Little Boy - 4415k - 19th of August - In a week - still - yeah.

Enough now - from 3rd week onwards no Little boy - time to move on.

October can announce official 5000k - delay of weeks of months can't be as we are up for 5 million.

So new Europe temperature record is set - surely is.
Temp around Lord's Cricket Stadium 18-20 for the day with 65-75 for humidity - pretty good time to bicycle around.

I was sure of Afghanistan won't stand more than July - Its half of August and everything is clear now - Who was so confident in the regime - so many stupid articles - That's not how things work.
September 1st week - atbest - that's it.

Now what you gained from wasting not billions but trillions of dollars. Billions of dollars of investment and infrastructure from other friendly nations - all dust now - zero - Enough and china got the most and dirt cheap price and then gonna earn billions more from that. It was nothing more than a big crony elaborate scam. So much money and you have not much to show, not even on paper. I say this is the biggest scam of human history. The money involved is just too big.

i havent watch much kdrama these days, most kdramas that airing atm is not my style. i dont like slice-of-life genre like Nevertheless, Rocket Boys, Hospital Playlist so i watch You Are My Spring. but the last episode is so sad so im on hold. i dont think i can handle sad ending atm. i wanna watch cute romcom or fantasy but i think that kind of genre wont available any time soon :((

I know right - I don’t even mind a bit of noble idiocy but I want my rom com to end with a) both the hero and heroine still alive and b) still in love, surely that is not too high an expectation?

Yes, long time since I've been here. Hope everyone is well. Yes, last kdrama I enjoyed must have been ... Anti-fan. Following Hospital Playlist2. Having a hard time following kdrama if not on Netflix. Not exactly a rabbit hole, but I'm enjoying cdrama You are My Glory. Gorgeous leads. Fluff and suits my mood now.

The weather has been gorgeous the last few days, so I keep sneaking away from work (from home) for short walks around the neighborhood and nearby botanical garden.

I've been cat-sitting for a friend; more kitten-sitting, and I think today is the last day she'll be able to pull down my curtains (which she did again for the 44-millionth time this morning) as I finally broke down and invested in sturdier rods. And of course she's leaving on Monday, but at least I won't be teetering on the edge of my step stool constantly from now until then. She gets into absolutely everything and into every possible crevice and makes me want to pull my hair out...but I'll no doubt miss her and her enthusiastic cuddles when she's gone home.

I've been listening to AKMU all day long. It's been such a cheerful Friday. Keep well, beanies!

As a parent of a 2 year old, i definitely get this saying 😂

This is why many rescues recommend kittens to be adopted in pairs or that there is another friendly animal companion in the house to play with the kitten. This would keep them from getting in trouble most of the time.

I 100% agree with this. I'm lucky in that I work from home, so even if I'm not playing with her she still has company and can still come sit in my lap for pets when I'm on calls. But I think it's hard for her when she's left alone all day when my friend is at work. I even feel bad that I have to have her sleep in the front room at night (otherwise, I don't get any sleep). In the morning she's so excited to see me. She is a sweetie with a very good nature, but she is definitely an energetic kitten!

I really want to get my kids a kitten but I am restraining myself because it’s probably a nicer scenario in my head than real life 😅 and I don’t think my older cat would like it. She’s only tiny and gets bullied by neighbour cats - she doesn’t need it at home.

How do you go about picking your next drama watch?

Is it by casting, genre, writer, director or a combination of those elements?

Lately, I have been more drawn toward projects by favorite lead actors.

1

Required fields are marked *

A little bit of everything? :p

Favourite actors can make me test a drama but if I'm in the mood for the genre.

5
reply

Required fields are marked *

It all depends on my mood in that moment.

4
reply

Required fields are marked *

I'm definitely a genre picker, as in a 'what am I in the mood for right now' watcher. That said, I do have my favorite actors, so I'll tend to go for something of theirs I haven't seen yet even if a) it's not a genre I'm currently interested in or b) nothing else at all is striking my fancy.

3
reply

Required fields are marked *

Oh genres for me. Im a romcom person. But a well loved actor will make me take a peak at something else. And most of the time when I go outside of romcoms I love it but I can never make myself click play unless theres an actor involved that I already love!

3
reply

Required fields are marked *

A combination of those elements but probably casting first. I'll try any genre if the cast and/or story sounds interesting, but if the genre is slice-of-life or dystopian, I am there no matter what.

1

Required fields are marked *

Writing and directing are the deciders for me. I will religiously follow certain directors (Oh Pan-seok, wherever he decides to go) and writers (Park Hae-young, Kim Do-woo) ....actors not so much.

2
reply

Required fields are marked *

I tend to pick shows rather randomly depending on what I'm in the mood for at the moment, although if I really like show I'll usually check out other shows by the same screenwriter(s). While I follow writers more than actors, I will sometimes check out other works an actor's done if they particularly intrigue or impress me.

3
reply

Required fields are marked *

Sometimes if I like the cast I will definitely check it out. If the PD or Writernim has a good track record I will give it a chance.
I follow beanies’ recommendation too 😊 Recently, @pickleddragon has been raving about On The Verge of Insanity so I decided to check it out and I just love it!
I am glad that I listened to @katakwasabi as well and watched Kairos. It was underrated but it was well-written and superb acting by the cast ☺️

5
reply

Required fields are marked *

I start by checking the writer on the theory that he/she/it is the one who is mostly determines whether the show is great or a train wreck.

Then I check the PD on because that's who (1) has the first chance to see if the script is a wreck or not, and also is 2nd most important in making a worse wreck or not. A PD with a good record won't have to take on a doomed project, and might make a so-so one better.

Then I check Asianwiki for talented cast and eye candy, and read the description to see if the show is a genre I can't stand.

Then even if all the above screams "NO!" there's still a chance I might watch day 1 anyway, because why not?

7
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

I will say as a director myself (theatre, not film/television) that good directing can make a mediocre script better and bad directing can kill a good script (I've seen some terrible productions of Shakespeare), but there isn't much you can do to rescue truly terrible writing.

'Favorite lead actors' selecting let me down recently with 'Oh Landlord (Master)' and 'Monthly Home Magazine'. It seems going by director/writer is more reliable... but not foolproof. There's no reason why I should be liking 'On The Verge of Insanity' as much as I am. The male lead has been in few drama bit a HUGE pile of indie films, one of which I've seen. Sometimes you need to just close your eyes and pick a show at random.

Yes those are indie films. As I said, his three films with Hong Sang-soo are indies (Right Now Wrong Then, On the Beach..., Our Sunhi), but most of his 30 or so other films are not.

I usually like to check out a drama if it looks interesting. There are a few actors/writers that make me hesitate seeing their next work.

I tend to go by genre and casting (e.g. Mouse was outside my usual as a drama but I watched because of Lee Seung Gi - who generally picks solid if not amazing dramas - then it was really good) but if I have nothing lined up I do tend to pick based on interesting titles 😅

For me it's based on genre (thriller, suspense, action, adventure & supernatural). I'll watch these type of show as long as they have stories that I find interesting.
I will also watch a show if it's starring my fav lead actor/actress even if it's not my preferred genre :)

I follow people's recommendations, that is why I visit Dramabeans and others webs mainly.
When I watch a drama that I like, I look for all the writer's works; the same with directors and actors that impress me
but it is much less common for me to be interested in these.

Vacations are a strange thing. The week leading up to my vacarion I felt like ot would never arrive and procrastinated a ton of projects at work so the two days before I had to cram everything in!
On Tuesday of my vacation I was like....how am I going to fill all of this time? Magbe I should go back to work early....? And confession...I checked my email and teams messages and responded to what seemed important multiple times a day, everyday. I learned that I do love being a librarian and the work of librarianship. I didnt need a break from that. I needed a break from people. Which puts me where I was a year ago. I had been thinking of leaving librarianship because my current situation is awful (its been better recently. My manager gave me a GLOWING review during my annual. Even better than the one he gave his favorite. I dont trust it. Im keeping one eye open) and my last few situations had been bad as well. So I had been thinking what else can I do? But now Im back to thinking well...maybe Ill give another location a shot. Im working up the courage to email this group in colorado. They are early literacy specialist librarians and THATS my dream job! I want to know how they became that and if they are hiring.
Anyway. Back to vacations. Tuesday I was ready to go back to work early and here we are on Friday and I go back on Monday and Im all....I shoulda taken another week!

I just finished watching Touch Your Heart which appeared on Netflix this summer. Pretty good drama with pluses & minuses, stars Lee Dong Wook & Yu In-A,. LDW is great as an attorney, but he spends the last 8 episodes looking at YIA with moony cow eyes. This is not an especially good look for LDW, who is a wonderful actor. YIA is so soft and squeaky in the first episodes, I did not think I had the patience to continue, but she grows and shows a lot of courage. There's a compelling storeyline about how actresses are treated by their agencies and how they deal with vicious online comments by viewers. I wish people wouldn't do that. These actors are actual live humans.

It was good for a light watch and gave some closure to those who wanted a bit more from them after Goblin. I really enjoy Yoo In-na. She was great in The Spies Who Loved Me too. The issues about agencies and online comments have only intensified since TYH.

Required fields are marked *

I preferred Yoo In-na as the sultry chicken restaurant owner in Goblin. I got the impression in Touch Your Heart that You In-a was actually making a plea to viewers for more kindness. How I feel is, if you wouldn't say it to an actor's face, then don't say it online.

Required fields are marked *

I agree with your last point. The viciousness online takes my breath away. I avoid it at all costs, and people in the industry should too. It's so interesting that when the trace it back to the perpetrator, it's sometimes a pesky school kid or some other unlikely person whose opinion should not be blown out of proportion.

But I love Yoo In-na. Not many of the Korean women engage me. I think it's partly because they get poor roles, but she is a great comedic actor. She was gorgeous in Goblin and we all yearned with her for the Grim Reaper.

'Noble idiocy': (Usually) the male lead decides its in the best interest of the (usually) female lead for him to sacrifice his love and abruptly break up with her (usually without explaining why). Often he makes a show of being cruel in attempt to drive her away. They then separate and suffer for about an episode.

I didn't let it bother me too much. At that episode mark in dramas, some degree of frustration (aka obstacle) is bound to kick in but the pain doesn't last for too long. It's always good if the obstacle arises naturally of course. From memory her cute little stickers kept him going.

If they made the manager a villian, I would have almost let it slide. Instead, they really painted him as some benevolent person who truly was seeking her happiness instead of someone just wanting to secure his next paycheck. I just felt cheated out of more cute. Hi beanies, its been a weird week. I keep trying to study more but it doesn't seem to be working out, mainly cause I don't have exams because of the pandemic. I am the kind of person who needs deadlines and i don't feel like working without them. I finished Office Girls and started YAMS. Episode 1 of YAMS and i am already intrigued. I don't have any drama that I am interested for other than this. I will be getting my first dose of the vaccine this weekend so i am looking forward to that. I also have an assignment lined up so I will focus on that for now. Any tips on how to be more productive would really be appreciated.

Happy weekend Beanies and keep Beaning On!

This week has been very draining mentally because therapy is starting to unravel me and fighting agoraphobia is also uncomfortable. So far for the negative side of things, because this means small progress!💪As much as I would love to hide in my room, I must admit that the weather is nice, our garden serene and my environment safe, so I should go outside more often, whether it is just catching sunlight in the garden or leaving home for a bit.☀️

Can you all believe i am not watching any korean drama at the time?
Intentionally or unintentionally, I am taking a break from K-dramas, although there is a long list of things I want to watch, like Navillera, hospital playlist 1 and 2, a piece of your mind, sky castle, and even some oldies like "a secret love affair"!!!!!!
But whatever happened with my time?? I am so busy, so tired, so exhausted every time...
I am only watching a chinese drama right now: unforgettable love, which is not even that good, and I keep FF half of it... but yeah, that is my reality right now.
I need to make time to organize things at home, and whenever I start to binge a show, I can´t stop, so... intentionally, i will keep myself in the slump for a little while.
Nevertheless I always come here back again for the gossip!
Beanies!!! Have fun! Take courage and don't forget about me!!!! LOL

I've been working on Japanese subtitles on Bossam (on Viki).
(I started it after Ep.12 aired because I was working on Taxi Driver before then)
I'm working on the last 10 min of the final episode right now.
Yay it's finally coming to the end!

I'm interested in Honey Lee's drama One The Woman for my next project.
Since I have a feeling that it might be like Mr. Queen type of comedy (I could be totally wrong).
But PD is from Good Casting... Hmmmm....

@ayalynn123, I have been a Viki subscriber since April, 2016.
Thank you and all your fellow subbers at Viki. As far as I am concerned Viki subtitling sets the standard.

Since you subtitle in Japanese do you have any idea why there are not more Japanese programs on Viki. I am thinking in particular that I would love to have more Japanese crime/mystery and historical dramas available on Viki. After all isn’t Viki owned by Rakuten which is a Japanese company?

4

Required fields are marked *

Rakuten owns Viki and yes, is a Japanese company but Viki's HQ is in Singapore so I guess Viki itself is not really a Japanese company?
The License issue is very tricky and complicated in Japan.
Broadcasting companies don't want to sell the streaming right to worldwide easily. Soooo stingy.
So that's why not so many Japanese dramas are on Viki,

Actually in Japan, you can't watch any Japanese dramas or Korean dramas on Viki, so people have to use VPN to watch.
(Pay for both VPN and Viki, and Japanese subtitles are not guaranteed, no wonder Japanese subscribers are not many)

I've always wondered why Japanese media companies don't make a greater effort to sub their movies and TV shows for international audiences. I can see how they would have been content with local audiences in the past, but with streaming etc these days they have been left in the dust by Korean and other dramas/films that are much more accessible. There is fansubbing, but a lot of it is quite badly done, and of course you'd have to watch the fansubbed shows on illegal platforms. I've been waiting for years for shows like Shokuzai no Sonata, Tenshi no Naifu and Kibougaoka no Hitobito to be subbed, but I doubt they ever will be... sob...

2
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

I don't know why but not just Japanese media companies, Japanese tends to be targeting only domestic audiences/customers in general.
They are not good at promoting or marketing overseas at all and are worried about the rights or illegal usage etc, more than benefit.
They are so far behind in the international market compared to Korea, and the gap between Japan and Korea will be only bigger and bigger.

2

Oh I forgot to say thank you! 💚
I try to translate 100% of dialogues and add explanations of jokes, sageuk words etc, because I want viewers to enjoy the dramas 100%.
I think Viki's subs are much more drama lover-friendly than Netflix.

Adding those translator’s notes along with subbing lyrics (and generally not directly translating profanity but using asterisks to get the meaning) is part of the Viki ‘style’ I like so much.

The Delta variant is doing its best to spread from one state to the next in Australia, and there's more urgency about getting the vaccination rate up. We've been safe where I live most of the time, so we just verge on the edge of complacency. I've had one shot and I get the second one next month. happy friday beanies!
this week has been super busy as it’s my last week at home. it’s also been pretty sad— i feel like a year ago or even before this summer, i was so ready to leave home and go to college, but now that i only have three days left, it’s really sad! a couple of my friends teared up when i said bye to them today. i don’t think i’ve mentioned it on DB, but i got into my dream college!! which is on the west coast (i’m on the east) so it’s very far, and i won’t be visiting home besides long breaks :/ i feel like i’ve only really realized how lucky i am to have such lovely friends this summer, which stings a bit. but i hope i stay in touch, and know i’ll see them again ◡̈

dramawise, i’m on episode 12 of her private life! i haven’t made progress on vincenzo in a while, but i hope i can do some watching on the plane. while hosplay's ep this week was so long (ALMOST TWO HOURS, i think the last few eps are gonna be over 2 hours!!!), i loved it. i teared up at jeongwon and songhwa’s storyline with their mothers, and smiled at ikjun. i also wanted to say, i feel like recently, the writer has been putting songhwa and ikjun together more, but i really wish they would stay platonic; i just think they’re amazing as best friends. same with seokhyeong and minha-- i never really bought that loveline even though i love them both individually. and the ENDING… JUNWANNNN! still pretty mad at iksun for pulling a noble idiot, but i really want to see junwan happy 🥺. i’m nervous about whether i’ll be able to keep watching dramas in college, but i hope if anything, i can at least finish hosplay s2.

i think this week or last week marked a year of me posting on the OT for the first time. things have really changed in my life for the better. i know me going to college won’t really impact you guys (i’ll still be online LOL), but i just wanted to thank y’all for always being here on DB, even though i haven’t been super active recently. throughout the hardest period of my life, you guys always made me smile and always made me happy here. thank you all. i hope some of the good energy i got the past few months can be passed on to you all!! 💜

love and hwaiting,

I hope you really enjoy it.

Best wishes. Most students do not go so far away- it takes guts. My son went to school 2,000 miles away from his home- but it was his first choice also, a world class Engineering school which is the very best in the world for his major (in his upper level classes half of the class were graduate students- tough competition) but it was worth the struggle- as much because of his fellow students as the professors.

So I know this won't be easy but that simply means that you will learn far more- your education will be a real one when others are merely punching a ticket to get a credential. Congratulations for not taking the easy road.
