Jo Seung-woo offers his services as Divorce Attorney Shin

JTBC has been picking up the pace on promos for Divorce Attorney Shin (previously Sacred Divorce), releasing a new poster and video teaser of our story’s hero Jo Seung-woo (Sisyphus) – along with his adorkable two friends: Kim Sung-kyun (Grid) and Jung Moon-sung (The Good Detective 2).

Since middle school and now into their forties, the three have supported each other through all the good and bad. This includes when Shin Sung-han (Jo Seung-woo) gave up classical piano and turned to law instead. And now Jang Hyung-geun (Kim Sung-kyun) handles administration for Shin’s firm, while Renaissance man Jo Jung-shik (Jung Moon-sung) has been dabbling in different trades.

The new teaser begins with our hero hesitantly introducing himself as, “Attorney Shin Sung-han, a representative of the legal profession and a sexy… guy? Sexy man?” He certainly makes an impression with his fancy suit-up and piano performances, while Hyung-geun explains that Sung-han has the blood of an artist. But the sequence also treats us to Sung-han’s more humble moments, and the appearing text screen questions, “Artist Shin Sung-han?” The answer soon follows, confirming that he’s, “Divorce Attorney, Shin Sung-han!”

We then jump to a man asking, “There must be many women who like you, right? [Are you] still single?” Sung-han replies, annoyed, that he’ll handle his own affairs. The second nosy question, though, is why Sung-han would even bother switching to this career and we watch a sequence of domestic violence before moving to the final text screen: “Do you need a divorce?”

Sung-han’s next divorce case is for radio DJ Han Hye-jin (Let’s Hold Hands and Watch the Sunset). He confidently reassures her saying, “Don’t you know the saying that all will be well, when all is well at home? We’re taking this divorce to trial now, not arbitration. Don’t worry, we’re going to win.” The teaser then closes as our hero approaches the court house and says, “Let’s go.”

Directed by PD Lee Jae-hoon (Run-On, Chief Kim) with scripts by Yoo Young-ah (Thirty-Nine, Boyfriend), JTBC’s Divorce Attorney Shin is slated to premiere next month on March 4.

Is "affairs" really the right word?

"Affairs" works here. The second definition (at least in US dictionaries) refers to infidelity. The first definition is basically "situations" or "business matters."

I did mean it as "personal matters," like @kdramapedia explained. But this being K-drama land, it makes sense that a "romantic affair" might pop into people's heads first, lol. 😅

The literal translation of what Sung-han said is "I'll do it on my own [without supervision]" - implying that the other man shouldn't concern himself with it.

Lol. I'll bet there'll be some scandals/cheating involved in some divorce cases.

My excitement for this piece aside, I loved Sacred Divorce more.

This show may as well be called "Eye Candy for Single Young Ahjummas Because Who Cares About This Plot." Ahem.

Why so many divorce and legal dramas? I'm still looking for a new drama with a good story without crazies, legal crap, time traveling, body snatching, evil family members, ludicrous makjang, reincarnation, female subjugation, first love obsession, stalking, revenge, divorce, gratuitous violence, farcical anecdotes, and love twists. Is that too much to ask?!

So you're saying a show about insurance claims adjusters and auto repair shops would be your catnip? 😂

I think I'd miss love twists, depending on what they were, and a spot of low-key revenge can be satisfying every now and then, but the rest of your list could step in front of a ToD and I wouldn't feel any loss.

About as much as a show about getting a root canal or cataloging tax paperwork. 😂

I could concede on love twists if done well, which hasn't been the trend in recent dramas. I'm so done with low-key revenge. If it's not done artfully with tragicomic grandeur and true genius worthy of Broadway, then what's the point.

MBC is working on a drama about an accounting firm.......

At least it's not another law firm, but that setting could also be a snoozer for a show. Who knows, though, perhaps I'll be proven wrong.

If DIVORCE ATTORNEY SHIN becomes available on a legal stream in the US Jung Moon-sung may be the hook that draws me in. I did not recognize him in the first pic up there sitting on the couch in the purple sweater. JMS in a good guy role would probably do it.

Are we seeing these divorce lawyer dramas because the divorce rate went up during COVID lockdown?
