Ji-Won is only 13 years.

13 years is pretty big though.. whether it's the man who's older or the woman who's older. just my opinion though.

Ah, please don't make Lee Seo-won the character with 'inner loneliness' again! I'd love to see him as a goofball - he was hilarious as the host of the The Liar and His Lover ending concert.

I've watched both uncontrollably fond and liar and his lover. He delivered his complicated character well in liar and his lover.

I actually like the idea of the hospital ship. I guess patients will still come to the hospital but the hospital also travels to the patients. Hopefully we'll get to see some of that beautiful Korean scenery.

Didn't realized our two male leads were so young. I mean, I have nothing against an age gap between a couple (as long as they're both of age, are in a consensual relationship, is happy and is not hurting anyone, it's all good), but I was hoping to see older actors alongside Ha Ji-won. I'm tellin' ya, having Choi Jin-hyuk's name thrown out there got me bad.

I love medicals and I love Ha Ji-won and the rest of the cast isn't too shabby, either, so will look forward to more promos for this show.

Q on Ha ji won?

So first time i watched her in king 2 hearts, some movie 100 days of mr. arrogant, then this movie with hyun bin with that one sided crush .. and copy of that taiwanese drama time sthg.. and lastly what happened in bali

Have i watched all wrong material? I don't see her acting or personality charm that everyone is raving about.. rather i find her totally annoying in the first two dramas..atleast

Is it some other drama that i haven't seen and which basically gave her the platform to showcase all that talent she has?

Hwang jin yi is her best drama and role imo, she was captivating to an insane degree. Damo is good too.

Ha Ji-won is doing a poor choice of selecting projects recently. When your leading man is Kang Min-hyuk, you may as well not try. This drama is just a huge waste of time, and failure in the making.

This is such a mean thing to say. What about all the people who work hard for these shows? That's like wanting all their hard work to be wasted. If you don't like medical dramas, you don't have to watch them. But wishing for them to fail is rude and disrespectful to the people who are trying to make it happen.
