Jang Geun-seok vs. Heo Sung-tae in new poster for Bait

Coupang Play is gearing up for the release of their upcoming thriller Bait, and we now have some stills of our hero, played by Jang Geun-seok (Switch). Notably, it’s been five years since Jang Geun-seok was on the small screen, so even if we all did a bit of a double-take (Tae-kyung?!), it’s awfully nice to have him back. Jang Geun-seok will probably never be able to escape his now-classic role in the Hong sisters’ You’re Beautiful — although I’m sure he’d like to — but this scene is still one of my favorite things that K-dramas have offered to the world.

But back to the present: Jang Geun-seok is back in dramaland, but now he’s playing a lawyer turned detective named Gu Do-han. Indeed, our two new character stills seem to paint exactly that picture. Scruffy street clothes or dapper suit, Do-han seems to have his work cut out for him. He’s investigating the potential reappearance of conman and mastermind Noh Sang-chun, who’s played by Heo Sung-tae (Big Bet). Sang-chun is said to have died in a car accident after his financial crimes were exposed eight years ago, but now the police have reason to believe otherwise.

In addition to the stills of our hero — and our sincerely wild-looking baddie — we also have a rather epic poster that paints a strong picture of the somewhat self-satisfied villain, and our fiery (literally) detective. I particularly like that glimmer of the flames in his eyes. While dramaland seems to be giving us a lot of these sort of stories lately, I am actually super psyched to see Jang Geun-seok and Heo Sung-tae face off. I’ve admittedly not seen Jang Geun-seok in anything remotely serious, but I’m willing to give it to him, and Heo Sung-tae is just great in everything. Their energy onscreen is something to anticipate! Oh, and so is Lee Elijah (Delayed Justice) — she’s playing a reporter who is investigating the Sang-chun incident.

On the downside, Coupang Play has taken a page from Disney+ who has taken a page from Netflix who is determined to release their series in parts. So, Bait’s first six episodes will air this month, with the final half following later. Directed by Kim Hong-sun (Money Heist: Korea — Joint Economic Area, The Guest) with scripts penned by Kim Jin-wook, Part 1 of Bait will premiere on January 27.

Ahahahahaaa! I was expecting the link to be the very serious and amazingly acted scene where Taekyungie is coughing and choking in the bathroom from his shrimp allergy, and instead we were gifted with the wild boar scene!

Hahaha Tae-kyung still remains his most iconic role to date (which is why I got so pissed at his incredibly lame cameo in Hwayugi, he deserved better I tell you! Justice for Jang Geun-seok!)

But yeah it still baffles me that he is now in his mid 30s, I have yet to watch Switch but I’m hoping Bait is the redemption he deserves (I watched a lot of his stinkers Marry Me Mary, Bel Ami etc)
