Reincarnation may be in Shin Hye-sun’s dramaland future

A new fantasy romance drama is in the works called See You in My 19th Life and the lead role has been offered to Shin Hye-sun (Mr. Queen).

Based on a well-received and popular webtoon by the same title (written by Lee Hey), if she accepts, Shin Hye-sun will be playing the main character named Ban Ji-eum.

Unlike most people, she doesn’t forget her past lives whenever she cycles into a new reincarnation and is currently living her 19th life. Career-wise, this gives her a great advantage. Banking on the know-how and experience she’s built over 18 past lives, she excels in her work and has a successful career.

In her personal life, however, it gets complicated when she recognizes people she knew in previous reincarnations. When she runs into the love of her life from her 18th reincarnation cycle, she’s determined to (re)start a romance with him.

See You in My 19th Life is currently in the planning stages with PD Lee Na-jung (Love Alarm, Fight My Way) attached to direct.

Though Mr. Queen was a body/soul swap rather than a reincarnation story, Shin Hye-sun was incredible at embodying very different characters and I would love to see how she tackles a character who has lived so many lives. In the meantime, we can expect to see Shin Hye-sun on our screens on December 25. She will be hosting the first episode for SNL Korea’s new second season, which will be premiering on the Korean streaming service Coupang Play.

How can actresses/actors still look awesome in pictures when they are just staring at the camera without even smiling? I've tried this kinda look before but it turns out worse, lol

In this case it is because Shin Hye-sun really is very beautiful- and not in the same standardized way we see in too many actresses.

What... SNL (Saturday Night Live) Korea was now second season? I knew that first season was until 2017?! Am I right... nope, but it seems that original Saturday Night Live had most episodes and even the seasons until now since 1975 than the Korean adaptation (10 seasons so far). That means that SNL Korea got 10 seasons so far.
Here's an updated number/no. of Saturday Night Live seasons around the world as of December 18, 2021:
(note: * - ongoing)
*original (US): 47
*Korea: 10
Milano (Italy): 4 (November 11, 2006 - 2011)
Quebec (Canada): 1 (February 8, 2014 - March 21, 2015)

The luminous Shin Hye-sun always delivers a fabulous performance- and this sounds like a fun story. Because it is based upon a webtoon there is less worry that the writer will mess this up- the plot is already set. But even if the writer makes mistakes Shin Hye-sun will still makes this a good show like she did with a fundamentally flawed script in ANGEL'S LAST MISSION: LOVE. She is one of my very favorite actresses for a reason.

This has the same PD as FIGHT MY WAY, a show that I really enjoyed.

I will definitely be watching this one.

When I see the hopeful thought that something based on a webtoon/Manwha will follow the original plot, I'm never sure if the post is dripping sarcasm, or wishful thinking is behind it.

Four dramas easily sprung to mind as I read this post where things went way off the "set" plot rails, so to speak. Including one of them I had dropped before things went sideways--yet I could not escape hearing about what happened despite not reading the recaps. In fact, the uproar was so huge over the plot stray that they had to make a movie on top of the drama to appease the angry mob. (Hint--> 🪤)

I do know what you mean - this does happen. But the odds are considerably lower than with an 'original' story. And some alterations are a good thing - because what worked or was acceptable in a novel, manga, manwha or webtoon may not carry over to the screen. An example of being too faithful to the manwha came with the otherwise excellent BACKSTREET ROOKIE (which is still one of the most watched shows on iQIYI over a year and a half after it debuted) where completely unnecessary controversy came from RETAINING an annoying side character from the manwha whose elimination from the drama would have done absolutely no harm to the plot at all. It was the only flaw in an otherwise perfect show.

So my comment was definitely not sarcastic. Plus in this case the FL is played by Shin Hye-sun- who demonstrated the ability to turn a badly written show into a good one when she did ANGEL'S LAST MISSION- and even pulled a very good performance out of L while doing so. I am a real fan of Shin Hye-sun. While I am very frequently very skeptical of many upcoming shows (being skeptical goes with my profession after all) I have great faith in Shin Hye-sun. I really am looking forward to this drama.

I like this webtoon a lot, so I'm really excited! Shin Hye-sun will be an excellent Ban Ji-eum, she's so effortlessly cool anyway.

I am a fan of the webtoon and I support this casting! Shin Hye-sun can make me cry in any tragic sad scene, but at the same time as evidenced by Mr. Queen, she has spunk. Those two qualities fit with Ban Ji-eun's character.

So, of course, I am in.
