Lee Jong-hyun and Kim So-eun up to play cursed lovers in OCN’s That Man Oh-soo

New drama alert! OCN is in talks to schedule a romance drama titled That Man Oh-soo, and offers are out to Kim So-eun (Our Gap-soon) and Lee Jong-hyun (Lingerie Girls’ Generation) to headline as a cursed man and a woman who can’t break the curse. Which is certainly a departure from conventional plot pairings, where the hero or heroine usually holds the key to “curing” or somehow changing their counterpart in the course of the show.

If he accepts the offer, Lee Jong-hyun will play the cursed lead, though it’s unclear how this curse manifests itself. Putting aside his unfortunate circumstances, he is a cafe owner, as well as its barista, but he is also quite the smartypants, with a PhD in artificial intelligence. I wonder what prompted the pretty drastic career change, and whether it has anything to do with his curse. I also look forward to learning how he and Kim So-eun’s character, a local police officer, get involved.

With the information available, it’s difficult to gauge my expectations, since the reports didn’t mention any directors or writers attached to the project. It’s been a while since I’ve watched a project with Lee Jong-hyun or Kim So-eun in it, but I do remember enjoying their performances in A Gentleman’s Dignity and Liar Game, respectively, so I hope that they find a good director and writer to flesh out a romance I can get excited about.

That Man Oh-soo will be fully pre-produced, and is tentatively being planned for a March 2018 premiere in OCN’s Monday-Tuesday slot.

Oooo, I'd definitely be interested in seeing this pairing. I've always loved Kim So-eun, but Lee Jong-hyun only recently impressed me in Lingerie Girls' Generation. I've been in the mood for a good melo romance and I think both of them could pull that off very well.

So sad but true....some of my friends hide the fact that they have doctorate degrees on their resumes when they apply for jobs outside of academe.

Wouldn't it be kind of amazing if in this drama Lee Jong-hyun is disqualified for bank loans to open up his cafe because he is "overqualified"?

Ah, I can always do with more Lee Jonghyun and Kim So Eun in my life! Need more details on script though! =)

"I wonder what prompted the pretty drastic career change, and whether it has anything to do with his curse."

Tbh given how taxing PhDs are (mentally and mental-health wise) I'm not all that surprised about the swap. Actually I'm more surprised they went for another realistic route that isn't the 1% that are pure geniuses and go on to become young professor or a tech CEO lol!

WoW! The pairing is well matched. Both have the innocent and charming look. I loved them in "We got Married" even though they were partnered with different celebrities. Both Jonghyun and So-eun are ideal for rom-coms. I am so looking forward for their drama together. I hope they confirm.

The leads are still reviewing the offer but dont actually know what to feel on leejonghyun if he'll accept the role. I mean he's handsome but he still has to do a lot of works on acting to be an effective lead.

OMG! Watch GG1979! It was so cute, and everyone was so cute! Just enter and watch it with no expectations, or past memories of acting from any of the actors. They all were amazing, and his character was so endearing.
I hope you give it a chance!

This is just a bad week for casting, isn't it? First we have a terrible actor like L getting a major role in a drama, and now Lee Jong-hyun? I'm down for Kim So-eun, and she could do with more opportunities, but Lee Jong-hyun can barely act. Him in the lead male role is a joke.

His role in GG 1979 won me over after was sceptical with him before. He was pretty decent in My Only Love Song, but Gong Seung-yeong did most of the works. lol. I would pick him over his bandmate like Yonghwa in any day, although imo Lee Jung-shin has the best acting skill among them.

I don't know, I haven't seen much of Minhyuk except small role in Heirs and Entertainer -dropped after few epi. He is yet to win my attention on anything unlike Jong-hyun and Jung-shin but I remember he did OK in Heirs, not someone that I'be excited to watch as a lead in anything.

0

lmao why does the above sound like a bunch of fans who was let loose from the yonghwa fanclub?
like chill. you call people an arse but you guys are behaving like assholes yourself. people deserve to have opinions. if you don't like 'em, go back to the fanclub forums you came from.

0

Oh my goodness, Yonghwa's acting is terrible. Absolutely horrendous! I only ever saw Jungshin in Cinderella and 4 knights. For me, it's Min-hyuk>>>Jonghyun>>>>Jungshin>>>wall>>table>>>chair>>>>>Yonghwa.

Whao!! That's some serious criticism of Jung Yong Hwa's acting. I'm literally rolling in laughter here. :p

2

We are in consensus that Yong-hwa is the most terrible actor among all them. LOL.
I don't know about him in The Package and Minhyuk in Hospital Ship as I'm not watching both drama so maybe they are doing well.

0

You should watch his acting in his new drama The Package ~~ totally won me over! And I gotta say he improved a lot and suit the role for his character San Maru ~ The Package is surprisingly good and funny. Not your typical kdrama~

3

If you haven't seen Yonghwa in THE PACKAGE you should reserve judgment. He's really quite good--funny, sweet, and a bit strange, but completely endearing. His comic timing is on point, too. Don't base your decision on a drama from eight years ago.

3

Yonghwa's acting is not terrible at all, esp in The Package, if not superb. It wasn't worst to begin with out of the 4 of them -- YH's the one who won over kdrama fans without debuting as an idol first.

2

I've to disagree with this. Go educate yourself. Yonghwa acting in The Package got covered in all news and articles by movie/drama critics saying his acting in full bloom and outstanding. Btw did u happen the from drama/movie critics. Did u have cert to make such comment. Don't dwell with his past acting. Also if u favor one no need to bring others down. That's seem so desperate. Also seem YH up there that's why you trying to bring him down. Go research educate and learn some korean so you can know what's current and what's past.

0

No idea horrendous is based on which drama you have watched? If your comment is not based on the most recent drama and you used 'is terrible' then i have to say,
For me, its YOU>>>wall>>>table>>>chair>>>donkey in terms of being an arse.
But again, to be fair, not everyone appreciates the same stuff good or bad, in that case, i rest my case cos it is not fair to expect someone with ad judgement / taste to appreciate something good.

0

I think calling his acting "terrible" and "absolutely horrendous" is just plain baseless and trolling. This coming from someone who's seen most of his work and is following The Package atm where he's doing a great job, imo. But then again, looking at your response "wall>>table>>" , it's obvious you commented for the sake of bashing/trolling. I wish people refrain from trolling and actually contribute something of substance. This is not allkpop or onehallyu.

0

Lee Jung Shin and Yong Hwa - I haven't seen any of their acting projects. Min Hyuk seems okay, he was definitely swoon worthy in Hospital Ship but that's his own charisma and the character being written as the most-perfect-man-on-the-planet, and not Min Hyuk's acting, which seems pretty average.

Just based on Hospital Ship & Girl's Generation 1979 alone, I think Lee Jong Hyun is miles better.

He was decent in Heartstrings, good in Mirae's choice, better in The Three Musketeers and doing really great in The Package. I think The Package is definitely his best work. He's surprisingly good at comic acting. He's getting great response in The Package from Korean netizens. Interestingly, out of the 4 of them, he's the one who's rarely criticized as an idol-actor by K-netizens. I've also seen his Chinese movie with Nicolas Tse and I thought he did pretty well and definitely held his own.

0

I completely agree with this statement!! And if he really is a terrible actor, he sure did a good job covering it, and GG1979. I would definitely check out this show if he accepts it. :)

I think we can only judge whether one is a good actor or not after watching most of his projects. Just basing one's judgement on one or two may not be too fair. Maybe he really is good, or sometimes it's due to the well-written script/ the partners/ good direction... And often, as a person matures, his life experience can really improve his acts. For Jung Yong Hwa, I only watched You're Beautiful and Mirae's Choice, and I found him OK although I didn't like both drama. But I think he's really good in The Package. I think all the CNBlue guys may not be the best of actors, because they didn't have that much experience. So, their performance really depends on the roles they're landed with. We should give them chances to grow, and encouragements, also for L. I like beautiful faces, haha.

That's true, I have only seen one work of his, and I liked him in it... Maybe he is not ready for lead material, but he is slowly building himself up there.
While Jung Yong Hwa, I have only seen him in You're Beautiful and Heartstrings, and he was OK. But in the Package, he completely won me over!
I honestly had no idea Lee Jong Hyun was even an idol, I thought he was an actor who was a newbie starting as side characters.
Both have impressed me so far in their most recent projects, and I only encourage people that they should watch a little, and then judge for themself, how they are doing now. Maybe all they need is a specific performance to build up their acting experience, I don't know. I didn't even think Lee Jong Hyun was that good looking, I just thought the way his character was portrayed in GG1979 was endearing. :)

1

that!!!.. when i watched playful kiss.. i thought the girl was second most horrible actress (although first position is way too ahead in terms of bad acting skills.. the lead from boys over flowers) ... but then after all these years.. i see her in her monday show.. and she is wonderful

0

GG1979 is probably Lee Jonghyun's best work to date but I think that's still not saying a lot considering his role wasn't that major or huge despite the initial reports that he'll be playing a lead role in the drama. If this pushes through, I think Kim So Eun would probably have to hard-carry it. She's the one with the brand name anyway. On the other hand, it'd be a good test for Lee Jonghyun to see if he is actually male lead material.

I've been a fan of CNBLUE since 2013, I watched their drama projects and among the 4 it's Jungshin for me who has the best acting skills, though I am dissapointed with his character in My Sassy Girl as Liutenant Kang. He wasn't able to show his acting skills in MSG. I guess it's because of the character of Lt. Kang who is always serious.

Minhyuk is doing great in Hospital Ship, i think this is his best among his drama projects.

Yonghwa and Jonghyun for me have the least acting skills but Yonghwa in The Package, his acting is pretty decent. I am enjoying watching it.

Jonghyun in Girls Generation 1979 acting is really cringing. I am big fan of Jonghyun but not of his acting. I am so annoyed with his smirk acting. I can make a scoreboard how many times he smirked in GG79. He was so stiff, he said I love you to his partner hyechoo but damn why I didn't feel his sincerity they way he said that. I am sick and tired seeing his wide eyes when he is angry. His best acting for me so far is in My Only Love Song (i can feel he was comfortably acting in that drama) and Orange Marmalade though there were still acting cringy scenes in the said drama projs. He should undergo a LOT of acting workshops if he really want to pursue acting job. I mean a LOT!

Oh by the way, Myungsoo is a terrible actor?? how?? did you watch him in Ruler of the Mask? He was good in Ruler exceptt in shouting, the rest was doing great as Lee Sun in Ruler.

Yeay! I was afraid if my bae is end up taking another useless long drama again, so glad she is doing mini series this time. It would've been better if this is like OCN thriller instead of romcom, but I hope this one will be done right. KSE could do more than romcom and bright & bubbly personality, so hopefully she gets to do more projects with different genre next year.

I do love this pairing, and Lee Jong-hyun is my new love! Although I do think he still needs to polish more of his acting, but he has certain charms that suit with romcom. I probably would love this pairing more than Kim So-eun-Song Jae-rim in Our Gap-soon which felt lacked of everything. Seems like they are going to start filming next month if both confirm.

Excuse me but, i've seen you at many places. Maybe it will be better you focus on Soeun without bashing Jaelim everytime? They might have lots of couple fans. But He has his own fans too. Seeing you bashing him here and there and calling his fans "ridiculous" is going to solve anything rather than you being a troll and a hater? Fans like you act like "Anyone will do rather tan Song Jae Lim" well i ask you to go back. The reason Gabsoon was succesful all of the cast worked their ass offs. Stop this "i love this couple" things. When you do this you don't look like a Soeun fan. You like a "Soeun should be with someone but not with Jaelim" person. First go and learn about him. Then SPEAK for him.

Kim So-eun, yaaaaaaaaaaas. As for Jong-hyun, he's kinda good in GG 1979 but still a bit green, especially in portraying certain emotions where he ends up with a derp face. But if it's a rom-com, I think it can go fairly well. The casting makes me want to take note of this drama but since there are no PD and writer attached yet, I don't know yet.

I mean, I thought I'll be watching tons of shows this drama cycle but then BTLIOF came along and now that's the only drama I wanna watch. Hahaha. It also depends on its competing dramas heh

See her movies such as Vertigo /Entangled in which she acted as a daughter of someone who is suffering dementia / Alzheimer if you don't mind watching without subs. She acted as a youngest daughter in a very complex family and the late Kim Young-ae played the mother. Mourning Grave was a horror movie, but it wasn't very dark, more on a sad ghost story. While many people remember her from BOF, her role in Empress Cheon Chu that won me over and in Horse Doctor sealed my love for her. I have a soft spot for young actors who left a good impression in sageuks especially old sageuks. She did well in Scholar but there are rooms to improve from there but it was a good departure from her usual roles. I think she feels the most comfortable in sageuks as she once said she wants to be known as an actress who suits sageuk. It's just she haven't really receive many sageuk offers to do. For me, good actors not necessarily should be judged based on roles they played, but how they carry the role even the role is just plain in writing and not very interesting -in which I think she has some skills on it. Her character in Liar Game for eg could be just plain and boring but somehow she managed to make it memorable.
