Jung Hae-in considers joining Kim Hye-yoon and Jisoo in new JTBC drama by the SKY Castle team

Jung Hae-in, Kim Hye-yoon, Jisoo

A new JTBC drama called Snowdrop is being planned by the SKY Castle team, PD Jo Hyun-taek and writer Yoo Hyun-mi, and casting is well underway.

First up is actor Kim Hye-yoon (Extraordinary You), who gave a memorable performance in SKY Castle. Kim will be reuniting with the production team for Snowdrop and it’s been confirmed that she will be playing a lead role.

Blackpink’s Jisoo has also confirmed that she’ll be joining the drama. She previously appeared as a cameo in KBS’s The Producers and also had a small part in tvN’s Arthdal Chronicles as Song Joong-ki‘s first love (Song Joong-ki’s ethereal Saya to be precise). However, this will be her first time playing a more substantial role.

An offer was also extended to Jung Hae-in (A Piece of Your Mind) to play a leading part. His agency stated that he is considering the role favorably, but no decisions have been made yet.

JTBC’s upcoming drama Snowdrop is currently still in the planning stages and an air date has not yet been determined.

This drama is just in preproduction and I'm already tired by Jisoo's fans... I understand they're happy for her to be finally an actress and in a main role but they're acting like she was the greatest actress when she did only cameos...

I'm super happy for Kim Hye Yoon \o/ Her characters in SC and EY were so different but she nailed both of them. I hope this time she won't play a highschool student but an older character.

I really like Jung Hae In even if we would think that he chose boring dramas in the past because there were more focused on characters and their feelings, they were great and interesting. His acting was on point, so it will be nice to see him a new drama.

I couldn't agree more about Jung Hae-In. Everything I have seen him in reminds me of a good novel. I thought the disparity between the quality of A Piece of Your Mind and the resulting ratings/interest was a bloody travesty. I can feel myself getting myself worked up all over again right now, which might be a good thing, since I otherwise would just get enraged by the RNC's first night.

"I'm already tired by Jisoo's fans"

DB is the only site about Korean entertainment (other than streaming sites like Viki or Kocowa) I visit because kpop and most Korean films do not interest me but from what I understand, I would find most Korean fan sites utterly exhausting and a comparison would make a typical Yahoo comment board look like the Algonquin Round Table.

So, we all noticed. I kept quiet there. I mean let the drama begin and I mean Suzy is Suzy and she still at best moderate level of respect from everyone as an actor, it took IU forever to get accolades. Ji Soo is a sweet girl but hyping her so much before the drama even airs while putting down Hye Yoon...seems preposterous.

I just commented somewhere on an article that said Jisoo is casted as lead in Snowdrop, I simply said "I thought Hye Yoon was still considering the role. She's a great actress, I miss seeing her on screen." And then boom I get attacked from Jisoo's fan, I mean I didn't even say anything about Jisoo's acting skill (because I haven't seen any of her past roles). At that time I still didn't know that they were both offered different roles in drama. People are reading too much from such a simple comment.

I'm sorry kdrama fans are just as toxic and especially those like KYJ have the worst fandoms who hate on everyone on twitter and she isn't even that great of an actress. Jisoo is a global superstar and has fans all over the world and only a small percentage as hateful to the others not the whole fandom.

You know I may be wrong but I think the initial comment meant being tired of comments like yours. KYJ may have terrible fans, but she has nothing to do with this drama, so there is no need to bring her into this. The focus should be on this drama.
And to the second point of your comment, yes, jisoo is a global superstar, but that is when it comes to music, not acting and some people do not care about music but love dramas. She has 2 cameo roles under her belt, which means that she has no acting experience. So, people who enjoy dramas are allowed to question her ability as an actress because there are so many good professional actors, who people would like to see in new roles but who don't get the same opportunities just because they aren't "global superstars" in another field.

(1) As vv already alluded to, the dig at KYJ was pointless and vindictive. BTW, she may never reach the apex, acting chops wise but in the half dozen shows I have seen her in, she is serviceable at worst and with the right material, she is pretty much spot-on.

(2) It only takes a small minority to irredeemably poison a board, whether news, politics or entertainment. 15 minutes reading comments from "a small minority" leads to the only reasonable conclusion that there simply is not enough Haldol available in the world.

Jisoo is an idol in one of the most successful girl groups in global kpop industry...we all agree...but acting is new for her, she has to demonstrate she is good to public who has never seen her acting....her 1 minute cameos do not count....if YG had let her transition to acting like DO or Jin Young, then there would be less skepticism here, she is being thrust into a prominent role all on a sudden in an industry that doesn't look kindly on idols who transition to acting with little experience as it almost always backfires...I suggest brace yourself...poor girl will have each of her micro expressions scrutinized under a microscopic, it sadly comes with the territory........most of us here are long time drama viewers with little power over ratings in Korea and care little for that...we just want to enjoy a good drama with solid acting...lets hope Jisoo does well for everyone's sake....and are you dragging Kim Yoo Jung here because she is from Sidus...Hye Yoon is older than her although she looks younger thanks to her petite frame and bubbly face...its not good to compare the two by any means.

My favorite part was the introduction of the chieftain of the
Wolf clan (?) played by the Japanese actress Erika Karata because of my college age nephew (who does not watch kdramas) nearly lost hold of his bagel sandwich when walking by and seeing her on the screen. He literally tripped over his own feet, exclaiming, "holy sh*t, who is that!"

I think if Jung Hae in will be the leading man, he is kind of older for Kim Hye-yoon, although I don't know how old is she, but having seen her playing high school girl makes me think she is very young and Hae in must be already over thirty.....🙄🤔🤔🤔
But who knows, it all depends on the story. I would be glad him playing an older oppa role... because, it will be different...
Ohh no,, whatever.
Whatever he is in, I am in. I even ended up watching (a spring whatever drama) with Han Ji min for him. But of course I did FF all the toxic people😂😂😂😂😂

Well she's not that old. I just graduated from college (2020 grad= mostly '98 liners) so only about 2 years removed from college. Just looked it up and her birthday is November 10, 1996 so technically still 23 and she just finished her degree in February 2019. But yeah I do agree she looks young and she did a good job playing high school students!

I would have been all in with JHI in the cast, but this will all depend on the actual story.

But so is this (supposed to be) an ensemble cast or will there be "main leads" and if that's the case is it Kim Hye-yoon or Jisoo?
Whatever happened to that other drama about soldiers that JHI was considering? That sounded more interesting

I don't think you can blame YG for Jisoo if you've never blamed YG for NJH, LSK and every other actor who they gave lead roles to. Idol agencies aren't the only rich agencies. You might not know this but big actor agencies make more money than idol agencies. Most rookie actors are backed by big , rich agencies. Idols get paid less than rookie actors so don't blame them or their agency for getting cast.

1

Required fields are marked *

But NJH and LSK are a part of YG actors and models, they aren't idols, which is why they are acting and not singing. And it isn't like they got lead roles from the start. They did multiple smaller roles which led them to getting lead roles. You can't expect them to forever play supporting characters, right?
Look no one is trying to offend anyone but people are allowed to question someone's acting ability if they get lead roles from the beginning without any previous acting experience. And no, two small cameos are not enough to make someone take on a lead role.

I guess I will have to wait and see, but I cant see him as couple with neither of them. I guess I am stuck with his "noonas" phase.

Required fields are marked *

Lol. I didn't want to use the word "noona", but I thought the same.

Nevertheless and in his defense: he has not always had a romantic role. In while you were sleeping he was attracted to Suzy, but retrieved in a very elegant way and remain a friend, which is what healthy people do when they realise they like someone who's in love with somebody else.. And in Prison Playbook he was just a soldier, and his relationship with his brother was more important.

I haven't watched yet his movie with this girl from the drama with Lee Min ho... or the drama A piece of your mind, with Chae So bin, but... at least those girls are not noonas for him...

Anyway, in this new drama, if he is not necessary a romantic leading guy, I will be happy for him, playing again a different kind of role. I know he can, because of the examples mentioned above.

He had a great chemistry with Chae Soo Bin (1994) and Kim Go Eun (1991). In his last movie Start Up, he played a young man working for private loan business.

Personally, I will watch him playing love story, he's really good at it :p

But anyway... artistically, I wish him the best.

But if they can bring Jung Hae In to this project, I'm in! I feel like a few people didn't like KHY especially after Extraordinary You but I really liked her delivery and think she has great potential. I'm hoping that she's the lead with JHI in this drama.

Honestly I don't care if Jisoo is an idol or not. People are so quick to judge just because she is an idol. I got into Korean dramas in year 2004 when Full House was the hype, and I believe Rain Bi was also a singer first before he became an actor. I think Jang Nara, Eric Mun, and Yoon Kye Sang all started as singers too before they started acting. Most of the names I just listed are well-received as actors today. I just feel like Korean idols today get so much hate and criticisms for everything. I'm always open to seeing new faces whether they're idols or not. Yes there are times when an idol takes on a role when that role could have been given to a better actor or actress, but I also realize that there are idols who from the beginning wanted to be actors/actresses instead and were advised by their company to debut as singers first. For instance, this is just based on my observations so it may not be true, but I think EXO's DO, SNSD's Yoona, and Wonder Girls' Sohee all wanted to do acting. And if my observations are actually correct then I believe they should be praised because training to become singers and idols is actually way more tough than going straight into acting. Thus, I will be looking forward to this drama and hopefully Jisoo will not be affected by all this hate coming at her.

Those actors you mentioned started off as side characters then worked their way to becoming leads. What people are against are idols without much acting experience getting lead roles right off the bat. Some of them are using dramas as a training ground which wouldn't even be an issue if they just take on roles that are at their level.

Which is why I listed all the names of singer turned actors from the early 2000s. They started off with a singing career first and went straight into lead roles. Today, people roll their eyes as soon as there are news of an idol joining a drama with lead roles. I've been following Korean dramas and K-pop for 15 years now, and I've seen how things have transformed over the years. Korean celebrities receive so much criticisms and hate for everything possible now. There's now this prejudice that idols can't act even before filming begins. I just think we all should try to be more open minded and less quick to judge.

And I also believe production team knows what they're doing and has their reasons to cast idols. Sometimes they just want a backbone to rely on in case their drama is received poorly or they want to garner more buzz and interest.

People rolliing their eyes at idol castings doesn't happen because idols are some poor persecuted underdogs but because of a long record of idol-turned actors being given lead roles with zero or very little experience.....and then turning out to be bad at acting, lacking in skill, not convincing etc. For every D.O. or IU there's at least three Hyeris or Suzys who don't have the skill even after years of acting (tbh male idols don't tend to get too many chances after bad acting, the field is more competitive with male actors), and honestly the 'their fans bring ratings' thing is bunk since like 2012 because of how many idol dramas flop? If people are judging them it's because of what they saw for many years, not because idols are some persecuted minority.

If anything dramabeans commenters quite encouraging of idols who take small roles and who do well, like I never see bad comments about Jung Eunji or Ong Seungwoo. The annoyance this time is because Kim Hye Yoon successfully carried a drama as lead despite having no big names in the cast, she proved her talent and earned leading lady status....but the idea that she might be now sidelined for some idol who has literally never had acting experience other than cameos, of course seems unfair and worthy of criticising.

Partially I agree with you, but I also agree with those who say they should take side characters first before going on a lead role. Nevertheless, maybe we will be surprised. Who knows?!
And yes, maybe some wanted to act from the beginning... now wether they are good or not, even without the idol experience, only their acting skills will say.
IU is a super idol, she is a diva, but she is also amazing acting... And I suppose there are many others.
I also wouldn't judge without seeing them acting first.

The record from the early 2000s is one thing, the record from the last 10 years is a different thing.

People see idols whose "training" hasn't even made them decent singers, being handed acting jobs in leading or prominent roles (2nd lead) just for being good looking and having fans and then on top of that, a LOT of them couldn't act. And all criticism of that is branded "hate". In many cases, they didn't even have to do auditions. And defensive kpop fans think their fans deserve acting careers despite being bad at acting because they are "trained" by their agency at some point....well, if they are trained, it's not showing.

And this attitude on db is weird because this is the one site that never fails to acknowledge/praise when an idol does well at acting, no matter how '????' people were before. If Jisoo is good at acting, it will be avknowledged once the show starts. But let's not act like there's no reason at all why people side-eye on idol castings in dramas.

I'm not saying to overlook the idols who are bad at acting, but one or several idols who are bad at acting does not account for all. That's just generalization. And that's what I don't understand is why this generalization started. From Suzy, Cha Eun Woo, etc,? Suzy is Suzy and Cha Eun Woo is Cha Eun Woo. Just because they are bad at acting, they shouldn't account for the rest of the idols. Hence, I say we should try to be more open minded about Jisoo's casting. We can criticize her acting all we want after the drama airs, but right now there's nothing to prove that she is bad at acting.

Wait... I got Snowdrop story...

https://www.hancinema.net/kim-hye-yoon-blackpink-jisoo-and-jung-hae-in-in-snowdrop-144467.html

Based on true handwritten notes, in 1987, a man escaped from political prison into Leehwa women's university dormitory after tear gas exploded. One of the female students treated him as an real activist for the generation/s.

(Previously titled: Leehwa Women's University Dormitory)

I love this dramatic series, so I'm interested to watch this and I can't wait with an excitement. It looks like Korean film 1987 combined with Reply 1988 with a true different worlds via small screen.
