The people’s hero Woo Do-hwan is MBC’s Joseon Lawyer

A new video teaser and beautifully blue poster has come out for MBC’s Joseon Lawyer, featuring our title’s hero Woo Do-hwan (The King: Eternal Monarch) at the front and center.

At the onset of our story, Kang Han-soo (Woo Do-hwan) begins his journey with the purpose of revenge. But on his path to justice, his eyes become opened to the people in need around him. He learns how to be a true hero by using his skill set to make a difference in the world.

The new teaser begins with Han-soo arriving in the big city of Hanyang, where he’s asked what he will do now. Han-soo replies that he’ll do what he’s always done and as we watch trouble unfold in the streets, a man declares in voiceover that you should win using the law. In the sequence, we read that: “The law is not power… it belongs to the people.”

We then cut to Han-soo walking through a cheering crowd and Bona (Twenty Five Twenty One) comes to greet him with a smile. Han-soo is appalled, though, when she does a cute spin to show off her disguise, and a sullen Cha Hak-yeon (Tomorrow) watches our pair from a distance.

At the palace, we get a quick glimpse of our power-walking ministers Chun Ho-jin (My Liberation Notes) and Choi Moo-sung (Insider), while the continuing text screens introduce Han-soo as: “The man who will open his ears to the people’s resentment.”

Our hero then announces, “I am lawyer Kang Han-soo,” and the teaser comes to a close as he reassures his client to not be discouraged, advising that you need spirit to fight a lawsuit.

Co-directed by PD Kim Seung-ho (Twenty Five Twenty One) and PD Lee Han-joon (The Golden Spoon) with scripts by Choi Jin-young (Seven Day Queen), MBC’s fictional sageuk Joseon Lawyer will be taking over the weekend slot starting March 31.

Don’t know what the show’s trying to imply, but Woo Do-hwan’s always been the people’s hero to me. How could he not be, just look at that face. That’s an international treasure all by itself.

We are glorifying his looks (including me) and I feel guilty about it but no one is perfect!:)

We can allow a teensy bit of objectification if we also appreciate his… talent.

So he LIVES on that boat? Well, that's one way to portray a free-spirited hero...
*sigh* Not the love triangle again! I can live with Hakyeon's character not getting the girl, but I don't want him to exist in this story just for the sake of love rivalry. Give my man something else to do other than staring at OTP sadly!

😂 no sageuk is complete though without a scheming evil state councillor and second love interest who stares at the leads pitifully from afar (alexa play Yul's theme song from Alchemy of Souls)

I know, but not only I find it VERY cheap and lazy way of making FL more impressive in the eyes of viewers by giving her multiple passionate suitors, it's also super disrespectful to SML characters in general to treat them like love triangle levers and nothing more. This teaser in particular is already doing SML some disservice with his only scene being dedicated not to his own characterization, but to him pining for FL. And the show hasn't even started yet! They'd better fix this asap or else...

I don't mind scheming ministers tho. Like at all. They can be pretty entertaining if done right. What's the court life without conspiracies and power plays anyway? Those are two incomparable things, because OTPs - even in sageuks - can exist just fine without any third-wheels.

that's a really good point - honestly RIP the amount of good potential many SML characters could've had, and instead they were reduced to empty vessels 😭 let's hope this one might be different!!

I still vividly remember era where ALL sageuk SMLs ended up in this unfortunate state and very rarely survived till end credits as result. Thanks heavens things kinda changed now... but I wouldn't mind a faster progression while at it.

This one is gonna stress the hell out of me, I'm already feeling it.

@gikata Its common knowledge that in the Joseon era every second man was involved in a futile love triangle!

And every first one was just waiting for his turn, let's be real here!

I don't know why they just can't have 2 couples. Always the love triangle! There's got to be more than 1 impressive woman in a big city like Hanyang.

(I guess we said the same about coffee shops in Seoul...and still...)

Love triangles are there to make FL appear more desirable and by extension give female viewers this sweet fantasy experience of being the center of reverse harem full of hot men. Which is also why FLs are often suffering from weak characterization - all for self-insert purposes. Notice how love triangles of 2 women and 1 man are rarity, and if rivaling SFL does show up, she's usually a real piece of work with zero chances to win ML at all. Thankfully this trope is slowly dying out - I guess SK now prefers their crazy bitchy ladies to shine in makjangs instead of being wasted as plot devices in romcoms - but classic MFM love triangle still stands strong to this day. Hell, another upcoming romance sageuk has 3 (!) dudes courting FL! You can guess the target audience of such story by mile)))

I would feel so stressed being in the middle of a love triangle. I'm not a super-decisive person, and I'm a bit of a people pleaser. And feel easily indebted.

Yes, I would like to be surrounded by a harem of hot men, but I wouldn't want more than one of them catching feelings for me.

As much as Kim Eun-sook gets a bad rap for her romances, I really love how she's done some big dramas with two romantic pairings. MOAR COUPLES! MOAR women to vicariously live through.

I'm getting REBEL: THIEF WHO STOLE THE PEOPLE vibes, and CHIEF KIM vibes. How is that possible. All wrapped up in a gorgeous Woo Do-hwan blue outfit. Never mind the history or lack of thereof. I'm in.

Chief Kim vibes is always a good thing as far as I’m concerned. If they can have can that *and* Woo Do-hwan in gorgeous hanboks, it will be a top ten drama for me. I’m not even joking.

It was a pretty cute tie-in/teaser from Poong 2 for Joseon Lawyer with Woo Do Hwan’s cameo in the final episode saying he was going to become a lawyer. It was nice to see him with Kim Min Jae, 5 years after starting together in Tempted/The Great Seducer.
