Yook Sung-jae confirms first post-army project

Popular Naver webtoon Golden Spoon (written by Sung Hyun-dong via the pseudonym HD3) is getting a drama adaptation thanks to MBC, and it’s just been announced that Yook Sung-jae (Mystic Pop-up Bar) will be starring. The story explores the meaning of wealth and family, and which of those two can make people truly happy.
Yook Sung-jae is set to play the main character — a student who’s born into an impoverished family. By fate, he finds a “golden spoon” that gives him the chance to be reborn as his friend, a rich young man who’s had wealth’s advantages showered on him since birth.
Golden Spoon is co-written by Yoon Eun-kyung (The Prime Minister and I) and Kim Eun-hee, and directed by Song Hyun-wook (The King’s Affection). The drama is expected to air next summer.

Yook Sungjae is the type of person who chooses his drama roles carefully. Based on his previous dramas and most of it, he prefers a drama with moral lesson with less love lines. He will nail this ☺️ Fighting, Yook Sungjae

this drama don't have any cringe scnes like in high school drama. If you checked the manhwa version of this you can actually already tell that this drama isn't only the story of a high school student bcs rather talks about the family and childern in real life and gives us a real-life lesson that we can adopt in real life.
Like Mystic Pop-Up Bar (Sungjae last drama) this new drama will give like a family focused drama though this will still have a romance.
what's wrong with 26-27 high school student drama lol but I want him to see in different drama genres to of course but maybe Sungjae saw something interesting in this drama that's why he accepted this offer
Sungjae's role here is kinda challenging since his role is annoying however there's still a character development for MC. In this drama we will see how Sungjae portray a different role.

The original manhwa was set in elementary school which is why it didn't have a big love line. Besides kdrama adaptations of manhwa or webtoons always focus more on the romance and less everything else. He is too old for a high school student especially since he just got out of the military and is going to be quite buff.

Those were my exact same thoughts when I read that military veteran Jang Dong-yoon in 2018 at age 26 (just like Sunjae now) accepted a role in the high school drama JUST DANCE.
The result: Jang Dong-yoon received the award for “Special Short Drama Actor” for his work in JUST DANCE at the 2018 KBS Drama Awards.
I learned a lesson to trust these guys to know what they are doing when they accept a role.

Hwang in yeop also played as a high schooler in true beauty at the age of 30 and i see no problem 🙂 Plus this drama do not focuses on cliche high-school romance like other dramas. Sungjae must have agreed to do this bcs of the values and different character portrayal. Let’s give much love for his first post-military drama! 🙆🏻♀️

my goodness time flies, it felt like only the start of this year I was watching mystic weekly.
I'll likely tune into this one as I've enjoyed most of the webtoon adaptions that have been coming through lately - but I'll wait to see what kind of vibe the promos have when they eventually start cropping up :)

I was disappointed in how the storylines played out in THE PRIME MINISTER AND I- some stories ring true but that one simply did not. This makes me skeptical of this writer.

Sungjae is known for picking dramas with deep moral lesson on it. And as I read the manga, I am so excited to see how he will bring this to life, esp. the character development of the main lead. 😊

The guy really ditches his parents the first chance he gets… So much for filial piety.
The show has to be farcical and self-aware of its sheer absurdity for it to be any good. I have a soft spot for Sung-jae and hope the writing is good for his sake. I’ll check it out if the first few episodes seem good.

I am looking forward to seeing Sungjae in this drama. He is unlike many idols where he is more on the conservative side. He is careful in setting good examples which is why I think he chose this drama. He is a great actor, impersonator, singer and comedian. I am so excited to see actor Yook!

For the one who underestimate this drama like cringe-mainstream teen drama. This is definitely different! It's more focus on life lesson and Sungjae's character is kindly challenging. But I believe with Sungjae acting skill approved! Hope this drama will hit big!

I think this drama will be surprising because Yook Sungjae will put on a superb performance as main lead. I think many people will forget that he is originally a singer than as an actor. I am looking forward to seeing actor Yook Sungjae!

I have read the entire webtoon and it really doesn't have cliche story, drama scenes etc. it's a new genre for me

MYSTIC POP UP BAR (Netflix US) is my only Yook Sung-Jae drama and I loved it. It was one of those late in the year (2020) pick ups for me. I enjoyed YSj’s performance and all of a sudden he was gone fulfilling his military commitment.
I wish him luck with MBC’s GOLDEN SPOON and I will definitely check it out.

I have watched all of Yook Sungjae’s dramas. I didn’t know he is part of BTOB. He caught my eye in Goblin, my attention in Master in the House and my heart in Mystic Pop Up Bar. Really looking forward to how he will play as main lead in this webtoon. I have a feeling he will be amazing !
